Northern lights#1 vs. northern lights #5

So basically a sativa spice x devil and you might have similarities to the nl5. Greg did your Hawaiian sativa display one main cola type growth like the spice description?

Devil is a red Skunk ?
Afghani x SK . Shanti ??

Skunk has Colombian / Mexican / Afghani in its lineage . If the Devil parents are AF / SK then you are already comparing apples and oranges .

Spice is Sat / Indie cross . Again different lineage .

Before the mating and selection even starts .

I have no doubt Spice x Devil could produce some damn fine plants .But it aint gonna get you back to a Northern Lights proto type .

Well it's afghan x Afghan/skunk so that's about as close to Afghan as we get with probably slightly better structure. And I said a sativa Dom spice, since I don't know anyone who offers a pure Hawaiian sativa these days do you? I am not trying to recreate nl5 I'm suggesting it could produce bud with similarities given the proper selection. So before the assumptions and miscommunication begin... let's help each other answer questions instead of trying to prove them wrong.

Hi Weezy .

I took into account what you said . And I think your heading down a rabbit hole .
Nice plants but def not NL .

Take into account the different regions of Afghanistan and the many genotypes . Then The selections done by the keepers of the strain . Add in the other Colombian , Mexican and Afghani genetics and a Sat / Indy hybrid . [ the Spice pheno may be Sat but its geno type is hybrid ] .

Like I said you could produce nice plants but likening them to NL#5 is a long cast .

Commercial Hawaiian Sativa seed I don`t know where to access . Home made Hawaiian Sativa IBL I do know where to find .

I have the Pez as S1s they look mighty close to old school NL but I`m no expert . That`s why I`m picking Greg and Panta`s brains .

Maybe NL / SK would be a better start point ?
It has as a parent the line you are looking to select for ?

why even bring the skunk into the mix?
maybe Spice x Ortega?
there are other "pure" afghani's out there, isn't g13 supposed to be one?

It is what it is guys. We are all going to have our own opinions. I guess no one would really know except for the original breeder if he had experience with the lines in question. So I guess if we want nl we just grow ortega. Trying to recreate something can become painful. In the end I guess this story proves one thing time and again Afghan/indicas x sativas produce killer hybrids

Ps all g13 plants are hybrids ibl

G13 x skunk ibl and G13 x widow ill if you read Shanti description he says he crossed the G13 with hybrids before it lost it vigour for life to preserve the genetics.

hybrids of what?

There is no pure g13 unless you believe DR. Greenthumb and its nothing more then a feminized if he somehow managed to get the original cut. Either way your not getting pure g13 in seed form unless selected for several generations knowing the original cut and then you will lose the hybrid vigor which helped make it special to begin with.

Another Rabbit hole .
You won`t find NL there either .
Thats like buying a Burmese Cat and saying check out my Siamese ! ??

There is NL / SK on the catalogue . Wouldn`t you start with some thing that is a least directly related ?

I grew Ortega . Its not NL ...

G13 Hz is an IBL the G13 SK and the G13 Widow are Back crosses .

@ Hairy

Why bring up Green Thumbs G13 ? The guy is trying to make a NL type from MNS gears ??
A different region valley or hillside in Afghanistan will have have different genotypes . Just because it comes from Afghanistan doesn`t mean its the same line . That`s being pretty niave don`t you think . Strains are legends because they were distinctive . Not just another plant from the same region .

and not to get too sidetracked with g13 debate, but I do believe the g13 he offers is pretty close to legit. if its pure g13, then it is pure afghani, just ibl or selfed to be specific. if its g13 x hashplant then its may still all be pure afghani, just a hybrid of those different ones. at least its not outcrossed to skunk or widow or haze or anything like that.
not that any of those are bad, just may not be what you want to introduce to the mix.

Again here you go Mary! It's good to know that you think shanti is a liar. I didn't say ortega was nl the breeder of the genetics at this seed bank says it's nl5 x nl1 so if that's not where to look for nl idk where is. Shanti has also said the g13 lines offered here are ibl so again if you just want to try and prove people wrong please refrain from commenting on my posts. Thanks

As HK said, not to veer off topic too much but I thought MNS G13 lines were made with a G13/Sk line that was inbred selecting to the G13. Not sure about G13/Hz.

MNS g13 lines as far as I know are:

G13 x skunk ibl selected for g13 traits crossed to either widow or skunk,
or the g13 x haze is just ibl, from g13 x haze seeds nevil made. I do not know if haze C is the father of g13 x haze, of if its a g13 haze ibl sibling, or a linebred male of some sort. I tried to ask shanti directly and did not get a straightforward answer. was told "does it really matter?" basically.

I didn't find nl (#5) in Ortega. I'm gonna sort through f2,3,etc. "it should be there " is also my philosophy as well. That's the beauty of mns gear it has potential, the strains provenance are impeccable. That's why most of of are here. All research leads here.

Hi Weezy

Your grasping .
If you want to make the inference I`m calling people liars . You are deluded .

I am telling the truth as I know it . The description may well say NL5 x NL1 . But like Panta said . I didn`t find it .
Before I ordered Ortega seed I did due diligence [Ortega book of infos ? included] .I then grew it for 2 runs . So I know what I`m talkin about .

The talk about Ortega got me interested to pop some more and see what else was in the straw . Unfortunately poor storage seems to have killed them in their shells . put 10 down got none up 10 days later .

Looks like I have managed to kill about a dozen straws of MNS seed . Lesson learned the hard way .

The lineage is very murky . No one knows for certain . An old label on a bag of seeds from 20 years before ??

Neither did I say Ortega was the breeder of NL ?? [I`m still getting to bottom of the NL legend with NL Greg ] I said Ortega aint NL ,[possibly a hybrid]. And I stand by that .

Well it's Shanti product and he says it's nl you say it is not so you are saying he is not right... to me that is calling someone a liar. Reread that part about the breeder. I didn't say ortega is nl genetics shantibaba said it... clear now?

Me and every one else who has grown it ?
Grow some then report back ...

I thought it was worthy of another try . So I`m not saying its not good. Just its not what`s on the can .

it says Ortega is NL#1 x NL#5.

but 100% guaranteed it is not that.

so if you want to call shanti a liar for saying it is, go right ahead.
id prefer to acknowledge that shanti was trying to make it easier to understand what it is, but really that description can be misleading.
I don't remember where but if I remember correctly shanti said that Ortega was selected from old seed in which NL5 and NL1 were found. so by listing nl1 x nl5 he meant that there will be a range between those two types.
if im wrong please correct me, but this is another one where ive tried to find out the exact plants used as the parents and did not receive a clear answer. but neither NL1 or NL5 are the parents of Ortega.
