Grail: The Ultimate Haze Hybrid

outstanding photos! and some of them look like they will also have an excellent yield. the very few times i have been able to observe the haze garden of an old college buddy it seemed that the most potent of the lot had the poorest yield. alas, always the case ime.

and then looking at some of your garden statistics i see planting in april and harvest in december (and should've waited longer) which is a growing season i can only dream about. this reminds me of a discussion of haze at another site where it was stated that most outdoor haze gardens in the usa are harvested at a time dictated by the weather but the writer claimed that true haze genes take a minimum of one year, start to finish, and that he had seen varieties that went far longer than that. almost seems like haze is an anomaly in the mj world and sort of outside of the natural order of things? and again, beautiful garden that shows a dedication to this particular strain and its hybs. peace-biteme

Landrace Thai - 20+ weeks flower time.

FFOF soil, no nutes. They have been fed only once, are still in 1.5 gallon containers, and show no sign of nutrient deficiency. These are now nearly 10 weeks into flower, and are just starting to show flower formation. The first 7 weeks were 11.5/12.5 light cycle, now reduced to 11/13.

Starting from this, as a reference, plants were 2.5 ft. tall at start of flower.

They are now 8 ft. plus and still stretching. (That's an 8'6" ceiling btw)

Pardon the few burned leafs, they got a bit close to the bulb. You can see some of the males flowers in there, also got a bit too close to the light.

Looks like it's going to be a Thai filled Christmas. :)

What I'm asking for is magic/impossible etc, I fully admit that (gene splicing?). But it's a nice dream. A Neville's haze experience from a skunk type of plant? (Although that is mind f**k I'm asking for rather than just premier league).

It's just that I feel that in a thread with the title "Ultimate Haze Hybrid" it shouldn't be just about the high. Ultimate means ultimate in every way.

Anyway (He says after looking in his fridge after consuming half a bottle of Poteen [moonshine to Americans]). The seeds I have (in order I'm going to grow them) are :- Cinderella99, Jack Flash and MNS Mango Haze.

It's over 10 years since I grew (due to my housing situation). I'm sick of the commercial skunk. In 6 weeks I'll be able to start again. Yippee.

I've a feeling the Mango Haze will definitely kick me into touch. But I need to refresh my growing skills first with some "kindergarten" sativas.

As regards a parent for an ultimate haze hybrid? How about Sams Original Haze/skunk? What's that in the Sat/Ind ratio for the progeny? Higher than N. Haze and the Haze genetics will be different.

Another off the wall option (and laugh at me, I deserve it, I really do) is an auto flowering Haze. Haze C male crossed to a potent auto flowering female? Could be interesting.
Cheers
Dr. LD

Im currently flowering 3 ladies of Sam's Haze x Skunk, and out of 7 plants grown, I can tell you that there is very little Indica in this cross. Rightly so as Skunk #1 is mostly Sativa. 6 of my plants look/looked like lanky long flowering sativas. The remaining one looked nearly identical to the rest except it was a bit more compact.

I had never grown anything Haze before, and if you asked me if I was growing a Haze hybrid, or a pure haze, Id went with pure haze. Thats how dominant Haze is in the cross.

Ive never grown Skunk either, but from the looks of the 3 ladies Ive flowered, and 3 male clones, the Skunk side seems to show itself during flowering in bud formation, and speed of flowering.

Ive got one lady that has buds nearly twice as large as its next sister even though they both started forming buds at 21 days into 12/12. I expect she'll be done first(all 3 ladies at day 89 of 12/12). Then there is the Hazy lady. She took 28 days to flower, and her buds are all small and wispy. Ill be taking her to 120-130 days I expect. The other two will come down somewhere between day 90-100.

As for the males, all 3 of them showed different expressions just like the females.

I had one fast flowering male who had lots of pollen sacks clustered tighter together than the other two. Skunk pheno I assume, but plant otherwise looks just like a lanky Sativa.

Then there was the in-betweener. He took another week to drop pollen, and didnt have the same dense and large amount of pollen sacks as the Skunkier pheno.

And lastly was the Hazy male. He took about a month to drop pollen, and actually started dropping pollen at the time I culled the Skunk pheno. Thats how slow this guy was. Lots of small little pollen sacks, and I didn't get alot of pollen from him. He also stretched more compared to the other two. Just like the Hazy lady pheno.

I used pollen from him, and impregnated my Hazy lady, so that I can explore the hazier side of this cross in the future.

Im sure there are some Skunk dominant phenos that are clearly obvious before flowering, but I haven't found it yet.

I hope to flower about 40 f2's out in the future. Maybe then, Ill get a really good idea of how this cross expresses itself.

Hazy Memory

As Sam correctly points out:

If you were smoking Thai back east before you saw the Original Haze then it was a bit later then the Original Haze was first available.

My memory failed me. First Thai Stick we saw was in 1973 in Santa Cruz, lime green and so strong and electric we thought we were tripping (slightly). Over the years, as the popularity and demand grew, there seemed to be more dark green and gold sticks.

Im in the Big valley east of Santa Cruz. I think it was 1973 when the Thai started coming in. It was real good! it was like spice. I think the Columbian Red hit in 1974. It was comming in thru SanFrancisco bay, I guess. It was cheap , but real good.$650 a pound, gooey strong, and earthy. There was also Hawaiian coming from the Islands around 1976. I had Kona, and Maui.
I went to Maui in 1977 to live for awhile to chase Maui bud.

Question

Hello! Nevil, and all... Are the Columbian Sativas the only Sativas that have the pissy smell? as to compare to a Panama Sativa? and will this be another Multi Breed Sativa? How many areas of South America contain the cat piss. I like the sound of Panama mixed with Thai's, Cambodia x NH. resinbud,;)

Hi Snow :)
Those are some sativa looking plants without question, thanks for sharing. Many years ago, I can actually remember Dutchgrowns plight with law enforcement. Surely unfortunate, however I was always slightly amused she referred to herself as a breeder by crossing Nevilles Haze to Super Silver Haze. I could easily do something very similar, with lines gifted to me by respected sources in the industry as well. However it would take some time on the lines, before I would call myself a breeder!

These days I notice Gypsy takes the oppurtunity to make Dutchgrown the "Breeder of the Year" etc. at Icmag to help bolster her seed sales. I cant say that I would care to grow any of her lines personally, but there may be others who feel other wise.

I mentioned the info because Nevil supposedly gifted a pack of his original Nevilles Haze to Dutch Grown, I just was wondering if this were true. This pack of Senegel Haze was from the 1st production as far as I can tell. I believe she was growing Nevilles Haze x Nevilles Haze and Nevilles Haze x SSH. Either way its a very interesting strain with high potential, though landraces or old farmed lines would be the way to go.

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

You write with the eloquence of a true connoisseur Snowbud. They all sound like interesting candidates for the N.H. F1 male.
I am pleased that you are going us on the Grail Quest.
N.

So Nevil may I ask you a question? What type of high or effect are you looking for to add to the male Haze A for the Grail strain.

I personally think a recombination of different Nepalese, Highland Thai and Mexican would be good sources to establish a good female for your haze quest.

Though for super tripping sativas Africa has many gems left uncovered.

A combination of BOEL Sri Lanken, Colombian and Highland Lao could be another source.

I'll post some Thai hybrids that I have going.

Hi Dogless
Got the photo's. It looks similar to the plants that Snowball posted. Your description sounds somewhat similar too
it is extremly psychoactive with an angel dust cartoonish type high.
The high from the Senegel Haze is electric and can cause heart palpitations and sweating, very visual and intense high with no ceiling and extremely high in THC.
The thing about Haze is that it needs to be crossed with something that will ground you.
The NL5 and AfgT(maple leaf) did a good job in that respect.
Inbreeding Nevil's Hazes will also push things in the same direction as the above two quotes. It's a bit like listening to music without the base.

Of course if it is unrelated to NH it will benefit from being crossed to the F1.
We must leave no stone unturned.
I'll PM you.
N.

Black Maui

This is a strain I made using a 76 Maui Wowie clone from Eddy Lepp. I dusted the Maui Wowie with some Black Forrest pollen from the Rev. The Black Forrest is Vietnam Black x Hawaiian Cherry bomb (Maui Wowie x Cherry AK47).

I'll post only a few sativas here and more in the outdoor thread as not to bog this one down with a myriad of sativas, not pertaining directly to this Haze thread.

Some Thai hybrids

Nevil,

Here are some Thai hybrids not the landrace farmed stuff I spoke to you about. These are interesting and I will post more as the buds fill.
