Grail: The Ultimate Haze Hybrid

one question that pops up in my mind if nevil felt the need to put that f1 NH in that statement, is what is the difference to the current NH?

why would nevil need to crack 15 year old seed instead of getting fresh seed from shanti?
something sounds fishy (smells?) but it might be innocent.

It is interesting

But IMO i think it has more to do with knowing he worked the stock an having his hand on it , he surely worked toward what he desired .Meaning he grew out the parents from seed he would know exactly what to look for

But i was thinkin you might have started the post with somthin like ohh herb now i see what you were saying ;)

well, thats what hempy and I may be confused about.
were you stating the reason nevil used NH over nl5xHzC, simply because its better and more pure relating to haze?

or that there is a difference between the NH that nev had his hands on and the NH that is currently available?
Because the parents should be the exact same, the same plants nevil worked, there should be no difference in seeds produced from them, right? even 20 years later?

At the very least, it does make for some good symmetry The Haze beans were popped in the mid 80s after a 15ish year wait inside a plastic baggie...

I worry about things like genetic drift in cuttings. I have seen a lot of cuttings fade to pale shadows of their former selves over time. I don't have evidence that this effects the progeny, but if I can avoid the risk, I will. I know that '97 batch well, no problem there, I made them myself.
Sometimes, mistakes are forever.

hope this helps:)

Nevil actually answered this same question in one of his posts.
He said he wanted to use this seed because it was the last batch of seed He Made personally...
I can understand why too,if you want something to be called your own, then it best come from "your own work"
Ya think?

hey guys im not sure what all the confusion is about.

as blackberry posted nevil already explaned why he was using 97 stock. he was worried about genetic drift so simply has used the stock hes most confidant in.

as for the nl5 x haze,

do not confuse the current offerings with the original, the nl5 used today is a new selection from the same stock the original came from.

nl5Hc is nothing close to the best haze these guys have. nevil called it the best hybrid, super silver haze was an attempt to reproduce it but was never as good as the original.

nevils haze and the grail are different things altogether.

cheers

yeah, im sure i read that before, just wasnt important to me at the time. and its perfectly reasonable. the "sometimes mistakes are forever" is a bit cryptic, however.

as far as super silver haze an attempt to recreate nl5 x HzC, i dont get what your saying.

Banana tree

We made the seed for this plant over 4 years ago. Not really sure what it is due to the vague labeling. May be Snow, we dont know

The labeling did suggest it was top quality genetics.

I love making Haze/ Kush and Haze/ Indica Hybrids

jack ive read nev post that somewere. the original nl5Hc that nevil was talking about is a clone, i bit hard to sell, so he tried to recreate that clone in seed form hiting the original clone with a Hc x sk1 dad.

nevil also said it wasnt as good as the original. i think with most elite clones you can only attempt to make it as good or better than the original parent, these is no guarantee.

i think its just rarely known, ssh is a strain on its own and the original intentions are irrelevant in this day.

drpurper i love mysteries i found some seeds neatly stashed seeds under a bed i assume the smoke must have special so i saved the seeds well they didnt get there by accident.

im been meaning to ask you about the mystery haze, do you think it could be from the golden tiger x nevils haze seeds you lost?

thanks bushweed and kanga thats what were all here for.

cheers

I smoked some with my Son, and We both think it is Nevils Haze. I found two seeds in the trim from it today, when I was making kief.

It made real nice Kief.
I loaded the bong half full of LavenderLights, then sprinkled Nevilles Haze Kief, and LA Confidential kief on top. Im trippin :D

nice doc, dont worry ive got some nevs haze stashed safely i have special plans for these seeds. i'll have to get some more as well, but i think i'll occupy myself with ssh and mango before the nevils leaves the fridge.

bush and kanga i was just thinking, 'them gonna be some big plants'

cheers

No.122, the one Shanti dubbed the Mango, came after years of searching, a tireless quest on my part. Aspiring growers often came to me and I regularly made them start with 5Hz seed. There are a few cuts around from those exploits, but they weren't as good as 1 and 122. But almost. As I said before, there's not a sea of difference between the best out of 50 and the best out of 1000. But there is a difference for the most discerning.

Northern Lights 5 crossed with Haze male C. Is the best Indica / Sativa hybrid that I've ever done. HzA male to NL5 was also excellent and was the mother of N.H. The HzC was a complex sweet aroma, while HzA produced plants with a leathery smell, more reminisent of the old Thai's.
Complex liver/ leather smell is what I'm looking for in a good Thai descenant to cross with the Haze.

Hi Jack,
With all respect to you my friend, all (original) Neville's Haze seeds are by definition F1s.
The strain is "built" at MNS by combining 2 discrete parents, Nl5/HazeA x HazeC.
Nev has chosen to start with a batch of these that he did himself back in the day.
Why not?
What other Neville's Haze seeds would you recommend?
The parents are the same, then and now.

Superimposing speculation of motive over this mundane bit of operational detail is not worthy of this discussion.
