Grover's Cut

This is my cut of Mango Haze. I selected it from just 1 pack (9 females.) It should have been from 2 packs but Cola fucked up the other pack (Yo Cola!) so we only ended up selecting from 2 real 'Mango Pheno' females.

I selected this one because she smells like over-ripe mangoes and she has resin covering her whole body from about day 4 of flowering. I have mentioned this before but maybe some of you doubted her true potential - check out the photo below. I am not the greatest photographer (come on L33t - when are you going to do a "photographer's tips" thread? hardware, techniques, lighting, close-ups, etc) but you can clearly see that this girl has only been flowering for a few days yet check out the stem for resin encrustation!

Cola thinks she is feathery and lightweight, maybe he is right, let's see... Should this matter? Could we do better? Should we try another couple of packs and find a few more 'Mango pheno' girls to give competition to this one? or is this the one? Maybe Neville's Haze/Mango will be a pack full of this kind of pheno and we should try that instead.....

Any input would be appreciated.

so, as you can see, she has been chosen for her resin (and aroma but you won't see that,) not her yield, structure or speed!

Hey JKP - if you are reading this, let me know what you think of her. How is she going for you? Don't veg her too much!!!!!!

Hey Grover Sativa :)

Your mango keeper lady is really frosty indeed, always nice to see sativa plants that are so trichome covered even on the leaves , from that early on! Do you have any pics from her in the last stages before harvest ?
By the way how is her smoke like , and how is the effect compared to other nice mango plants' smokes that you found ?

Regarding selection , we all have different criteria when deciding what to keep and what to kill , so its more or less a personal taste thing and its all about what qualities in a plant you feel are important. Different people have different tastes , gardens and priorities.. For instance me and other people went with the more peppery/hazy/incense-like phenos of MH , while others like you may prefer the more fruity/mango scented ones , its all about personal preference really..and only you know what you like best.. Resin production surely can be used for plant selection but resin production and potency do not always go together so this is something to also consider when you select plants for headstash.I personally select personal-smoke plants by judging the final product effects(high) and secondary criteria are taste and smell..of course after a good cure. I 'm not really interested in a fast or very practical high yielding plant if the effects I 'm after are not there. Plant selection can be a hard thing to do and working with a great line like MH that produces so many good plants, selection can be even more difficult. If you like a certain plant for its qualities then its a good plant for you and nothing else matters really. Set your priorities and have a clear target in your mind what in you are really after, trust your senses and..keep backup clones of everything until you fell you are certain about your choice.

If you don't mind growing plants that can go up to 13-15weeks try the NHxMH but if you look for faster/ more practical plants grow some more Mango Haze plants , there are real gems in the MH line that dont really pop up as frequently as others the more you grow the more the chances of getting such plants. Like Shanti has said in the past its not really fair to judge a line (esp a haze hybrid) without growing at least a handfull of seeds (~50seeds). Mango Haze is one of the best and practical haze hybrids. There are killer plants that do not take too long to finish.

As for a photography tips thread, I had posted a thread with some info here but it is mostly about closeup/macro photography , if you are interested in such sort of thing run a search here but if you need any other help or advise on cams ,equipment , techniques feel free to drop me a pm and will do my best to help you out.

:)

...So I fucked up a packet of Mango...Done that a few times b4:rolleyes:...

So heres the score...Big Head is nice smoke, yeah great!... it is...see my smoke report on that thread...but it aint fuckin brilliant...so it AINT a keeper...this one is a little untested (by me amongst others) so lets hang the jury...but if pretest tests are anything to go by (some has been consumed, but not much and not five star)...its pretty good

Big Head Mumma

not strong enough
not full flavoured enough

100 days omg! I can't imagine the quality they must have. Wow I see the resin and I know that its bearly visable with the camera and light, but I know in person that they must be gleaming.:D

It looks like the archetypal sativa grover.:) Perhaps with some time and expeirimentaion you can push the yeilds up.

From everything I've seen on MH they dont look like tremendous yeilders. I think that the strain's whole purpose is quality. Where as SSH can be a more commercial like strain, MH is all quality.

As someone who never grows hazes but would like to, your pheno is something that I'd be looking for it just looks so quintessentially hazy. I'd love to get a whiff of those.;)

BTW, even if they dont appear to be gigantic yeilders the buds look nice and chunky, no whispy buds. Top notch.

Hey L33t

Thanks for the offer of some tips, I will take you up on that at some point soon, I hope.

This MH does remind me of the SSH in some ways, especially when you talk about comparing phenos. You know how the indica phenos of the SSH can REALLY yield high but are not as strong as the sativa phenos, psychoactively? The EXACT same can be said for the Mango Haze.

The Northern Lights pheno, for me anyway, tasted superb. Northern all the way. No real fruit, though. The high was hypnotic, smooth as the smoke and very pleasant vibes. Lovely central cola, great yield but not really killer strength. For me it fell down the gap between indica and sativa. Too fluffy and not enough kick for an indica, too hypnotic and not enough electric for a sativa...

The skunk phenos, as you know, are too tall to be practical skunk plants. They do have the fruitiness and frostiness but the smell doesn't compare to the sativa phenos and the yield doesn't compare to the Northern Lights pheno. Nice but not a keeper for me. Again, it falls between the gaps only this time between a kick-arse skunk and a sativa. Too little of one and too much of the other and vice-versa.

My peppery pheno (Big Head Mumma), if I'm honest, was a little fucked up. All my own fault. I followed the manufacturer's table for the N feed but it was WAY too high and the buds had dark green 'rams horn' leaves between the calyxes- and far too many of them. This ruined the taste and high, really. The yield was HUGE but despite not growing her to her potential, I still maintain that the flavour and aroma don't compare to 'Grover's Cut'.

My first grow of her, for one reason or another, didn't get her anywhere near her potential. This description is more of the current cutting than my memory of the original one. This time I've got it much better so far. It feels like I'm discovering her all over again! She is even more alluring this time, without doubt. Most descriptions are of the aroma. I will come back to flavour more when she is done and cured.

As she matures the solid over-ripe mango smell is mellowing down to a strong just-ripe mango undertone but with definite (and not at all subtle) vanilla notes - almost a Creme caramel overtone. It's like tinned peaches and custard. Just so alluring. Honestly. It is so compelling. It's hard to know which smell would be better between this and the Critical Haze - but not that hard. No matter how nice the Critical Haze tastes and smells, this is better. It doesn't overpower the other plants in the room but you just keep coming back to this one for another sniff.

I've smoked a fair bit of Mango in the 'Dam and in England and it has always been quite peppery. To be honest, I kind of wondered why Shanti called it 'Mango' Haze. This is only my second grow of the Mango but I'm not wondering at all about the name anymore. You were so right about the fruit frosty indicas being inferior to the peppery sativas for high but you've just gotta try this one. Her aromas are truly superior to the other phenos.

The high - to be honest, when weed tastes and smells this good, who cares about the high?

Still, luckily for us she doesn't disappoint there either. Do you remember the old Andrex Toilet Tissue advert? "Soft, strong and very very long." It could have been penned for this sativa.

You know as soon as you've exhaled that you're smoking strong weed yet lift off isn't for another 40 minutes, by which time, due to the flavour, you'll probably have smoked another half gram anyway.

When the high does hit it is clear and kind but there is a little body, a little eyes. It is very strong and lasts a long long time. True sativa quality. As you know, all Mango leaves you feeling very happy and satisfied, sometimes euphoric. This baby has just a little electric to add to the mix- a kind of take your breath away exhilaration - but not in the Nev's Haze psychedelic way - more of a 'Fuck Me that's good' thang. She is also a lot more noticeable than the NL and SK phenos - there is no searching for this high. Strong and extremely pleasurable. It is, none-the-less very possible to smoke too much of this stuff. Just like the SSH, she will send you to bed eventually.

I'm no expert, I think you have had more runs with this variety than me. I do think you would just love this one, though. She has the high of the peppery sativas but with a fantastic aroma usually associated with modern indicas coming out of the West Coast of America. There is an amazing resin production and an aromatic 'punch' coupled with a breathtaking, clear and very strong anti-depressive high that makes this more of a 'medicine for happiness' than a 'daytime smoke'

I think you would love this one, L33t, from reading some of your posts I think she is your type of plant.

Of course it is all at a price.

She takes an age to even start to flower (even from cutting) and she isn't fast once she starts. I know the buds are a little feathery but they actually grow very large (pics to follow) and each calyx does fill out into a chunky little lump of resin covered green. The yields end up pretty good, eventually.

So she starts slow, the main flower is slow and guess what - she finishes slow too!

Very stretchy and army. Twisty and bendy - you know the type. A joy for lovers of sativas and a real enigma to tent growers, SOGgers and indica specialists! Beginners? Maybe not...brave ones only! Still, I think everyone would enjoy the smoke at some point in their week.

Take Care

GS

Hey Gert, old fellow

Nice to hear your interest in the Mango has been perked.

As you are an experienced grower, you would have no problem with this girl. Patience is the only problem but you would enjoy having her in your garden so it is not so bad. I know indica plants smell good, strong and fruity but only sativas have 'perfume' - if you know what I mean...;)

You're right, I haven't got this girl quite 'dialled in' yet. First time too much N and had to finish her too early and not in perfect conditions.

This time I think I could have used a more P and K and I haven't used the HALO on her yet, either and I love that stuff, usually.

Also, maybe carb loading would work as she has a good strong stem to take it all in.

First time round I had her in 35 litres, this time 55 litres. Not sure yet which is better. Next time I'll try one of each, side by side. Cola may try smaller ones but to get any kind of yield on this girl she'll need lots of branches - no seas of green here, I'm afraid. A few cuts have already made it out of the door, so hopefully any fellow growers will offer their own advice about how to get the best out of her - I think she's got a LOT to offer, once she's been worked out - with some very obviously positive traits already, like her aroma, resin and long-lasting high. She needs testing properly before things like paranoia / raciness / mold tolerance, etc become really known but so far so very good. I'll be sticking with her a while yet..

Despite the fruity/vanilla smell, this is a true haze. Genetically she's 50% but she shows a lot more than that in her phenotypic characteristics, I think.

Like you say, archetypal sativa. You WOULD love her aromas. We'll smoke her next time I'm in the Dam.

Good fucking report bro...

Mr. Cutt...

Thank you for taking the time to discuss your experinece with her. I am peeked too.

Peace

What's up GS,

She looks great! Finally some pics of the Mango up, been waiting to check her out.
You know I know nothing of this strains but looks like your doing ah good job.
The truth awaits in the cure!D

Peace man,
Smoke

Indeed, Mr SD.

We shall see...second time around is always better!

Thanks for the props, though.

Gert - it's more like about 85 days. I count days from the moment a clone went into 12/12 (as opposed to seedlings which I count from the day I first saw a flower.) That way I always know, to the day, when a clone will be finished as I count from the first day of flip and can't get it wrong. It's always a bit of a judgement call deciding which is the 'first day' of flowering, especially with sativas... sorry for the confusion, it's my fault - still that's saved you a couple of weeks when you get to grow this baby...;)

So maybe the first 2/3 weeks are stretch and grow, the next week is grow/flower and the following 8 will be flowering. Which makes 11/12 weeks (depending on your light cycle 11/13 hr ; 12/12 hr even 10/14 hr will have different effects also depending on the darkness of your night cycle -it may start a little quicker with the pitchest of blacks and, of course, when you prefer to harvest - I always gave the SSH a little extra time maybe I will do the same with the Mango, who knows?)

Hey ResinBud - thanks for the SP, dude..

hey guys,

well I took l33t's advice and started two off instead of one...and put them into flower just repotted into 11 litre pots (also known as l33ts)...
theyve been in the flower room for about a week, have grown, but in noway are starting to bud...

Ill repot them when they are bigger, I cant stand to see my babies budding in small pots...I'm sure its harder to get healthy plants in smaller pots...? just from like growing tomatoes an stuff... more soil equals bigger healthier plants

The other one I have is like...7ft, like an octopuss - an most of the fan leaves driedup and fell off...Grover told me not to feed in the initial stages of budding, I thnk you do need to a little...just not much say like 1ml per litres of n based fert instead of maybe 2 or something...lol my plants dying lol still, got some nice bud on it though

the bud is like really firm and crystally...like really dense or something...its fluffy and dense at the same time lol:)

well I like it anyway...

cb:)

yeah, sorry about that Cola! We'll know better for the next run. It's all about experience. I still say easy on the N but maybe not SO easy at the start of flowering!

Hey JKP - how are you finding the Mango? or are you not running her yet?

It's always hard to know exactly what is making your plants really go for it and what is just ballast sometimes but every time I use Halo as a foliar feed I end up with fantastic colas. You only need use it 2 or 3 times per crop. Maybe it is just the foliar feeding of micro-nutrients that is really helping and not the Harpins but who knows? Once I've got this Mango dialled in I'll run 2 clones side by side and use Halo on one and not the other then we'll see if it makes any difference...

I hope your well. When's the op?

haha nice.

3 weeks ago is lost in the fog for me! I was still taking the opiates then... I remember the PM but didn't realise you actually HAD the op! I may have to read all my PMs from that period...fuck knows what else I missed!!!

lol! that's funny and a little embarrassing. Believe me, my brain is MUCH clearer now.

So hernia is cured...does that mean IBS is better, too? or are they not connected...?

How's being off the dp tabs going? I am finding that smoking the Mango Haze is perfect for depression. I feel so happy and smiley and I laugh at the most stupid things. Cola and I had a great giggle fest the other day after a few bongs each. Can't even remember what it was about!
Wouldn't it be great if you found the Mango to work better than the pills?
You reckon coming off them was a bad move? Or the tabs themselves were a bad move? Did you ever try swimming? It's great for depression.

I hope you are well.
