I'll Give it a Go.

:) In my opinion.

xxy- male flowers appear in mid to mid late flower without environmental stress (true hermie)
xx - male flowers appear after maturity (a late hermie)
xx - male flowers appear as a result of environmental stress (stressed hermie)
xx - no male flowers appear but seeds are produced (no f ing clue)

Good on you Kyle. I was going to bump this topic because the silence was deafening. Some are happy to quote other scientist's work, but stick their neck out?

Your descriptions are a good starting point. I'm happy to label the first 3, types 1,2 and 3.
Your fouth one is a description of a female, doesn't belomg in the hermie list.

Keep 'em coming!

Wrong yet agine the person i got the seeds from found 3 seeds in 1978 in a thia stick he who is a horticulturist germinated then found a male a female and a hermie he culled the hermie breed the male and female and made seed.

The seed i was given are 6 generations from 1978 inbreed best were selected and breed with.

See there is this myth spreed on the cannabis boards about thia sativas and other sativas that i have tried to dispel wich is they belive all sativas can hermi in flower and most a prone to it wich is complet bull shit.

Thias if they are going to hermie like most pure sativas will do it at sexing you get 3 types of sex a female a male a hermie once you cull the hermie the female will stay a female till harvest and a male will stay a male untill its used to polinate and you cull it or it dies.

The only females lines i ever saw throw male flowers well into flower to the end was afgani and the only time i saw male flowers in female plants not at sexing were from hybrids that agine i feel is from the afi side.

And as for selfing produceing plants like there mum thats bull shit agine unless the plant is stable to start with you will have as much veration in the s1 seed as you would with f2s the diffrence is tho in the f2s you will not loos vigor and other things males pass on fact mate.

Well, i agree with you that not all the sativa's should produce hermies, but it is well known with the Thai, although not all Thai.
Even after 6 generations it is still possible to have intersex genes but not expressed because these are not so sensitive.
When you want to be sure if the Thai is a true male or female, start an experiment by spraying some cuttings with STS and see what happens. When they react than they have intersex genes and when they don't than they are true.

Ever heard of the term Androgyne???

Namaste :)

Not true at all IMO, Why would you say that? Instead that your cutting and put them through rigerous stress testing,, Up PH high temps low temps fuck with the time period...ect. But to say that there is any plant that cannot be reversed is wrong imo..even Nevil's cut reversed it was just not viable.. If I read right..

Hempy,
S1 will have variation, but no less or more than other crosses if it was a hybrid. If an "IBL" it will be the same as an iblxibl for variation...IMO
An a S1 x S1 line.. by selfing would produce a homozygous state in the S2. Which would help weed out recessive traits. An excellent breeder. All of my phenos for sts-ing have been throughly stress tested without herms. And shantis "shit pheno" would barely put out male flowers even spraying with sts every 3 days, I got maybe 100 seeds from the plant right next to it...

A true hermi as i know them to be - male and female flowers show at the on set of the plant flowering haveing both male and female expresing in every flower site on the plant.

A single male pollen sack growing in the top flower sets of the plant at late flowering.

A single male pollen sack growing out of a single flower on the plant.

A female plant showing only female sexuality and then out of the main steam a new brach starts to grow out well into the plants flowering cycle and she grows a single branch with a male flower on this branch.

imo

cannabis = X/autosome dosage ratio system

the Y is a silencer

as you guys were saying,,,,,

2,,, XX`s = female

1 X,,+,,1 Y = "male"

2 XX`s + ,,,1 Y = "female" with the ability to turn "male"

Heres an up date on the s1 plants.

The plants look good but nothing like the f1 or f2s.

Interesting.
The first paragraph on "Stability of Sex Systems" considers that hermaphrodism (lability of the Sex Systems) may confer an adaptive advantage, or it might magnify inbreeding depression also favouring sex separation.

imo cannabis has no hemaphrodites only monoecious specimines in dioecious populations,,,

Rick if they have balls there male

A Moment of silence please.

XY-Male

XX-female

XXY-hermi

in this paper Ainsworth re-itterates how cannabis uses an X/Autosome dosage ratio system

[if an XXy indervidual willnot display intersexed traits] what do we call it?

hay nev,,,have you ever looked into clownfish breeding?

lets see if i can find a funny picture to suit my post,,,,hmmmmmmm,,,this is the first time ive done this so please excuse my choice...[this will be the 1 and only time i do this]...

Great pic Rick. Love the BlueBros.!!!! Good read. Is Ainsworth theorizing that hermaphrodites are a step of evolution between monoecious and dioecious states?

If he is wouldn't one logically conclude that dioecious back to hermie would be taking steps back?

He also states that there is information on the Y that is not on the X. Things like viral information? Should we throw this info. away and work with only X's?I say NO! Just my opinion. :)_~ KB

this is "My" take from Ainsworth

Ainsworth stands strong by the idea of Cannabis working on an X/autosome system,,,the fact that heteromorphic sex chromozones have been found seems to make no difference to him,,,,and i agree with Ainsworth brecause female "XX chromozone inderviduals" were shown to be able to produce viabal polen [.ram set],,,my understanding points to sterility mutations causing the divergence of sexes

yes,,"hemaphrodites",,and ,"Mono specimines" are at an "earlyer stage" of evoloution,,,but then we have to ask ourselvs the big question "what do we want" rapid evoloution?,,,,because that what i think western breeder have done!!,,,,when we bring a landrace indoors and grow it on hydroponics we see lots of intersexd expreshion,,,do we want to remove divercity?

have you guys ever though about clownfish biology?,,,

"In a group of clownfish, there is a strict hierarchy of dominance. The largest and most aggressive female is found at the top. Only two clownfish, a male and a female, in a group reproduce through external fertilization. The clownfish are hermaphrodites, meaning that they develop into males first, and when they mature, they become females. Also, as mentioned earlier, more than one clownfish is able to live in a sea anemone. If the female clownfish is removed from the group, such as by death, one of the largest and most dominant males would become a female. The rest of the remaining males will move up a rank on the hierarchy."

Glad I understood that, thanks. So this is the point I'am trying to get to that you also might agree with.?

The majority of "Western" breeding has IMO sent a signal to the species.

Plant says, "We are evolving too fast and in the wrong direction for species advancement."
Plant continues,"As a result of this stress we will attempt to self pollinate to maintain the recessive genes from 10,000 years ago which help us to survive this long."

IMO the infamous hermaphroditic states of the older Thai varieties would also indicate to me that rapid breeding for a few traits like potency and taste might trigger a survival response within the plant to attempt to inbreed itself, by producing "hermies."

In conclusion, i think that bad breeding produces intersexed plants in greater numbers. When genes the plants "don't like" combine then the plant attempts to correct itself by inbreeding itself.

Maybe this is how that patch of SK#1 Sam the Skunkman said "evolved?" :P
