Northern lights#1 vs. northern lights #5

Yarra .

H Greg

You got the NL clone from Sun Light Supplies ?
So it had been bred / worked for several generations before you got ahold of it ?

Where are the Sun Light Supplies guys these days ? In a penitentiary ?

My friends in Holland use Yarra . They have old cuts from the 80s and use rock wool slabs . They were taught the process by an associate of Nevil`s .

nl... thanks, but still not any closer to getting an answers. you seem you know all about this nl saga as you were a part of it, please catch me up for I really don't know.. in pm if necessary. thanks!

Aloha, Steve Murphy owned The Indoor Sun Shoppe in Seattle. NL #5 was a F1 hybrid in 1982.

Steve Murphy? Did he rearrange his name into the pseudonym Murphy Stevens and author a grow book? If not what a coincidence. Are you familiar with the origins of the UW cut? Similar timeframe and area.

Hello,
Thanks for all info shared.
I do use yara nutes, kristalon brown, formarly known as HydroAgri's Nutriflora type T.
Yara Fertigation - Soluble Fertilizers | Yara
Combined with calcinit it works great for hydro based grows.
And its waaaaaaaay cheaper then any shop based ferts on the market.
But you have to do a tap water analyses to find yr own specific formula. And then again the best formula is strain type based. So if you want to give it a go and try it out, do a tap water analyses or order it with the compagny that is distributing yr tap water. You can usually find it online.

Out of curiosity, what benchmarks do you compare the results of a tissue test to, and how were those benchmarks arrived at?
Aloha, We use research like The Plant Analysis Handbook by Dr. Harry Mills, Dr.J. Benton Jones Jr.,Dr. Allen V. Barker they have the numbers for hundreds of different crops.

Aloha Sam, The Kristilon products are hard to obtain here in Hawaii. The new one I have been trying to get is the JR Peters new 16-4-17 with Ca & Mg + boosted micros. What do you think of the ratios as a one part base nutrient? 16-4-17 Hydro FeED - J. R. Peters Inc.

Sam would you mind posting the ratios of the yara brown and calcinit. Do you use 1:1 or something else?

Glad I stopped ignoring the thread

I kind of thought this was going be another meeting of the minds on Ortega. OPERATION GREEN MERCHANT  I had some fantastic NL sourced from a guy in Schenectady NY in the late '80s. It was the more juniper smelling line, #2 maybe? it wasn't labeled. Just a big bag o' seed.

This is OLD memory, and I'd never grown anything but NLDs up until then, so I'm sure it colored my impressions. Squat, very little branching. POWERFUL stone (though even then I thought kind of one dimensional), I had never seen resin like it before. I thought they were likely F2s, but they acted much like clones (I wouldn't know @that point, pothos ivy was all I'd cloned then) they were bullet proof like fuckers :p I lost the seeds on a move to TX... months before OGM came into being.

OGM, the move to Texas, loss of the seeds, and a new kid all had me take a step back. I took a 20 year break...and now maybe I'll find something similar to that bulletproof line. :D

Can you source Peters Excel range? The one i use is a finisher for hard water, probably not best suited to your water, but i know that the 14-10-26+2MgO+TE ratios produce nice end products. Ratios are the game that fert companies play, and powdered 1 part ferts are always going to be way cheaper, win win no??? There are even companies that will offer powdered ferts at the ratios you specify.

Aloha, What is the source the peters excel range??? The product is made in in the USA in Pennsylvania and they have been in business a long time.

Aloha, The 11 packets of seed Nevil received were graded the #1 ,2, 3, were 100% indica, #5 the clone I traded Herbie Nelson for was 50% Afghani & 50% Hawaiian sativa. The others #6-#11 were crosses with Columbian, Thai, and Mexican Sativas. Nevil then sold out to Ben, became partners with Arjan, and then hooked up with the Mr. Nice Crew.

Aloha NLGreg,

so the famous nl#5 clone that Nevil bred to his haze males was a hybrid afg X hawaiian sativa?

edit: i just read that you said: "NL #5 was a F1 hybrid in 1982."

I always heard it was afghan with thai in it.

Thailand = Hawaii lol

Yep I was going on the same info .
Even Nevil said he thought it was sposed to have Thai but he never saw it .

My buddies in Ha tell me there was plenty of Thai weed around n the late 70s / early eighties . Was it an Hawaiian grown Thai descendant ?

Also just learnt lately not all Thai plants are tall Sativas . Over in the Nth West they have indica types as well .

So the #2 the Hindu Kush type that was crossed to Ortegas #4 by the Seed Bank sold as Hindu Kush . Was it a different Afghani parent to the NL #1 and NL #5 ?
It certainly shows different phenos . To the #1 and #5 .

Aloha, I had clones and seed and NL #5 was Hawaiian x Steve Murphy's Afghani Strain that is what I sent to Nevil.

Aloha, Murphy Stevens = Steve Murphy. Which UW strain as I remember there were at least four indica sativa hybrids people called the UW.?

I've got a few. Check out my UW thread. My straight UW is from a guy in Seattle that got it in 81 from a guy that got it in 79. Pure afghanica with fake looking dark green waxy leaves.

Hey Greg thanks for the response. I'll shoot you a pm tonight.

Ps. Can you pm me a link to your thread pantagruel I can't find it when I search
