Hello everyone, Haze seems to be a real passion for alot of people on here and I decided to do some reading up on the history of the strain. The Haze brothers seem to keep popping up whenever I read about this strain and I was just wondering if anyone had any info on the brothers. Some people say that they were actually Rob Clarke and Sam does anyone know if this is true. Thanks alot guys CF.

hello CF,

type the title of your post into the SEARCH feature??????????????.:(

Loads of info.

i found my self asking the same questions a few months ago, shanti did an article, i think called the origins of haze, very interesting to read. il try find the link for you.

Gotta say I thought I was pretty well read on the subject of Haze but I`ve
not heard that rumor before.
Don`t think I`ve seen the Shanti article either. Excited to see what this thread drags up:)

that article was by stressie....
Making it speculation at best....
I'm not sure I've seen shanti express his view on the history of haze....
Some believe the 'haze bros' strory to be total bs, as many do the G13 story...
Is there any point carrying on all these strories, that in the end hinge on the word of an individual.... An individual in a corrupt industry, where a lie can propel you to the top of your game.... Think forward...
Peace and love

Not true, in my opinion. No Way.

irrelevant icons: Haze brothers

we have the premiere Haze developer on this board: Nevil. the way forward will have little to do with discussing the Haze brothers in my opinion. from what i gather they were more fortunate than skilled.

You guys could read some post from HappyHi on Icmag. He was a guy that help the haze brothers with the haze crops.

I second that ,his post coincide with another member here at mns hooteroll

his first post below

Fact vs. Fiction

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Read Sam the Skunkman's posting about the Haze Brothers with great interest and wanted to clear up a few things. First, I was there in Santa Cruz in the Seventies when it was all happening and never heard the original growers refer to themselves as the Haze Brothers. The infamous Haze Brothers did actually exist, but they were consumers, not growers.

How do I know? I was one of those three brothers and we bought, smoked and shared as much Haze as probably anyone on the planet. We were originally herb connoisseurs from back east who had grown up on the best Columbian, Jamaican, Panama Red, Thai Stick, etc. But even with our backgrounds, we had never seen, smelled or smoked anything like the Haze. The first time we saw those dark purple buds, we could hardly believe it (nor the price, which was $250 per ounce). From that point on, it became the Dom Perignon of our stashes.

So as far as the tasting test with R from High Times Magazine in New York, it did happen and we roasted, toasted and basted him with three varieties of Haze. He was kind of cocky when we got there and more like cold-cocked when we left. Even with all the high quality weed out there today, I don't think any of it is better or more exotic than the first Purple Haze, which was so dark and delicious, we called it the Root Beer.

Two last notes. First, there was a band, The Original Haze, that played in clubs around Santa Cruz in the Seventies that was part of the story. Second, for those rare few who were lucky enough to own one, there was a beautiful, limited edition grower's poster, that listed the soil ingredients, directions and Haze philosophy, In Haze We Trust. The last line of the poster read "Enjoy!" and we lived by that motto.

So that's the story behind the story

another interesting read in which sams speaks about the haze brothers is my thread at IC is question for sam the skunkman on the original haze

.

while i do agree with your opening statement ,ive always felt in order to know where your going your should first know where you came from

Thanks alot for that Big Herb so the Haze Brothers were connoisseurs then and not growers. Why did everyone think they were growers ? iv read that R article and im sure he said they were growers to.

Good post, bigherb.

So...where does that put us?

Does this mean that the heritage of Haze is completely unknown?

Let's suppose that, since this very early example of Haze was purple, that the mother of modern Haze was purple. Maybe even the same Zacatecas purple that made it to Big Sur about the same time. So when some self seeded ZP comes through Cali, 2 growers are smart enough to knock up their fems with it, perhaps a Thia or Columbian male is used. Then MAYBE, these very first Haze seeds made by a grower in Santa Cruz was simply an attempt to preserve this rare ZP since they knew that coming across them again was highly improbable. Since the ZP is long but extinct we don't have the reference needed to debate the heritage of Haze fully informed. Maybe the old school Purple Kush was a ZP cross as well.

Lotta maybe's.

I want to add some insight and share my experience with BSHW. A buddy of mine was given 1 seed of BSHW. He grew a 14 foot monster out of it and it bore only about 8 seeds. I trimmed and manicured 2 lbs of it myself and found only 2 seeds, 1 of which turned up in the 2 oz he gave me for helping.

So, if the very low instance of self pollination is a trait of the ZP, you could use that fact to trace where it might have been used in the gene pool. This would also explain the rareness which = likeliness that someone bred with it. My buddy only got 1 seed and it just happened to be female?.....but then it self pollinated which puts me in the same shoes as someone else was years ago. "I got 2 oz of this really good shit and it had 1 seed in it." We all know what you do with that seed! "I hope it's a female" LOL!

She's the biggest seed I have ever seen:

Hi all,
Its always amusing to watch my various trolling varmints across the world post with immature rhyming names, meant to be insults lol and almost always expressing complete bullocks research. How funny is it you sign off with words like love and peace, but you've demonstrated yourself to be a pathetic troll over and over again. Is this the part where you start a thread screaming that you're leaving the forum because I responded back to your trash post? lol ;)

The Origins of Haze article was in fact written by myself (with credit given to Shantibaba for his contributions, Thank you once again Sir) and to date is still a story I stand behind because I used the best available sources to put the information together, and prior to its inception all that the community had to go on were small fragments of information scattered throughout dozens of threads, on multiple forums with an enormous amount of bullshit sandwiched in to confuse the story even more. And of course you had the Icmag thread, which presented a one sided story stacked against Nevil (who really made this strain famous) which painted Sam the Skunk man the messiah. My article offered a different perspective, from the best possible sources available, as to the extent and truth surrounding the juggernaut strain.

Since I shared the story with the community here at MNS first, before it even circulated in the magazine, it has rekindled a curiosity in the majority that had only been seen previously in the most dedicated of members. And more information has come to light since then than in years previously and in that respect the article has definitely served its purpose. As we're talking one of finest strains of cannabis available in the world bar none here at the MNS camp.

I found a pic of SnowCap's BSHW, looks pretty Hazey to me. Kinda like NH would look if it didn't have any NL5 in it:

EDIT: LOL! I just read the rest of the article at THC Farmer.

So BSHW is ZP seeds grown in Cali. Lucky me!

My buddy said the seed he got was very old.

WHOA, WHOA, Whoa...If Haze was actually ZP and BSHW is ZP...I have old-ass Haze seed?

AHAHAAAHAHAAHHHAAAAA!!!!

thanks for your contributions

but fact is the article is a very basic report of the origins as in santa cruz cali (like the first 3 lines) and yes we have since found out much info but there are is some mistruths there such as the opening lines of the brothers which sams contadicts again in this post below

I am glad you three were the Haze Brothers, and you are just smokers, and I am sure you did get "R" toasted for the High Times article. And I am the first to admit that the two real Haze Bros "the growers" did not call them selves Haze Bros until long after the High Times article came out, so what does that mean?

anyhow the thread which you refer at IC mine was referenced for atleast the haze description which was a direct response to me and wat you consider colorful i now consider lame for the fact this is the only description we have from the man who was there and the only from anyone ive seen posted in my time until my next response of the description from happyhi which without even thinking or second guessing is the best description to date on ohaze

at the time of your article my thread was 40 pages deep but the most informative single source of haze history and still is,as for one sided or messiah ,well we all see things abit different through the same window but SAMS was actually ruffed up IMO at the time in heated arguments (the thread wasnt about nevil but som folk pushed that issue). actually from wat i have seen since my time on the net SAMS gave the most info to date in a short time,it was great because during this time he exposed his contradictions aswell as told us some truth of givin nevil haze and nevil not meeting the bro's aswell as that famous haze description which is now widely used lol

this was not intended as a shot ,i hope you can respectfully accept my opinion

sorry, couldn't remember who wrote the article jesse, just remembered it was about the haze bros, so, im now completely and utterly confused. Are there any hard facts to work with here regarding where it all began?

I'm going to further this conversation that I'm having with myself and add a theory behind the inheritance of Haze and it's association with the staminate parent. MNS uses Haze males in breeding because...I believe Nev said...that female Haze did not preform well as a parent, I think testing of progeny was even specified.

Now let's suppose that ZP (as Haze) is the contributor of the minor incident self pollination trait. Any male plant of Haze would then have to come from a cross with another strain and that using fem pollen is the correct way to breed Haze. I know it's blasphemy, I'm just trying to figure out how to work with what I got. The BSHW and Haze look....the exact same? I've never heard of a BSHW male. An example of one would be great. The BSHW has the same mysterious background like Haze. Maybe breeder's don't use it because they know the seeds had to be fem. I say a 14 foot plant that produces 10 seeds is an AWESOME trait to work with....but not if you are into seed production. The selfing obviously occurred extremely early for there to be so few but very well developed seeds, right? The ZP monks could have bred that trait into it which means that's the way you have to use it retain the trait. Maybe Haze and BSHW are mysterious legends because they are the progeny of an even more mysterious legend.

HOLY SH! I once considered that the reason the ZP was purple was because of the silver content of the Zacatecas Mountains. Now I'm thinking that the silver is responsible for causing the monks stuff to herm!

I'm femming this BSHW and tagging my MH with it. Criticism welcome.

The color is genetic if it was the Environment more thing growing there like trees scrubs grass would be purple also.

I see people log into the net and lay claim to have gone to school with the haze brothers grew up with them or lived in the Same street as them party with them so on yet why is it they seam to drop off and not seen agine worse part is still people believe every ward sed by them.

I find it a little od to that haze is only available commercially threw Neville /shanti and TFD postronics yet not found in pure form with in cali even and yet they call the people that did the real work on haze that caused a haze revolution hacks.

Reality is Neville Sam are it if they dont know then sorry the people posting hear in this post and on other boards are only guessing haze was seen in Australia threw the 70s to so i am thinking in other parts to it was from all that has been sed by the people that know as much about it as any one to be a x of good sativas.

The rest is a bit like a bad divorce messy and the truth is often not the main focus any longer its about who can get the better deal out of it in this i mean looking important because they seam to know more or hold the best version of the haze reality is you want the best available haze go get your self some F1 Neville's haze and run them select and find it.

some good points you make

i agree why the sudden hello then disapearing act ,but the info is interesting and not a first .as for the many who know the haze bro's or lived there id love to know exactly who ,because since my time on the net ive asked anyone who mentions OHAZE or incense for a description .ive gotten a handful of response which are lacking detail

id like to add about hooteroll is the fact that he is the only one to post on the boards the reference to the rootbeer pheno aka purple haze aside from SAMS n happyhi

then his post below which coincides with many of happhi's post about the 3 brothers that we here about now for the first time.

Lastly, according to memory, we three brothers from the east coast who migrated to Santa Cruz were the only ones to call ourselves the Haze Brothers. Never once heard the original two growers refer to themselves that way, maybe because they weren't biological brothers for starters. Either way, it's all in the rear view mirror, now. Smoke on the Water
.

how about the haze poster who Sams recognizes aswell as hooteroll, you been around before me who was the first to post it ?

does this poster have any significance in your opinion?

i dont believe what i hear i believe wat i see ,nevil has nothin to do with the haze origins ,infact its possible the haze origins of mns stock is from a ohaze hybrid as nevil discussed .as for Sams i just cant believe somone who stories change from time time then dont add up

I find it a little od to that haze is only available commercially threw Neville /shanti and TFD postronics yet not found in pure form with in cali even and yet they call the people that did the real work on haze that caused a haze revolution hacks

great point ,this one ive mentioned manytimes before mightaa mentioned it to ya.i had athread athcfarm cali haze where she at ,i think it was in CC forums ,im sure you remember swerve.although there are a handful of reports with members active to varify this that there are old haze lines 20+ 25 being the oldest i know of that are held till this day in cali hills by the same families noted for the incense trait :D

but its dissapointing No current breeders have a haze cut or offers haze seeds,id imagine there are a few circles with haze held since back then look at blue dream.

We Know that more than a seed or soo was found now and then soo you can imagine the haze might be alive in other parts of the map such as NYC

as for your closing statment i agree nevilles haze is the best haze ive experienced available from any breeder
