Grail: The Ultimate Haze Hybrid

Right on Dr Purp,

there could be some real winners in there. In my experience, many humboldt county strains make the transition to indoors seamlessly. Also if you see any seeds that have a reddish tinge to them towards the butt and the little round hole at the bottom looks like it has been painted white, that might really mean something special. I have also found that some strains of humboldt cross very well with the Haze.

Awesome pics man. Great crosses.
Thanks.

The small black ones could well be Colombian, although a lot of Mexicans have small dark seeds too.

The big pale ones will likely be indicas, Afghanis tend to have big, silvery coloured seeds.

Certainly those seeds you have don't look like modern hybrid seed which is usually brown and tiger striped.

Well, I am full of hopes. The Haze hybrids are the favorites of me and my small circle of growers. The one has been keeping a SSH cut alive since the mid-90's.

I agree my friend. At the moment I am growing nothing but haze, all Green House. I want to grow mango haze from Mr Nice, but as I live in a part of the world where getting Mr Nice seeds is difficult unless you use a credit card. I like to leave no paper trail when I purchase seeds.

I prefer normal seeds, as I like to pollinate some of the lower buds;

I feel that way it is a win/win for the plant and for myself, as above all the plant wants to leave its genes behind, and I want seedless buds..

The Grail, now that would be something; i too am full of hopes - I do not think we will be disappointed.

happy growing,

Hi Dr Purpur,
It's a good thing to have old friends.
If such a thing was to happen to me,
I would first separate all seed by visual type, size shape color and such.
then plant a few of each to see some expression.
Seed size only tells you calyx size of the mother plant so you just never know what will show up.
Thai has the largest seed I have ever seen, but Haze and some skunk have tiny brown or Grey black seed too.
Good luck with those,I truly hope you find some Humboldt Green,
It was real good back in the eighties when I was in that area.

scorpion

just my opinion, the black seed in the pic will be broad leaf indica...

My Older Son dropped off some seeds collected by an old Hippie in Humboldt over the years. He only kept seeds from the best smoke. He dug out a handful and handed them to My Son, and said " give these to your Dad, He will find something in here".
Theres all colors and sizes of seeds. Some are cracked, but most of them look good. The small black seeds caught My eye. Those must be a Red Weed. Something real old school.

LOL! That's great Dr.P. Reminds me of the mixed seed bag Kangativa gave me recently.

So I said to him, "What are these?"
He answers, "All of my strains crossed to either MM or Oaxacan."
"Yeah???" I scratch my head, barely concealing my disappointment at not knowing what was what.

But at some point it sunk in, "What a treasure!" So now I realise what a sublime gift it was - everything either 50% MM or Oaxacan - so I could last a lifetime growing just these. And get an original strain every time.:D

One thing I did learn though; the very small black seeds = Oaxacan; the large lighter colored seeds = MM.

Could your little black seeds be ol school Mexican?

I hope so:D

Hi everyone, I thought I had better get this post done before another day of testing as I already have tried to do this 3 times and given up.
Ok the Grail is in full swing now with Nev here, so at the moment testing is being done on the Seeded Oaxacan buds to select the one:D
Next we will look at the Mullum Madness and then the MM x Mex.
Also currently growing is the Hawaiian x Vietnam Black, pure Hawaiian and Hawaiian x G13.....The latter 2 being from fem seeds. I cannot comment on weather these plant are less vigorous as I do not have them in regular to compare. I also did not have any problems with hermies up until this point and the plants are growing as normal as any other. I also must state that these Hawaiian strains are from a excellent breeder of good standing.
We are also in the proccess of starting seeds from Colombian Gold, Airbourne G13, Afghan Purple haze, Purple Thai and from the Mr Nice stock, NL#5 x Skunk and NL#5 x Afghan as we are exploring which Indica will prove to be the best in 25% of the new hybrid.
Next week we will also be starting original F1 Nev Haze seeds which are from Haze C x 5Haze A. We may suffer some germanation problems but hopefully we will get enough:D
Also in the garden is a Skunk which Nev last made in 2004 and he says is from his better line that he did, although this one is a bit lighter smelling than others, but still has the nice bud structure and resin production.
More detail smoke reports will be put up at a later date when the selection has been made of each strain.
We would also like to say a big thank you to the Members who donated there seeds and also the ones that made the offers, unfortunetly we are not able to grow every single strain, although believe me looking at all the pics put up of members strains it would be a dream to be able to do so:D
Well its off to testing again, which means another day of total tripped, spaced out day only to be interupted by a stronger smoke taking you higher than the one before.
ohh and one more thing lets keep this civil please coz if it gets shitty its easy to turn the comp off and nothing gets told until its finished.
This is the start of the Grail and it will be, when we are able, updated from start to finish.

I can just see you two rogues hard at work testing lol. Some bugger has to do it lol. I just wish I was there to see the goofy grins on your faces as you work through testing each individual strain.
By the way, I could not stop laughing for ages after we got off Skype last night. It was bloody terrific to see you and Nev in a state of cannabliss, specially with young Danyil learning from the masters.

Fan-flipping-tastic, every single word of that will have stuck in the craw of those who don't want to see Nev achieve anything towards new breeds and projects!

Really looking forward to seeing how you go along with this new work, probably a good idea to start a Grail grow thread.

Interesting you are looking at NL5Skunk and NL5Afg for the 25% indica part. I've tracked down a Nordle (AfgTSkunk) cutting for precisely the same reason. My Colombian male wants to bang her brains out so I can grow the progeny and see how they combine. I have a rough outline plan to create a 75% Colombian line and I'm just at the stage of maing and growing f1 crosses of the best female indicas I can find to my Colombian male so a long ways to go but it is fun ain't it!

Ok the Grail is in full swing now with Nev here, so at the moment testing is being done on the Seeded Oaxacan buds to select the one
Next we will look at the Mullum Madness and then the MM x Mex.

Full swing! Rock on fellas! I keep hearing how good that Oaxacan is, sounds like you already have a great parental line in that one and the pics of it always look killer. The MM we all know about and if you think about it, blending Oaxacan, Thai and Colombian genes sounds rather familiar, some fellas in Cali did something similar once before! lol

You know, it would negate a lot of the BS and raking over the coals of old stories if you Aussies were able to breed a sativa polyhybrid that made that made Haze redundant. No more endless debate about what is in it, where it came from and who made it because it's old news and this new hybrid has superceded it. You have the Oaxacan and MM and some other great sats so go to it!

Is the 2004 Skunk the one we were discussing? I think that will be a good one to work with as I liked the samples from that line my friends grew, probably the best Skunk type I can remember smoking actually.

Well its off to testing again, which means another day of total tripped, spaced out day only to be interupted by a stronger smoke taking you higher than the one before.

Oh if only you knew how jealous I am! Hope you and Nev have a blast mate, wish I could join ya! I take it there is barbecuing involved as well? lol

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

Nev knew he was in good company when he was met by the "Dave Watson" and "Sam Selijni" signs as he came through the airport door

That just cracks me up! I bet Nev had a good chuckle over this lol

Oh now that is funny! You should have taken a pic of Nev's face to capture the expression for posterity!

Yeah the surprise was how young he looked coming thru the airport doors, as this pic of him checking out some grail candidates can attest:D

I wonder if that's cos his face only dates from the early 80s when he had that horrid oil making accident? lol

That plant has to be 12ft and not even begun flowering yet, nice!

Someone go post that pic of Nev and the tree at ICMAG with a thread title something like : The King is Back and see how long it lasts before it's deleted! rofl

Well after a hard day at the office a candidate seems to have raised its head in the Highland Oaxacan test and it will go by the name Mex 27.
It is not the strongest smelling, but has a nice clean taste and the high is in the 8-9 range. All these tests have been done with seeded and very immature buds, so we expect this to be stronger with more maturity.
Also discovered was a nice smelling Panama Red which we will put the Mex 27 male over and the smell and taste from this cross should be incredible.....but that could be it of course as the Pan is untested.
Here is some pics of a Mex 27 female which I already have growing.
