The Great Cheese Deception

LOL jesse do you have any of these clones? or tried them ? or is this all read alot done little type of thing?

couldnt part of the variation be that the same clone grown by diff growers with diff systems is gonna look diff? enviroment has a massive role in the expression of the genetics,i did scan through so if somebody has already added this to the debate my apologies.Even though the visual expessions vary though there should still be that funky cheesy pong in the product which is pretty reconisable to those in the know.
Then theres phycosis and suicide cheese, plus the blues.People renaming things for commercial purposes doesnt help much either.
Im not entirely sure where the confusion lays though for you jesse, theres the og exodus cut, theres others which as bh said are possibly skunk and NL type hybrids.Thats it.

Hi all
hi Jesse,

I am quite familiar with Cheese as while my time in the UK I had the chance of sampling quite few different versions , all coming from completely different sources around the country . Many were not Cheese looking and didn't even smell as they should (..definitelly lots of fake Cheese out there..) but some did and were quite similar to the Cheese you and others posted. I 've seen many of these Cheese version's plants in different stages of growth in different gardens as well and I also grew one of the best versions I found myself so I have bit of experience with it tho to be honest I have to say I didn't really it much smokewise , its just a nice smelly commercial SK line as far as I m concerned. Some like it but personally I prefer other strains for growing and meditating .

Regarding the first pic you posted in the thread of the 'Original Cheese' , I remember seeing that years ago over Overgrow. If you ask me its not a fake/photoshopped pic as some suggested earlier , its just a trimmed bud that was photographed outdoors under nice lighting. Fill-in flash was definitelly used when that shot was taken , thats why the lighting in the pic may seem fake to some , but ask any good photographer and he 'll tell you the same..actually its pretty easy to tell that flash was also used from the sharp n short shadows on the buds created from flash lighting coming from the cams point of view. All the big fully swollen calyxes help with the bag-appeal a lot and the way the shot was lit (soft outdoor lighting+flash) makes the flowers look really great and super frosty..but no its not a fake/photoshopped pic , just a good outdoor photo of a nice trichome covered flower bouquet. Over OG some had also suggested that those buds with the fat calyxes are seeded which may well be the case as well.

As far as the suspect comparison pics go..I would like to say that while I don't really know if the pics represent real Cheese , I can definitelly say that some have quite a resemblance to the first Original Cheese pic and look similar to what I know to be Cheese. None looks identical but this doesn't mean much really...
In my experience , clones grown in different gardens will grow differently and many times it seems its not even easy to tell its the same cut . The genotype may be the same but the phenotypic expressions will be different in different environments / growing styles. I 've seen multiple times that cuts can grow quite differently when they are grown by different people..infact not once did I see identical results, only lots of similarities and with my limited knowledge I can say that I see a lot of similarities in some of the 'suspect' Cheese pics judging from calyx and pistil color , calyx size , shape & structure , calyx arrangement/bud formation etc etc. Having said that , again all these things don't mean everything , as again growing conditions and environment will affect how the plant grows and looks in the end.

Now I don't know if the real Cheese is dead or still in the hands of some but considering this strain was passed around by my many I believe there is a good possibility that growers still have the real version. Either way not a line that I fancy and I personally wouldn't grow it again , so even if its/becomes an extinct line I wouldnt worry..the are many much better lines to grow n smoke out there in my humble opinion . Btw I don't see what this thread is all about, I understand that you are trying to let people know about fake Cheese...but I think its pretty clear that there are many fake versions of Cheese floating around. We all know this is the case with all popular/successful lines (see successful names like SSH , Widow etc ) ..and the popular Cheese would not be an exception so I m not sure I can see your point. Do you believe the real Cheese is completely lost/gone..or just saying none of what you saw doesn't look to you similar to the first original Cheese pic ?

Have fun
L33t

Hi L33t,
Nice to see you here :) Actually theres no chance thats a bud photographed outside, considering there was a man standing beside the plant all these years ago now. As I mentioned earlier, this picture presented has actually been cropped. The original picture had a man standing beside the plant, so that must have been one big bud lol.

Thanks for stopping in man,

Peace

''Actually theres no chance thats a bud photographed outside, considering there was a man standing beside the plant all these years ago now.''

Hi J

so you believe that this is a bud shot indoors?
what makes you be certain of that? A man standing beside the plant doesn't mean it was indoors.

BTW I think I do remember the original pic , do you happen to still have it archived ? if so I would love to see the uncropped version showing the guy beside the plant (even without the mans face/ face-blackened or blurred).

''The original picture had a man standing beside the plant, so that must have been one big bud lol.''

'Lens distortion' can make something that is slightly further away from the cam seem smaller than it really is..and also make something closer to the cam seem bigger that it is in reality. Photos taken with a short focal distance lens usually suffer from 'lens perspective distortion' and it may be the case with the original uncropped pic. Judging from the number of calyxes on these buds in the pic I can say that its not a big or massive bud.. seems more like 2/3 - 1 oz max total (dry) weight.

Takes Five Weeks To Reveg
Or At Least Thats What It Took Me For Growing Outdoors Last Summer :)

I Do Have An Image In Here Somewhere of A Cabinet Grow - Exodus Cheese

Maybe For You Cavaliers , But Not Us Roundheads

Due To My Tree Outgrowing It's Bark After Finding The Love Of My Life , I Had My Problematic " Banana Split " Removed At The Age Of 37:o:D
Despite The Strain Name Of Cheese , All I Ever Tasted Was A Sweet Grapefruity Flavour And Great High
Comparable With Other Fine Strains , It Did Not Stand Out And Appear Anywhere Near The Best Herb I Have Smoked In The Past
The Bluebird Coffeeshop Had The Best ( Blue Cheese ) In My Travels
But K.G.B ( A Burmese Cross ) Would Easily Blow It Out The Water
As Would These Strains I Have Had The Fortune To Sample And Buy

I could care less what other people grow. It's a plant with a name that a person gave to it. If I got a clone of a plant that was supposed to be special, and I didn't find it so, I wouldn't keep it, no matter the name. By the same token, If I got a clone of a plant with no name, and it smoked/grew great, I would keep it, just based in it's individual qualities. That said, I do care to know the lineage/heritage of the seeds that I buy and grow.

The 'exodus cheese' is a selection from Sk#1, and Sk #1 has been used arguably more in Dutch crosses than any other plant (maybe haze, maybe nl, maybe PP/durban, widow, etc...). I have grown a few Sk dominant plants that absolutely carried a cheesy stank. Cheese wasn't the ONLY smell, but I've heard that the 'exodus cheese' is a complex smelling, stinky/stanky plant. Nothing sweet - cheese, skunk, dookie, burnt rubber, etc... If the smell is not ALL that unique (I haven't found 'cheesey' to be a tough smell to find, it was in the pakalolo's heavy, and in some of the SSH's and Shits in the background), and the high is great for some good for others, and average to a few others, why the hype? Just because it stinks?

hi all not going to get into a pissing match here im over it but heres the thing cheese as its called is sk1 why do people have the need to tag an all ready named strain is behond me.

Sk1 is sk1 no matter how hard you try and explane your resions for re nameing it.

That pic of the sk1 plant called cheese i rember well from cw when it first showed up and there infact was a picture of a plant growing out doors.

I have yet to see any one growing a plant that looked any thing like it.

So many so called elite lines are just phinos of comercialy avaluble lines or pollyhybrids made from comercialy avaluble lines any one in here can get hype is hype marketing plane and simple.

 :)

I started growing summer of 2007. Grass city and Icmag pretty much convinced me to grow inside. I was growing outside one day, a day later found weed forums, and 2weeks later had a closet. Ok, so the 'must haves' summer of 2007 were (and trust me, I remember, I wanted an og kush cut soooo bad. Didn't know what it was, but I wanted one...):
ogkush
c99
cheese
Rez sour d seeds
BOG stuff
Tom Hill stuff
Ace 'haze projects'
ssh

There was all this hype over certain names and flavors. Remember, I knew NOTHING about the scene until I found the forums. I didn't even know what an overgrow was. I think I last bought a hightimes in '97, and never heard of the other mags. So to me, all the stuff that the 'posters' raved about was the top of the heap. It seemed like certain cuts were only liked by people in certain areas (I had no idea how they were getting these plants, but they showed pix, so they must exist). Out west was the ogkush, in the east it was sour d, UK it was cheese, canada/pac nw it was c99, etc... I learned that I would have to give up my address to get these cuts. Well, THAT'S out. So I looked for the best seeds. The people who talked the least, but had the loudest pictures with the most to say, were running MrN stuff - SSH, medman, af/hz, (and agro's killer Spice grow pushed me that way). So I gave it a whack.

6mo later, I have keepers (ssh and Spice), but I can't help wondering why Shanti doesn't use these 'end-all be-all' clones? Other co's are using them, and the growers are going crazy for them.

It's pretty clear why Shanti isn't using them. He doesn't want the hype, lol. How much more hype was created in Shanti's ~1/2 dozen posts with the words 'NL x Hz' in them? Lol, it takes Shanti ~6 posts saying "I'm working on something..." to get the hype machine as cranked up as hundreds of thousands of posts about the 'elites', and how they were the best to come down the line.

Top 10% of plants is the top 10%. IMO, MrN gives me a GREAT shot at getting the top 10% of cannabis plants, and the top 10% of MrN plants? Well....

Hi All

just read this thread through and thought it is pretty funny how hype just seems to be like a boulder rolling down hill.

The fact is I have seen alot of people's versions of Cheese...all different but with similar aromas...those of Skunk #1. Everyone has their own traits they like in a plant hence slight differences if grown from seed. Cheese, Garlic Bud and several others were all originating back to work Nev did years ago.

I am not really sure why it still causes hype but might be to do with yield and smells...not the main criteria I use for selection as primary but a fair thing for others who are going for the financial grow.

All the best Sb

cheese grows different in everybodys room and outdoors,
this cutt was sourced back from heath robinson < where he got it , Dont know:cool:

for some like me i can make her chunk up with the fat catalyx and pods were others with the same cutt.we all shared.Theres does not....also outdoor the leaves get all thinner and she can have that menthlated toejam smell or end up with that fruity smell. Plant totally never grows the same for anybody:rolleyes: One minute it grows out more indica dom for me while me friends get thinner Sat leafs with out the chunk.

I was cruising the mrnice subforum over ICmag site and I saw an SSH plant that looked similar to the Cheese seen in the first pic of this thread. Not identical but quite similar , they are from member Hot Cargo.

Considering the SSH has NL and Haze genetics apart from Skunk and SSH having only 25% SK blood , I believe this ssh pheno is quite a SK dominant one. Although lighting and flower colors are a bit different in the pics compared to the Cheese one , I can definitelly see quite some resemblance esp regarding the flower/calyx structure.

..anyway just thought to post them here as when I saw them I told to myself that these ones look bit like the Cheese pic JessE posted in the first post.
