female Seed verse Reugular Seed flower shots...

Hi All

I am currently researching an article for my own use. It is roughly about showing female flowers from both female seed and regular true bred seed. If anyone has something interesting to contribute it would be great.

I know it is possible to get good flowers from both. But my question to most of you is do you know the source of the clones you get? Are they regular seed selection or other? Things like this would be helpful to read about for all growers since it is easy to bad mouth things but with pictorial evidence it is evident or not!

So thank you in advance and look forward to seeing what you got installed....SB

i would like to see the difference. in my opinion fem seeds are less potent than regulars but easier to grow. i`m moving away from fem and cuts and just going for reg seeds and picking what pheno i want as a mother plant.i think in the next few years there is going to be a rise in sales on reg seeds and alot of f1 and f2 seeds available. it would save hobby breeders alot of time if more f1 and f2 crosses were available. so me personally would go for reg seeds.hemaphrodite is a big issue withe fems. jst my 2 cents

If I need seeds but cant find him to purchase or just simple my friend
have wish to send me some beans ,yes I ask for source and genetics line.
Sometime I reject seeds if is about Ruderalis genetic line or some of parents show hermies in the past.

I grow regular seeds but I did fem seeds too.
Obviously difference exist in plant body structure, vigorous and sensitivity
on grow conditions. This is more obvious if you grow them outside, where
plant can show you her full size, max yield and how much is sensitive on
weather changes.I didnt find so big difference in the potency.Even regular
seeds/plants from same pack have different taste or potency or color.

Freely can say to fem seeds can't replace same variety who is not feminized but
fem seed made short way without selection about and they save space.
Especially outside.
Like any other short way in the life there come and some risk.In this case its
risk of hermies who come from bad try of feminization or cause sensitivity on grow conditions.

Always is better to pick an mom so there is always fem plants/cuts.
I can say there is just couple "companies" who know to made fem seeds, all
other buy fem seeds or have very very bad way of feminisation.
90% of offers of fem seeds is pure Bull Shit.

What I would like to know about feminized seeds is, once you force a true breeding female to produce seeds do the seeds it produce now have a new gene which will make that generation more susceptible to going hermi, or does it trigger a gene that is already there? I know a lot of growers, and unfortunately just a few breeders believe that feminizing will alter/adjust the genetics so they are more susceptible to going hermi, but is there any evidence to back this up?

Another thing I see is some breeders feminizing so called 'Elite clones' to create a seed line for a big profit, but surely the seeds created will show major variations and have lots of mixed up genes from the previous generations before the S1, Am I correct? I also see that some breeders are having a little trouble selfing these 'elites' as they already have a tendency to hermi:eek:, is this why you won't work with feminized seeds SB?

Regards

I have tried a few strains of feminised seeds when they first began to hit the market, all from trades for cuts and seeds from my stock. I did have some hermie problems late in flowering, but nothing significant. The clones however were a hermie mess, and they were grown under exact same conditions as the mothers they came from. I had also tried to make seed, however for some reason they seemed sterile, they would not produce seeds. They formed the clusters of pods and all, but never fully developed any seeds, just empty oddly shaped pods. I am inclined to think maybe they are incapable producing viable seeds. So I just wrote off trying to produce seed from them.

IMHO they are vigorous growers, however they seem to lack the luster and intense deep green of the true lines. The flowers fill out good, but again, seem to lack that luster I look for in a good line strain. Even my inbred true lines have a deep green kind of glow, which I did not find in female seeds. I too have found them to seem less potent. Nice flavor and scent, but lack a little in potency from my experiences.

Hello Shantibaba ,
It is cool when you start a good thread like this,
maybe we all can give and get some insight to this
blessing/curse that is Feminised Breeding.
I have never purchased or recieved any feminised seed,
but on occasion, when I have a super potent flowering female.
I can manage to produce one or two small pollen flowers on an isolated branch.
By a combination of over clocking
{taking plant past harvest}
and isolated stress
{tie a small wire around the selected branch and apply pressure}
when this occurs I will carefully collect the pollen on a small model paint brush or a cotton swab and immediately transfer it to my selected female.
if this produces a viable seed i feel i have a true XX plant Feminised without the use of Chemicals.
Now I wont even collect a female that has pollenated herself i feel that will make off spring more prone to displaying this trait so I bury it in the poly hybrid or 3way .
I have now one female I planted from 1 of 30 seeds made from AfghanHaze#4 in my thread and Mango Haze F1 female that was a Million Dollar Baby...
I was growing her with a nevs haze and she was clocked on the nevs 14 week cycle and gave me pollen which i used on the AfghanHaze female and the nevs haze female. I have yet to try my NHMHs1.
the AH x MHs1 is outdoors and looking good man, just tipped it second time and it is very aromatic, not yet bloomed, but soon.
these resulting seeds are for me and my garden and gifts but I have always used one of three family of seed...for my parents...I have found over the years a couple males that were all that and some too.
SSSC,Seed Bank,Mr Nice in that order...
save one ...season
I did have a run with DJ Shorts stuff and i must say it was expensive and lousy results ...one plant in 20 were great so I left his stuff long ago.
that is my extent with feminised seed.
I do have a rule of thumb.
use true breeding plants males and females...
dont over look that possible one off Super Clone Only for sure...
plus it is fun to get the hands in the dirt...and learn new things

if and when she flowers I will send you a photo...

peace my friend

I was very much against feminised seeds, but there is a thread on ICMag that made me think twice about it. I think it was called "Massive Outdoor Grow" or something along those lines, and this guy is a commercial outdoor guerilla grower, big time, thousands of plants. He only uses feminised seeds, and autoflowerers. Sounds crazy, right? But he is very experienced, and does perfectly well. Feminised seed so that he doesn't have to worry about wasting time growing males or having them pollinate his sensi, while still getting that seed vigor, and autoflowerers so that he can get multiple harvests from the same plot. Since they are outdoors they have a reduced chance to hermi compared to indoor grows.

I have a friend who grew feminised seeds against all my advice last year outdoors, and I think he is growing the left over seeds again this year. I'll ask him to get a few shots if he can.

Hey guys...:D

Although I am not very proud of it, I do have some limited experience with feminised seeds. I have actively selfed clone only strains (213 OG Kush), I have grown killer bagseed (Purple Haze, Neville's Haze), and I have put feminised seeds in soil (Troublegum)...

I selfed the OG Kush just to see if it would work. I took her about 2 weeks past her prime (8-9 weeks), and she kicked out about 10-15 seeds. I gave them to another grower, and reports are the plants are doing great. I don't think they've been flowered yet, but I'll check! I have been asked to make more...

I pulled the Purple Haze seed out of a bag. Finally found Purple Haze at a random dispensary, so I purchased an 1/8 just to try it. Shit was absolutely amazing in flavor! Potency was really good too, so I smoked it oh so slowly! Towards the end of the 1/8, I came across one viable beautiful seed. Although I almost killed it several times, including dropping it on it's head 3 times, that little plant was one of the strongest things I've ever seen. When she grew up, she declared female, so I cloned her, then flowered her out. And she was amazing! The stem on the plant was strong as hell. She grew rapidly every day! The best part, aside from the finished product, was her leaves and plant structure. Although she didn't necessarily require steaking, she got even bigger when I did eventually give her a tomato cage. The blades on her fan leaves were 2 1/2-3 inches wide, and 9 inches long, no lie! The bud tasted just like the bud I'd bought 6 months prior, and critics couldn't get enough of her. In fact, some people complained that she was too strong! She only had a flowering time of 9 weeks, so I'm not sure how much Haze was in it, but she was an absolute beast of a plant!

The Neville's Haze didn't make it (not my fault). Long story short, the seed came out of a QP of medicinal grade, taking 3 full days to pop. I'd never seen anything like it, but because I knew the backstory to the strain, I waited very patiently. Once she popped, she grew rather fast, but didn't want to be fed anything. I donated her to another dispensary, which suspiciously went up in flames not too long ago. Very strange, that was! She wasn't doing too well anyway. The people I'd given her to started pumping her full of nutes, against my recommendations, and couldn't figure out why she'd actually slowed down in growth. Up until the point when I'd given her to them, she'd only gotten water and urine. Again, no lie! My feeling is that she would have been a killer plant were she alive today. I never got to try the bud that the seed came out of, but I heard it was awesome. It sold out at the dispensary in two or three days, so I'm thinking my plant would have been quite nice!

Troublegum (Troublemaker x Bubblegum) was a freebie I got with my Afghan Haze seeds, and I was not happy to get them. I don't know when companies started giving away free feminised seeds with every purchase, but I think they should give regualr seeds for those that order regular seeds. I put those seeds in soil just to see if my shipment had been compromised in any way. Once they popped, I put them in soil to see if I could notice any discernable differences between them and normal cannabis plants. IMO the plants looked and grew like normal cannabis, but never anything special. Whenever I crack normal seeds, I'm always aware that I could be staring at something unique, something nice, something no one else has. When I cracked the feminised seeds, it didn't feel the same at all. The plants just don't put off the same vibe. Nothing special. Not at all!

I know, I know. Some of you are thinking that I have to flower them out to know if they are any good or not, and for the mostpart I agree. But, I have a theory that great plants can be discovered before they flower, based on how they are performing/smell in veg, and how they are doing relative to all the other plants grown from that same strain. I like to think that I can spot potential in a plant, and those plants lack serious potential, even from a very early age!

I also tried to put some Pure Gold (more freebies) in soil as well, but out of the 3 seeds I dropped in the glass, only 1 popped and she was retarded. I imagine there are quite a few people that have this experience, and it would really piss me off if that happened with regular seed...hope this helps, Shanti...jay:)

Hi shantibaba,
here is the plant,so far she looks the part, smells of skunky afghan, vigor abounds...just about ready to flower.
AfghanHaze X *Mango Haze {*selfed female}
AfghanHaze_x_Mango_Haze_s1.JPG

will do a nice flower picture when she has done her thing.

this plant is flowering along par with the SSH f1 clone and smells so lovely...
AHxMHs1.JPG

I believe if grown in a pot with coco and hydro nutrients she would be massive,
as it is Ive had to cut her back a couple time to keep her manageable.

just an update so far.
if she keeps on like she started then a fine plant she will be.
I still have to smoke it but so far she looks and smells outstanding.
sweet fruity and floral ,very resinous.

Super Silver Haze F1{MNS}
SSH_F1_clone.JPG

both plants are in same conditions and are similar in bloom times,
the SSH hybrid vigor and breeding are showing thru well,
but the aroma of the flowers belong to the feminised plant.
this will be a real treat of a smoke test if they both finish proper.
fingers crossed.

Mr NICE Super Silver Haze F1 {clones}
SSH_f1.JPG

The SSH is a more vigorus plant and the flowers start to really get big now.
the feminised plant is sweet but slower and less heavy, much like her afghanhaze mum.

The only problems I've experienced with fem seeds is hermies. I've never done a side-by-side comparison of fem vs regular, but I've been happy with most of the fems I've grown.

I grew some fems when I first started because I didn't plan on breeding. I've since switched to only regular seeds from reputable breeders like MNS, Serious & DJS.

If you look at the top selling strains they are almost all feminized or auto flowering, so I don't think either is going away.

Hi Scorpion,

Very beautiful haze plants you have in the garden. Its nice to see how the different ladies perform in the same environment. Can you tell us a few things about the ssh F1 selected cut you run like flowering times , stretch etc.

thanks for sharing

Hey Scorp,

Ha Ha :D hempisphere ....beautiful SSH....looks like a superplant!

Please give your smoke report after all is ready for sampling ;)....it will be interesting to find out the results of your experiment compared to a standard bearer. It sounds as if you are all ready familiar with the cut you are running....anything outstanding in the "effect" dept. or is it just a great stone and massive yield?

wishing you a nice harvest,

Skunkha

hi skunkha
#9 is a great plant ,
what could be better than a heavy harvest of Columbian Gold?
her smoke is thick and spicey ,strong uplifting effect HIGH/stone
with a mellow bottom.
anyone over 40 loves it for the old school effect
and those under 40 are left breathless.
for the grower, she is a gift to behold and a joy to grow.

You talk like someone I know...hmmm :)

As far as femmed seeds...I ran a nice bunch this season that just pasted outdoors. My G-13 Labs Skunk #1 didn't germ, but the rest of mine did. I stressed them all to test them out with turning hermie and didn't have a single nanner or the hint of a nanner...and they were stressed right before flower, and a few times in flower.

I'll get some pic's up but can't list the names of the strains for security reasons of this grow...

The only momma I have which wasn't grown by me from regular seed is The Cheese. I can't know the origination of this plant. All others were selected by me. Selecting is the best thing about growing.

RE fems : I have been gifted fems by friends who go over to Amsterdam, get caught up in the vibe and get ripped by Arjan. I have learnt never to plant them. They are shite. If I was to use fems I would use Mr Nice Seedbank feminised - but they don't make 'em so I'll stick with regs!!

Last pic before the pick...
Afghan Haze x Mango Haze*
AH_x_MH_s11.JPG

this plant is aromatic at a distance,floral/fruity aroma,
grape juice sweetness on the tongue,
thick mind fog effect,
Expando Weed!!!
if one was to be offered a puff of this fine herb and was seasoned enough to know the difference,
then one could believe it to be a
Juicy Fruit Thai Pheno type...
but We all know she was born from
Afghan Haze x Mango Haze...Excellent Combination,
I bet the Mango x Afghan Haze {Angel Breath} will be even better.

Super Silver Haze clones {middle and right plant}

ok now, will do a good blind test with some old timers after a prope cure in me humidor for a few weeks...
