Haze A or Haze C in Afghan Haze crosses ?

Ortega

May we please get a clearer picture which plants are combined to form your version of Ortega, Shanti?

My plan is to take a line of “89 NL5” (presumably NL5 x NL2) that were worked by Melvanetics to F5 and combine this with an Ortega male to stockpile NL genetics for preservation and future R&D.

I’ve selected the Ortega as the potential sire line based on my assumption that the Y chromosome traces back to NL1.

I know Nevil combined an Ortega MLI female with an NL1 male in the past, and I have presumed this to have been combined with your 2008 NL5 mother selection to create the current Ortega stock. Can you comment on how warm I am in my hypothesis?

ORTEGA = ‘08 NL5 x Ortega15/NL1

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: The second potential mother candidate will be a selection from Coastal Seed’s “UFO” which is the 1979 Romulan cut crossed to an NL1 stud. The results of such a schedule would combine NL1 sire lines over the unrelated Afghani lines (Maple Leaf Indica and Romulan).

I am using the old seed from 1987 of Nev, not a big selection came up but was a quality strain and full of excellent stable phenotypes. It is not an F1 seed but an inbreed line and after the selection work parts of it are being used in other hybrids and research work.

It tends to flower bwteen 6-8 weeks at 12/12, and enjoys a strong feeding regime. Unlike the large colas of flower clusters it produces flowers up the stem of medium size but density is on its side.

More in the medicinal range of plants for those with muscular tension disorders and for those who need to stimulate appetite and sleep...as far as i am concerned. But we can add to it everybody who does a thread to get a better over view....h

I did make a NL1 X Ortega. Maybe my labelling was confusing.
I didn't make any of the current offerings but most contain my work.

I was thinking about the comment that Kali Mist was an A5 x SSH cross.

if thats what interests you, maybe you should look into the Doors.
i believe the doors is C5 x AC.
i suspect that the Skunk Haze C male used in the AC would be the same as what is used for Mango haze and SSH.
So AC is like a SSH but with the A in it, not doubled up on C yet.
then crossed to the C5 to get the C linebred.
sort of the same genes, different order, slightly less Haze A, but the benefit of shantis selection of the Haze A in the male side, and a known winner on the female side.
Does shanti offer any AC seed for sale, or just in the rock and roll hybrids?
i think i just talked myself into wanting some.

I dunno if the parents of the AC are still alive .
From what I understand it was an old batch of seeds from 1987 , then worked a few gens to find the male AC .

I read a quote from Nevil re the Father of SSH .
He said it was a runty plant but it stood out for resin production and smell .

re % this % that . Ever heard of dominant and recessive genes ?
Cross the parent and you may never see the trait again ...

did he ever say that the skunk haze male was an F-1?

considering SSH and Mango Haze are still for sale, i could only assume that shanti does have a skunk haze male.
if this is the same male as used in AC, i dont know.

but if he has the skunk haze, i would think he would keep the A52, and could always make more AC seed.

maybe you are confusing his selection of the new A5, which obviously came from old seeds?

dominance and recessiveness may have very little to do with certain crosses that are all comprised of the same genes. if they are dominant, they will still be dominant vs. the other genes in the mix, no matter if they are introduced at the first step, second, third...

I dont believe in absolute dominance.
there is always a chance, small %, of getting a rare combination.

you know, im not really sure if we ever got a straight answer on that one either.
if you go to the doors forum you will find a thread about lineage.
it seems to be a NL5 x Haze C mother used, im not sure if its C5#122, C5, or what. maybe a new NL5 x Haze C.

SK / Hz C F4 if I can recall .
That`d where peoples imaginations got carried away about F5 parents of SSH and MHz .

Wrong if the mothers are F1 cuttings .

yeah, i know ive read people say its an F-4 SkunkHazeC, but i dont think that has been verified by anyone whose word on the matter would carry any weight.

It would be nice to know whether nevil or shanti made the seed that the AC came out of.
shanti said in one place that it was from an old bag of nevils, but also added something about breeding a few generations.

old seed of nevs could mean the A5 seed, which we do know he went through some to select the NL5 x Haze A#2, and crossed it to a male he already had (maybe,SH, father of mango and SSH?)

but in another way it could mean nevil made the cross and shanti bred them together for a few generations before he selected his AC male from it.

im guessing its the first scenario, based on the thought that if shanti currently holds NL5 x Haze A#2, he just selected it a few years ago, and he made the cross A52xSkHzC.

otherwise, this A52 could be a plant nevil had, made some seeds with, and shanti went searching through those seeds.
specifics...a few words can make all the difference in clarity and meaning.

re Haze A and C
The best haze hybrids that I bred came from the First Haze female I grew. It was bred to a 75% NL1 ruderalis male. I was so impressed that my first Haze release was NL1xHzC, from a select NL1 cut. It wasn't as good as it's predecessor.
Excluding FH female, the two males A+C were genetically the best (progeny testing). If any of the other females had better progeny than the males, I would have used them, but they didn't. Because of Hazes being slow to flower, it was more efficient to use the males, but this was not my motivation. I wish that I had kept FH, but such is life.

im dying to know what haze parent was used in your first haze hybrid released at the seed bank the hazeXnl1?

HzC

Female Hazes were not used to produce commercial quantities of seed.

Seems that this person got some HzCxHzC which as you explained is pure Haze , HzC squared.
The "200" number next to the strain name , refers to number of seeds recieved.

But I have not seen any pure Hz offering in old catalogs from you. Tho I haven't seen all year's old catalogs.
By the way there seems to be a HZC2 x 5AC1 offerering in that list , do you remember how this crossing worked out?

Haze cont ...

I don't know if F1 5Hz can be made any more. I doubt it, but a number of MNS strains are made with the best daughters. These too will one day die and these seeds will be the stuff of legends. Haven't you got any saved in your fridge for the future? Maybe you are counting on the era of prohibition ending before more gets lost in busts and calamities. Good luck with that!

P.S. Any one got any well stored NL5Hz F1s from the '80s or early '90s? They might be worth a bit of money!

G `day K

There was a small crew who helped Nevil do his Haze grows .
After the harvest clones were kept by the crew . Nevil disappeared didn`t return for a long period .

The crew kept the cuts and would not share them . One day Nevil returned and wanted his cuttings . Collected them and left without even so much as a thank you ...

The crew kept the cuts for 20 + years growing them for sale at selected Coffe shops and for personal use .

In more recent times the crew had a falling out and now the surviving 30 year old cuts are being shared .
