Shanti & Nev will you work with the blue lines?

The Deal

Whether Steve is dealing in MJ anymore, or not. Created this, or that, OR NOT! I spoke several times with him back in the day on a personal level. I am sure he doesn't remember me, but I do him. I have not a bad word to say about the man. He was always forthright with me, and I feel honest with his opinions. Mostly we spoke of political issues, and how we felt about them. So what if he had some different views than I did. We had some the same, but I always enjoyed speaking to the man. I may not speak to him anymore, but always enjoyed it. Be well everyone...Ns

Steve was a nice guy every ones mate and had good mj while he was selling seed now his not and not posting and now his not such a good guy or is he a good breeder that sum it up right or am i wrong.

Never met him, but he don't seem nice to me! he shat on his so called friends.

^ well you can look at what Chimera has to say over at IC about his personal experiences with Steve.. summed up, very bad..

Me thinks that thread got deleted, but I can sum it
up for anyone that wants 2 kno. 2 put it succinctly,
notsomuch BreederSteve. Moreso just plain Steve.

Kind of like King Arjan.

Kash with all respect do you not see the irony of calling Chimera yet listing those seedlines? tell me did BS breed NL5xhaze? or the grapefruit clone? we both know that he didn't...

and you do remember how the Sweet skunk came about don't ya?

hardly a masterplan was it. BS it appears was good at marketing & bullshit IMO (also don't think it has any SPG in it so (Chim could clear that up)).

Gob,

The Sweet Blue hybrid was originally planned as a joint-project between Breeder Steve and DJ Short, in order to help to put Steve back on track after he sudden move from Switzerland in 2003 when he had to left everything he owned there after the cops raided the Davesco facility. The mother used in that project was a Sweet Skunk clone Steve had selected from 500 seeds in 1994, and the father a recent Blueberry male selected by DJ Short.

The Sweet Skunk was one of the first hybrid Steve had released when he created Spice of Life in BC back in the days. The mother was a clone Steve had acquired from another grower who believed it was an old NL selection from Seatlle. When left to mature longer than usual the plant developped a Sweet Pink Grapefruit taste and aroma, and so Steve dubbed it S.P.G. The father side is a bit more complex since it was first thought to be a Sensi Seed Big Skunk but it appeared after testing the progeny that it was in fact a Sensi Seed NL#5Hz: two trays of clones had had their tags mixed up.

Once you know this, don't you think it is a bit farfeteched that Chimera is now trying to claim Sweet Blue as his own creation when he in fact just matted two plants bred and selected by other breeders.

Hope this helps.

Peace.

Oh shit!
This thread is gonna go to shit real quick unless we hold the wheel tight!
Let's just say that Chimera is a good guy, intelligent and he holds enough P1's
to create a very nice variety of strains..

TY for keepin that SPG alive and well buddy!

You SPG x NL F1 back in the day produced some very nice specimens as you know.

Breeder Steve,,hmm shall we say got lucky ,had some very nice breeding stock fall into his lap,,used his eye and gut to cross the proper P1's resulting in some pretty nice F1's.

Is he a Scott (Shanti),or Neville ? umm nope!

Blueberry,,,from what I've played with over the years has yet to impress me ever!

It's a novelty that will produce some very, shall we say unique plants? if you are patient enough to fuck with about 3 generations of seedstock.

I for the life of me cannot figure out how somebody can play with a line so long and the results are what we call blueberry...

sorry not a blueberry fan...

But will give DJ the credit that he inspired alot of people to breed...
and that's pretty neat..

Some of Dutch Passion's old original offerings were classic DJ indica blueberry
and they ended up trashing the whole line...

Nev and Scott please ,,please never even consider this blue shit!

Is he a Scott (Shanti),or Neville ? umm nope!

I agree with you and I even think Steve himself never believed he was in the same league. He had the opportunity to visit MNS breeding facilities and I am quite sure he must had been quite impressed by what he saw back then.

Peace.

K.

Ahh am I the only one left who loves the Flo line!?

I know a seedbank is now offering Dutch Passion's Blue Moonshine again, not sure how much it has to do with the original...

On a previous discussion with another owner of a dutch seedbank. the owner mentioned reintroducing Blue Velvet to the market again, which was my favourite out of the blue lines.

I still have a cut of the Blueberry Sativa that is completely dynamite, massive yields, wonderful smell.

As for Shanti and Nev working the blue lines... I do think they have plenty other strains to work magic with and don't need to retread previously treaded territories, though I am very interested to see what this 96 Flo I got from Snowhigh will do with some of Shanti's Haze lines! I'm not above retreading the past if it seems worthwhile =0)

As for Chimera, he really rocks the blue lines out. I've ran a few of his strains now, namely Schnazzleberry and Mental Floss and found amazing lifetime keepers in the Mental Floss and some really amazing stuff in the Schnazzleberry.

Kash,

Well that differs with this version of events -

The sweet skunk clone wasn't even selected by steve... so who really knows the heritage. According the the cannabis cowboy, Steve showed up with a half dead clone in a paper bag at the cowboy's place.. a customer had brought it in to Harvest Springs and told steve it came from the Sweet Skunk seedlot and produced something special. Steve asked the cowboy to try to make sure it lived... and it did... but the 'chain of custody' is pretty weak as far as authentication. Additionaly, the 'supposed' NL X Haze plant which was passed onto steve as clones, were A) supposed to be female and B) labelled Big Skunk. All this tellms me, it could be ANYTHING.

The genetic tests I ran on the SS showed clearly no markers associated with the SPG- so it's not related to the GF. Phenotypically, ANYONE who has grown more than a few dozen plants from seed will tell you that they share absolutely ZERO in terms of similarity.... and to say otherwise I would suggest is proof you havent grown the real clones.

As far as Steve's claims about Fed- they are clearly speculation based on one of steve's many angry cocaine rants. Mikado is grapefruit based... in fact I am sure it is based on it originally- I've grown about 15 packs and some sure do smell exactly like the grapefruit (aka the only thing to grow).... which steve can't make ANY claim to... he renamed it... perhaps we should we more accurately call him re-namer Steve?

Kopite

Sigh, seed politics. And you wonder why I tend to only grow seeds I made myself? I like to know the parents and backgrounds of what I grow and all the shadyness of the commercial world is just anathema to me, it's just a weed after all.

P.S. funny how NLHaze keeps showing up when the debate turns to excellent old cuts.

I'd really like to sit here and debate some guy, who has absolutely no idea of the situation, the selection process, who was involved, who wasn't, what clones were used (Kash if you'd done your homework you would know that the pollen donors included were selected by me and that neither of these hybrids are a 1:1 mating...sorry to disappoint you).

Not to mention, you've already stated publicly that you are holding an axe to grind over something I wrote to you what 5+ years ago now.. so I find your agenda questionable. To put it succinctly, your comments are spurious at best, and hold zero in terms of internally consistent logic.

Either way, I've had an extremely tough day today finding out my 10 year old companion, the smartest and kindest dog I have ever known, is on his last legs. I've just found out in the last hour that he's bleeding internally and we're awaiting the results from tests to determine if he has cancer or not, and if we will have to put him down tomorrow. I'm gutted, destroyed, to say the least.

So with that said, today is not a day I'd like to explain to you the the ins and outs of a situation that you are simply not privy to. Why you would feel you the need to speak about a situation, you clearly no nothing about, is simply beyond me... but then again, this is the internet and haters and other miscreants abound perpetually.

Perhaps in retrospect I should have used the term 'produced', instead of created... mind you I think I was pretty clear in stating that 'I created the seeds'.. your parsed quote only reveals you own ulterior agenda, and desire to muddy the waters.

The GF X BB is certainly not created from landrace scratch, nor was it ever claimed to be... at least not by me. What lies other people have fed you, I am not sure.... and from JKP's post it's clear that lies have been told to further individual financial motives. I can only suggest to you that the seed business may not be what you think it is, with certain players being more interested in creating legends for and of themselves, rather than being honest about the selection process behind their products, and their involvement in the creation/production thereof.

The Blueberry has some very positive traits- the most valuable being it's isolation from the 'Dutch' cannabis genepool. This genetic distance is the reason for the heterosis we see in blueberry hybrids, and I would suggest to you that genetic distance is greatly responsible for the performance of the best hybrids and seed lines that have been created since Nevil's early days working hybridizing cannabis, rather than any personal actions any of us can claim as breeders.

I have lots of blueberry seeds and would be more than willing to provide Nevil or Shanti as many as they would like, if the Blueberry line is something they care to look at. I have no doubt some very special specimens would be found when hybridized to some of the 'early', un-hybridized parental stock they hold. In fact these potential hybrids would be an extremely useful tool to use to backcross to the Blueberry lines, to import much needed genetic diversity in this clearly inbred line.... which was the whole point of my blueberry joint projects to begin with. Since Nevil and Shanti's pool is relatively narrow speaking (as is the current Global Cannabis Genepool), in terms of an overall 'snapshot' of the genetic pools from which they were derived, that this isolated population in fact holds much value to the future of cannabis in terms of hybridizing potential with the best lines/spcimens

I plan to continue to create these tools for future breeders to work with, no matter what people who weren't there, and just don't know, choose to say about them. It's certainly not about me, or us, but how we comport ourselves with respect to the cannabis genepool and what we leave as genetic resources for future breeders to work with. If anything, Blueberry et al should be seen as a lesson for what can happen with excessive inbreeding with low population numbers, in an outcrossing species.

very sad about your dog, Chimera.
I lost the best pet I every had late this summer. My cat, constant companion, just disappeared one evening--he got out of the house and *poof*. It was so painful, still is.

@Chimera

First, very sorry to hear about your dog. Such a shame. Dogs are sacred.

Second, what you say below is great. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

This answers all my BB questions.

I'm glad to see the man Chimera stopped by to chime in. Sorry to hear bout your dog Chimera, nothing worse than one of your pets in pain, and unless you're a pet owner you just wouldn't understand. As long as you keep working lines, I'll keep growing em Chimera!

My best friends :( I literally cried when I read your post :( Sorry man, life sucks sometimes.

Hi Hempy,
It sounds like you're saying when Steve was in the game, he was near the top of the field and everyone loved his gear and wanted to be his friend. But when he stopped selling seed, everyone has turned their back on him and now he was never anybody to begin with! If so, I would have to agree thats one angle to view the prism of truth.

When I look out at the field of play known as the cannabis forums, there are only a small handful of posters who I can identify as being true veterans who have stuck it out over the last decade plus. Whether or not you like these individuals has little to do with the fact guys like Rezdog and Subcool are legitimate "old timer" veterans of the forums and have went from average, everyday posters just you, me and every other ordinary joe reading this out there to individuals who are considered players in the industry today. But before Rezdog and Subcool were winning breeding awards and writing for High Times, guys like Breeder Steve were top of the heap.

There was once a time when there were not 45 seed bank nobody has ever heard of dominating the seed merchant web pages. There was a much smaller group of "unknown" seed banks, with the industry heavy weights such as The Flying Dutchmen, Sensi, Paradise Seeds, The Green House Seed Company etc. were much more in demand then what we currently see at Icmag.com for example which is a website I mention only because its perhaps the largest online cannabis community today. As I will get to later, this is not a coincidence.

Before Icmag.com was even a reality, there was Overgrow.com. This website at his height was overwhelmed with members posting consistently. Icmag today is still nowhere near as large as OG was at its height. OG was ultimately acquired, along with Cannabisworld.com, by a man named R.C. who ran Heavens Stairway Seed Bank. Heavens Stairway at one time, for quite awhile there, was THE place for everyone to go and get seed. Ultimately it was R.C. who is responsible for the current state of seed merchants as we know it, as R.C. ultimately realized he could make much more money by focusing his business model not on the big shots in the industry who demands a set, X amount of money per pack sold but by promoting, via Overgrow.com and Cannabisworld.com, the guys who were itching to get their names in the seed industry from the cannabis boards themselves.

These people could produce seed, sold at the same prices as the big shots in the industry, only their pecentage of the cut was far less compared to the Dutch heavy weight seed merchants and thus R.C. could pocket more money! So enter the dawn of a new era in the cannabis community, R.C. is raided by the RCMP and Overgrow.com, cannabisworld, Heavens Stairway and god knows what else were all shut down. That left Gypsy, R.C.'s main competitor to move into the dominant position of seed merchant (seedsdirect then and now seedboutique) which, much like with Overgrow.com and Cannabisworld.com, is a business supported by propaganda advertised in various forms at Icmag.com (Gypsy's website).

Now we have thousands of posters, who have spent years at Icmag.com, the only forum of its kind that they know through their lack of experience believing posters who were once ordinary men are now cannabis gods based on propaganda waged simply to increase seed sales! The best breeders in the world... never mind they havent left their mothers basement yet! lol

I've never posted on this wonderful site but the blueberry thread has me extremely curious as to Nevile's thoughts on the line
I personally think the buzz is magical in all aspects-the strains being bread today seem to try to force the smoker into a drunken stupor
Spiritual buzzes and easy access to them are whats missing most from the smoking culture imo

Spiritual buzzes and easy access to them are whats missing most from the smoking culture imo

well said...One of my favorite plants I have ever grown was a BB that I found in some F2's of DJ's seed stock...the euphoria and just flat out spiritual soothing provided by this girl was magical, and unlike anything I have experienced since.

Inbreeding depression is a major problem with the blue lines these days...but some winners are to be found in this cross, if you look.

If I were capable of large scale breeding projects, my goal would be to recreate the initial cross of OPT x HOG x Afg, and then work from there.

Sorry for your dog Chimera. I was 12 years old when a car hit my dog and it literally died on my hands.
Not a pleasant memory.
