Rooting out pots before flower, how important

Evening all, I'm sitting here contemplating how long I should let my current grow veg before flowering. I have just potted up the last ones now in to 3.5 and 3 litre pots, I've always waited till the plants have rooted out each pot until I made it to 11litres, then I would flower.

Should I wait until they root out the 3's and then into the 11's and flower or would that affect the overall yield ?

I've always thought that root mass does have an affect of yield, what are you opinions ? this is only my third grow and want to make sure that for the time I put in that the end product is going to be the best it can be...

Cheers

I've mostly read people advising that the rootball should fill the pot before flowering because roots don't develop after flowering.

Well, they do grow for a couple of weeks during the rapid growth stage, as I have seen it myself.

It might depend on whether the plant is fully mature (alternating nodes) as to how much growth there is after flowering starts. Also might be strain dependent.

If you have a couple of plants you could run one one way and one the other and see for yourself.

Hi UncleElroy, anytime im transplanting before flower it always gets done 2 weeks before so that will give the roots a chance to take to the new soil or coco, I transplanted once when I just put something into flower and the new roots did not really take to the new coco, so it was a waste of coco really, 2 weeks before flower is always a good time to transplant at a very minimum, dont know if thats any help, gl UncleElroy.

edit, UE you would be surprised how big you can grow a plant before you need to transplant, I always wait untill the roots are coming out the bottom of my pot before i decide to transplant, I have 3 very very big plants that were just transplanted into bigger posts but the posts they were in were not that big, the only reason I transplanted is they were drinking far to quickly for the posts they were in, now its just once a day they get fed because of the pot size, before it was about 3-4 times a day, m8 I have plants in flower just now that are bigger than me and the pot size is not very big at all, its the sssdh thread, in pretty sure I took pics of the pot size, not very big at all m8. I only transplant when needed, usually when the plant is getting to big for the pot its in.

Thanks lads it confirms what I was thinking its best to let em root out the pots before flowering, once they are ready I'll flower em an extra coupld of days aint gonna hurt.

Thanks for the input guys
