Grail: The Ultimate Haze Hybrid

Cambodian keeps coming up. Dr Purpur may be steering us in the right direction. I could believe that serious lovers of cannabis have kept stains pure in the jungle.
Aren't some of you due for a holiday? For those of you with women to please, that's where "Angkor Wat" is. Spiritual, cultural, romantic and maybe that's where the Grail Mother is.
What are you waiting for. You know you could die at any moment!
N.

Neville I was there last year. Saw some wild Cannabis on the side of the roads. Maybe there was your half grail :D

I have in my fridge Hashberry x Neville Haze (plus some more pollen on the freezer) will wonder what would come out.

Anyway there was a guy on ICMAG called HappyHi that said he work FOR the Haze brothers in california. He said he got seeds to plant them ...... another possiblity there?

Hey Nevil, I love your work, I've got no job, and I've got a ton of frequent flyer points... Can you suggest where I should start in Cambodia? ;)

This is the most exciting place in the online community right now; absolutely thrilling.

I like your style:D

The cat piss smell associated with Haze is the result of inbreeding to the Haze. Inbreeding to siblings or half siblings, is less damaging than inbreeding to the same Haze plant.
NL5 was somewhat neutral in smell and when crossed with the Haze, it expressed the various genotypes behind the Haze very well. I have grown large numbers of NL5HzA and NL5HzC plants from seed. Considering that the HzA male was dead, I could only use it's daughters to put back to HzC.

This single inbreeding to the 1969 haze males exponentially increased the amount of cat piss types in the progeny, but still allowed a useful percentage of truly superior plants to shine through.
The average age of the NH grand parents is about 40. I don't believe that this can be said about anybody else's lines. They are more inbred, hence the cat piss.
I have a dream that a real Haze brother will contact me and tell me that he still has well preserved seeds from the 60's. Failing that, the '97 NH seeds offer the best hope for future hybrids.

Nevil, I heard before that the catpiss smell in haze comes from the columbian side...any truth to that?

I was wondering where that came from too. I really dont care for that smell or flavor. I have never tasted it in any Columbian before, gold, red or otherwise.Whatever it came from, I want to steer clear

A lot of Ganja in Cambodia is crap

I was 2009 three weeks in Phnom Pen and tried often Ganja what people offered.
With one exception it was all weak, seedy and damp crap. I expected much better quality.
But most young tourists were happy with this stuff.
I remember only one times really good quality but unfortunately without seeds.
I believe with endurance and luck you can find inferior genetics.
Thats my experience. :)

Hazy Days

I check this message board once in a while for fun and still can't believe the battles raging over the origins of the Original Haze or Purple Haze. Time to smoke the peace pipe, boys, and remember there is no such thing as the truth, only the truth as you see it. Why don't you all get together in a room and bring the best Haze from your stashes and if they're really good, it should gradually come to you that great herb is not about the past or future, but the present. Remember "Be Here Now!" How about "Be High Now!"

Just to add to the historical debate, we had a bunch of seeds from the various Haze varieties in Santa Cruz in the mid Seventies. We gave some away and there was always a stray seed or two in some of the buds, so who knows where they ended up? Share the wealth, spread the wealth.

Lastly, according to memory, we three brothers from the east coast who migrated to Santa Cruz were the only ones to call ourselves the Haze Brothers. Never once heard the original two growers refer to themselves that way, maybe because they weren't biological brothers for starters. Either way, it's all in the rear view mirror, now. Smoke on the Water.

One more thing. Just found an old cassette tape of the band The Original Haze, which included Jerry Miller of the Moby Grape. That ring any bells?

Later!

some i think thats an understatement lol,im sure much of the stock landed in nyc since you were in very close proximity ,soo im sure a stray seed or 2 came from it this is wat i believe still survives nyc today

thankyou for your honesty ,while it was long ago an i understand those flames died out i myself still burn to know it all and since SAMS ask about your post and has responded soo currently its of topic as he said And I am the first to admit that the two real Haze Bros "the growers" did not call them selves Haze Bros until long after the High Times article came outwhich is not true and wat it means along wit alot of other things said we all were mislead ,soo i kindly replied to which i hav gotten no response

the post is below ,it comes from my thread question for sam the skunkman on the original haze at ic if you like to hav a look

Don't know who Hooteroll is, except I don't think they post here on IC.
I am glad you three were the Haze Brothers, and you are just smokers, and I am sure you did get "R" toasted for the High Times article. And I am the first to admit that the two real Haze Bros "the growers" did not call them selves Haze Bros until long after the High Times article came out, so what does that mean?
First of all if you were just a Haze smoker and seller when was the first year you saw and smoked the Original Haze? I saw a lot, all of each seasons grows, and had my choice if I wanted it, but I did not sell herb, I did have a few friends that only sold Original Haze from the two Haze growers and they did move a lot, a real lot, Lb's or more every week, if it was available. If you were smoking Thai back east before you saw the Original Haze then it was a bit later then the Original Haze was first available.
The $250 an ounce price was I bet from R.L. around 1976-1977 that was when prices were the highest due to low stock to sell. The Oz's were in antique redwood fruit boxes with a poster cut up and stuck to the outside of the box and two 1 OZ stickers sealing the box sides shut. I remember Root Beer very well it was around for maybe 10 years before it just disappeared from the Haze genepool, like most of the Purple Haze genes. I helped save the Original Haze from extinction, with the blessing of R.L. and the other Haze Brother, the 2 Original Haze growers. We were next door neighbors, friends, and more. Glad you enjoyed the Original Haze, shame we did not make clones back then....
But the best Original Haze plants were before I saw clones a few years later.
PS I do have an Original Haze poster signed by R.L. he gave it to me in 1976, we, the three of us had been growing and smoking Original Haze for years already.

for the record

Hey Wait a minute BigHerb, I asked First (although You were more polite) and Im very close to Santa Cruz.

well for the record i wasnt asking hooteroll for seeds

also for the record i have never asked anyone for seeds nor will i ever its not my style ,but i will say i have met many generous folks during my time on the net

my intention of the question was in hopes if hooteroll did hav any seed stock he might be kind enough to gift them to neville/shanti for the new grail creation,he is the third option i know of OHAZE stock

Hi mate, where do you want me to send those seeds you asked for?;)

I think bigherb was asking for seeds for the common cause of the Grail.

If they are nice seeds I could get some as well bushweed

Ive been procrastinating about making a couple phone calls to some of my buddies in Santa Cruz. Ones 55, and the other is 60.
I always took the stories I read on IC mag at face value, and now I see there is conflicting info.
Some older guy in the area is gonna have info

Guys and Gals (and why not more Gals in these forums?);

This is one of (if not the) most informative threads I've ever read. Over 10 years ago (when I was new to all this) I literally spent a total of hundreds of hours on the web (while smoking of course) trying to track down what the pedigree of Haze was (Sam's vs Neville's vs Tom's etc. etc.) and all I could about each of them. And here it all is in one thread.
There is one thing we cannot forget in all this talk:-

If we truly want a wholly "Holy Grail" then it HAS to include ease of growth.

Lets face it:- With the stretch and flowering times that Haze presently has it doesn't matter how good a new hybrid is. Even if it goes down your throat like Stella Artois and blows your mind like Semtex with the growing characteristics Haze currently has it will never be grown by 99.999999% of the growers out there. It's like Ferrari producing a 300 miles-per-hour car. It might exist but I'll never drive one.

My Holy Grail would be this:- smokes like a pure Haze (it doesn't have to be mind f**k quality just Premier League) but the average grower with an average grow room could master it with the same ease as skunk.
This in my view is impossible.
Nevil, prove me wrong.
Cheers
Dr. LD
