Mango Haze seedlings

Hello guys, it's my first time posting here and I have just started some Mango Haze beans that I purchased off of SBay a few weeks ago. I had only started 6 seeds because I currently have some other projects going on at the moment. The beans went 6 for 6 germing but were very, very, slow to start. So far 4 of the 6 are going strong but the other 2 are suffering badly. I believe 1 of the 2 will not make it at all and the other one only has about a 25% chance of survival. The seeds took about 72 hrs to germinate by paper towel method. I'm sure this may have been quicker had I placed them in the refrigerator for a week or 2 before trying to germinate. Instead, I was so anxious, I started germing them as soon as they arrived in the mail.
I was going to show some pics but the file size is too large. I guess I'll have to resize and post later.

Sorry but if you go to my gallery you will see the seedling pics as well as 2 MasterKush x Skunk ladies 4 weeks into flowering.

Hi mrfiskars,

Sirst of all welcome to the mns forums :)

If the seeds germinated within 72 hrs this means that they most probably are ok as far as their age and storage conditions are concerned . I don't really know why they are growing slowly and struggle to survive but I believe its due to oversaturated medium/soil which is also 'packed down' and doesnt allow for enough oxygen-root aeration.

In the above pic of yours (I pressume these are MangoHaze)
, I can see the medium is being really overwatered and stays saturated for longer than it should..green algae is growing on the top layer of the soil. This means that the roots may be experiencing problems by the constantly saturated medium and lack of oxygen.

I suggest you carefully remove the top layer of the soil with the green algae and let the soil dry completely before you water again. The roots grow more/faster when they soil is almost completely dry. So be careful with the watering cycles overwatering can cause many serious problems. It also may cause the soil to pack down and then things get even worse as not only the soil stays wet for longer than it should but the lack of oxygen in the soil is starting to cause problems to the rootzone.

Adding extra perlite to the mix always helps , 30-40% is always good for root aeration in my opinion.

Tell us few more details about your grow (i.e. soil mix , feeding , lights , temps , air circulation and ventilation etc etc) , that might give a clearer picture so we may locate the source to the problem of slow growth.

Your MKxSK look great by the way!You are growing them very nice.

Hey L33t, thanks for the response. After the seeds germinated I placed them in Rapid Rooters up until 4 days ago. It was 4 days ago that they were transplanted into my soiless medium (Promix HP) I will admit they are overwatered but I want to make sure they have too much instead of not enough until more rooting has developed.
Actually I am not too concerned about the plants in my gallery, it's the 2 seedlings that I didn't post. I promise the plants shown will be dialed in by the end of next week.
The details about my grow are a long story. Here it goes. I had 2 1000 watters, and one 600 watter along with CO2 injection. Well two weeks ago my 4.5 yr old Sunsystems 1000 watter quit on me. I called them, asked about their warranty and they said it was covered. They sent me some shipping information, I brought it too FedX and it was shipped out to be repaired in Tenessee. It has been repaired but I have yet to receive it back. I called their office and they said was sent out on Friday. It should be in by the end of the week. The day after that my homemade 1000 watter quit on me. I took it to the local hydro shop and he said it couldn't be repaired and wanted $200.00 for a bare bones hps ballast kit. I knew they were trying to rip me off since I've seen them on the net for $100.00, so I declined the repair. I then decided that I wanted more coverage and a little savings on the electrical bill, so I purchased a 400 watt hps system w/cool tube reflector. The new CMH bulb has also caught my eye so I ordered one but have yet to receive it. It should be here by Tuesday. I switched the reflector that was hooked up to the home made 1000watter and wired it to my 600 watt ballast. That 600 watt hps bulb was 3 or 4 years old and not very brilliant so I ordered a new one over the net, and it too should also be here by the middle of the week.
Currently, 4 weeks flowering, I have 1 Sweet Blue, 2 Mountain high seeds freebies, and 1 MK x SK under my 600 watter, and 1 MK x SK and 2 High Ends under the 400 watter.
Last week I germed a pack of Swiss Bliss that I got at the beginning of Jan and they went 0 for 10, so I ordered the Mango Haze. I germed 6 of them and since it looks like only 4 will survive I decided to try the Skunkman freebies that I received with the MH. So far 3 out of 5 Thai Haze x Skunk have germed.
For ferts, I am just finishing up my 3 part Advanced Nutrients with Carboload and Big Bud. I will be switching to Flora Nova Bloom using the Lucas formula for the Mango Haze. Thus far they have yet to be fertilized.
Because all my lights arent up and running my temps are running a little cool. Daytime 70 degrees f and 60 degrees f night. I have an oscillating fan blowing 24/7 on the plants. Humidity is at 50%.
Believe it or not, I am not a rookie grower, I have just had some real bad luck as of late. I could go on and on more than I already have but will spare you the boredom.
All my claims will be substantiated with pics in the weeks to come. Pull up a chair and come along for the ride. I promise it will be quite a journey.

Stay tuned,
Fiskars

p.s. I have some more pics of my grow posted over at IC if you would like to view them.

Hi again mrfiskars

Thanks for sharing the details about the setup.

I will admit they are overwatered but I want to make sure they have too much instead of not enough until more rooting has developed.

Personally I think 'too much' is as dangerous as 'too little' . I say this cause I had some bad experience with overwatering when I started growing and noticed that packed down soil and constantly saturated medium is a bad combination that can be responsible for many problems . Plants like to have a good dry period before they are watered again. Especially when they are small. I only mentioned this as you said you experienced some slow growth and I believe that was the cause to that.

Looking forward to the updates.

I checked the other pics over Ic mag , the plants look very nice.Keep the pics comming and welcome again! :)

Hey guys, just an update on my plants. They have been flowering under a 400 CMH for 12 days now and have gone from between 2 and 4 inches to 12 to 16 inches. The seedling that I was concerned about managed to pull through with a lot of TLC. They have been fed once with Flora Nova Bloom @ 1 tsp/gallon. I started them on a 12/12 light schedule but changed to 11/13.

Well, let's see if this works. Plants were flowered at 4 inches and finished at approximately 4.5 feet. 5 out of 6 germed and 2 were female. This female got the chop at exactly 70 days flowering. She was fed Flora Nova Bloom at 6ml/gallon with Carboload and Silica added under a 1000 watter.

Hi mrfiskars
Nice flowers and nice pics too :)
very nice result man. Looking forward to the smoke report.

Thanks L33t. Yeah, she turned out pretty good. The other female I have is very ugly and low yielding. I should have culled her but decided against it. I'll post pics when she's done. Probably another couple weeks.
I'm currently trying to reveg this fine lady. She has been under 24 hrs of light for 9 days now, no new growth yet.
Next time around I think I'll try to LST her. We'll have to wait and see what happens!

Peace,
Fiskars
