tiny mango haze at day 42---why???

Hello growers

I have a mango haze cutting that is a prize selection from 30 or so mothers. It is supposed to be a wonderfully sweet smelling, soaring high, 12-week pheno with a very good yield.

I put two tiny cuttings in coco hempies six weeks ago in 12/12, both were rooted in coco and seemed ready to go. Now, at week 7, they are incredibly tiny, as if there has been no stretch at all. They were both trained by gently tying them horizontally, but I don't see why that would have effected them.

they are each about 10" long from the base, and have tiny buds with resin and so forth on them. If they don't fill out I will get about 5 grams from each!

For the first month I fed them GH 3-part nutes using the "veg" and then "transition to flowering" ratios. Now they are on the "bloom" ratio. I know they are going to be great, but why are they so small? they have 800w of hps, and all of my previous grows have done very well with this setup.
other plants in the same tent, same nutes, same coco hempys are doing very well. most of them are 10 week phenos of various sativas and hybrids.

does Mango Haze have a second explosion of growth late in the flowering stage? are these destined to be runts?

thanks

It's common for people to overfeed Haze hybrids and/or feed them too much Nitrogen. If your regime was working fine for another variety, this would be my first guess as to why the MH isn't responding like your other grows. A 12 week Mango Haze is just getting started at 6 weeks so give 'em a chance.

Got any pics?

Peace.

there is prolly no roots , most likely drown them or over nute , when all is said and done check the roots n see , if its possible to check them now then do so , if there are none or hardly any id kill them and start again because you dont wanna waste your time if the root system was drownd or fried

Well that is good info.

they are in hempy buckets, which sort of stay at a constant moisture level. I don't know if they have been overwatered. Overfed, maybe, but I use less than full strength.

If the plant lacks a root mass, will it put on any at all at this point? I don't want to kill them, even if I just get 10 grams total, it is still 10 grams of select mango haze.

any way to improve the root situation at this point?

is 6 weeks for mango haze really a place where the stretch is just beginning?

I know that my SSH pheno took forever, but when it did begin to stretch it had no buds at all, whereas this mango plant has very real buds...

thanks, guys,

Hi V,
At day 42 you should have plants that you're referring too in feet or meters, not inches. My first thoughts were either root bound, your medium is too wet or you've found a dwarf pheno, something I have seen before in SSH. But if you've got a selected plant, something is clearly not right.

Did you select the pheno, or did you get it from somewhere else? It sounds like the rest of the plants are doing fine, correct? So what is different between their set ups and this Mango Haze? Is the drain hole large enough to function properly? Nothing blocking the water flow, etc? Any and all information you can share will help in coming to some sort of conclusion. Is there anything else in the reservoir, perlite for example?

Do you have a picture you could share with us?

if they are lacking in roots they will finish but you wont get more then your suspected 5 grams each (give or take a bit) , ive run clones that this happened to for seeds because they were alive but thats all , they refused to grow , when harvesting the plant/seeds id pull the plant to find no roots , a few hairs at best , was the stalk of the plant realy that was pulling up just enough moisture to sustain life but not grow more then a few inches past the original clone size

I have 1 MH pheno that went through 2 budding phases but it was my first round with it so I'm not 100% if it was me or the plant. Your plants should be a lot bigger regardless.

I like what these guys are telling you about your root system being a possible cause for your slow growth. You're definitely not going to have a robust root system on underdeveloped plants.

Good luck with it.

Peace.

it was the roots, indeed

Hello everyone,
This plant was harvested some time ago, and the roots--or lack of roots--were the culprit. Probably got about 7g, but it was still good. In the meantime I harvested a second cutting of the same in soil with good roots, and had a very nice harvest. Now I have a very well-vegged cutting rooted in soil, still vegging in a 5 gallon smartpot. Should be a nice fall harvest of Mango, one plant at a time!

thanks for your input,
vajra
