It is sad to see Kangativa gone too,
I personally enjoyed his contributions to this forum,
he seemed like a very friendly person.
Good Luck with the Grail Kanga and Nevil.

Kanga made a few posts recently after being in exile due to the Grail thread trolls. He popped back to update us and kashrocks proceeded to attack Kanga, so it looks like Kanga thought better of wasting his time on such CUNTS and walked. Good on him.

Sucks for us.

Kangativa, its very sad to see you go. I always enjoyed all of your post and information that you had to contribute. I know it helped me as a grower and i'm sure many others. I hope you will reconsider your decision. If not, i wish you the best of luck!

One more thing.. do us all a favor if you wouldn't mind and release those beautiful MM seeds.

Take care man.

kashrocks is a cunt for doing that, shame on him.

OK hempy, let me rephrase that - then JessE and Kashrocks trolled Kanga for absolutely zero reason - whereby he left too.

Hi Kangativa!

I always want to drop a few words in this thread, I guess I did not have enough motivation!
But you sure did give me a lot in the last year! You, Bush, Wall ...

I'm sure you will be there for us, later!

Keep that Motivation, I smell something hazemassing!

Cheers!
All the Best

I for one would like to know why some of Nev and Shanti's main supporters then turned around and attacked Nev's partner Kanga...seems like they no longer support Nev doesn't it?

And I don't buy this fucken hushhush shit...lets not sweep it under the carpet this time hempy. Let's ask the question - why do Kashgari and JessE no longer support Nev?

If I were the cynical, suspicious type I might suspect it is because they wish to discredit him on behalf of someone else who they have vehemently supported.

Nev and Kanga are doing some amazing work, work which will benefit anyone who is interested in the betterment of the genepool.

Now, who would want to derail that process? Why, would it not be someone who would stand to lose face and business should they succeed in bringing to the table something new and of the utmost quality? Someone whose work would not stand up well by comparison?

Fishy to say the least....

Hello

I don't know why that people attacked Kanga. Kanga is a very kind person and a master grower and breeder, so the people that attacked him only got shame for themselves.

It is a pity that he flown from here. I hope that he come back again soon.

Hi Kanga, just touching on the Thai, I believe that as well as reducing flowering time and bulking up the heads, crossing the Thai with a more indica based strain may act as a necessary step in sealing in the raw psychedelic power of the Thai. For although I have not read anything on the matter, it seems evident to me that all of the powerfully trippy strains that leave SE Asia, end up losing their potency over time - no matter how good the new environment is for growing - for no other reason than that the humid equatorial jungles of SE Asia are the optimal environment for maintaining and preserving that unique high.

It seems that the prominent school of thought in cannabis circles is that strains only change via mutation, where I believe that change occurs in increments over time, without the need for large ostensible gene shifts - as a natural mechanism of adaptation.

Over the years thousands upon thousands of Thai sticks have entered Western markets like Australia and the US, and while these strains start off as powderkegs of trippiness that leave people gaga for hours - the question must be asked - where are they now? What happens to these cultivars? Because not a single one exists that has that same raw intensity. Hence over time strains like MM and Haze lose there much vaunted power and end up being very good smokes, but not stupefying brilliant smokes like we've all encountered in the past.

To me there is no other plausible explanation for why Thai sticks do not remain Thai sticks over time, other than a loss of potency due to less than optimal growing conditions. And although I do not have much of an argument to explain my intuition, I believe that this degradation is somewhat allayed by hybridizing said super sativa to a strain that produces a plant more suited to local conditions. Which in your case is probably a 66% to 75% sativa ratio.

I would also be interested in seeing you and Nevil cross that Thai stick to that Skunk of Nevil's that I sampled earlier this year, as a means to best replicate the 'original haze' so to speak. For another intuition of mine is that the 'original haze' was nothing more than Thai stick x an early era Skunk.

Yep, that's my opinion on the original haze - Thai stick x Skunk. Skunk being a combination of Mexican, Colombian and Afghan.

I'm not referring to the shitty skunk that most are familiar with, but that early roadkill skunk that took the world by storm, which I also believe you guys possess. While I think the Mazar is a nicer smoke. I think Nevil's Skunk is more potent.

That's all.

Perhaps this could explain why the Thais lose their powerful psychedelic trippy high when they are not grown in their natural enviroment after a few generations.

Epigenetics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At first I thought that was due to the growers kill all the males and they later sow the seeds that they find in the buds, that perhaps are selfpollination from a few small male flowers. Or they grow only a handful of plants unlike the practice in the country of origin where thousands plants grow together. So in a few years they have a highly inbreed seeds with lost vigour and weak potency.

But I have read about some other plants that lost their vigour and quality when they are grown far from their homeland, so the seed must be replaced a few years later in order to improve the lost quality. So perhaps epigenetics explain better so fast changes in a strain or the lose of quality in a clon after a few years.

Best regards.

Thanks for that tinleefloufa. I was switched on to the idea that environment affects potency when I read Shanti mentioning that longstanding clones need to occasionally be put outside to restore health. Donald Mallard subscribes to the idea that environment affects potency, and I recently read where Dubi of Ace Seeds suggested that their OT1 Haze performs much better in terms of vigour and potency when grown outside in a warmer climate. Seems to make sense. I hope this doesn't dishearten indoor growers, because I believe that the light spectrum afforded by indoor setups is perfect for 60/40 sat/indica ratios and below (i.e. more towards indica).

On another note, I did argue a while back that plant size affects potency - the bigger the plant the greater the potency - after Kangativa said that such was his experience. I have since reversed my position on this point, in recent months I have had the opportunity to smoke a couple of plants from more than one grower in the 15-20 foot 9-13 pound range. Neither of these plants were as potent as a number of smaller plants sampled from the same variety:).

Nice info tinlee ,

hey bushy ,,
thankfully the size of the plant doesnt matter ,,
if it did id be introuble ,, hehe ,,
mine are usually a metre tall or less ,
its genetics and environment that will determin the potency imho ..

Always been my view Bushy.

I never doubted that Bushy. Its pretty obvious environment effects potency as well as genetics. Try growing a Mango tree in London.:D Try growing a cactus in a rainforest. Indicas like a cool dry finishing period just like they have in the mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Mates of mine who grow indica dominant strains indoors without aircon always have their best product when its flowered during the cooler months. The cooler the temps the more resin production ( even if yields are down ) Id imagine equatorial Sativas crave equatorial conditions. Plants adapt to the environment. It's called evolution. :D Cheers Mate, hope all's well.

I think something thats often overlooked by growers in cooler climates ,

is that equatorial erbs grown in the local mature when the days are hot ,
its not like the waning days that one would harvest in cooler climates,
the temps are still in the 30s , and the resins are just pumping ,,

without this sort of finish , one couldnt expect the same results ...

Another thing to consider ,
the longer flowering varieties are the ones that seem to produce that "special sativa high" that we desire ,
those types can never be grown to fruition indoors or too far from their climate,
to acclimatise them to your cooler climate will require selection of earlier maturing types ,
selecting away from the high we are looking for in exhange ealier maturation .. you cant have your cake and eat it too ...

heres a quote from robert clarkes book to back up what ive said ...

>>>Even if a grower has no desire to attempt crop improvement, successful strains have to be protected so they do not degenerate and can be reproduced if lost. Left to the selective pressures of an introduced environment, most drug strains will degenerate and lose potency as they acclimatize to the new conditions.<<<<<

Spot on Wal , in the tropics they usually finish in the dry season , not in winter per se. Still boiling hot but not as humid as in the wet season. Probably one of the reasons( along with the constant 12 hour photoperiod ) that they finish so late ( june - august in the southern hemisphere) . I presume thats why its easier to regrow plants here around 28 degrees. We get the 14 hour days unlike you blokes from 15 degrees to the equator. Then you have to factor in the actual microclimate the strain originated in. The closer you get to replicating it the more similar to its ancestors it will be. Cheers Mate.
