Grail: The Ultimate Haze Hybrid

Hi there Moon
While as I'm interested in the genetics of which you speak, a five year breeding plan is probably not the most direct route. In any case, inbreeding Haze does not give consistant results (at least in the short term).

I've been smoking stuff with PNG in it lately, I thought it was Thai and not the sweet stuff. PNG is new to me and I'm excited about what remains to be discovered. I hear talk of an expedition. These are men after my own heart. Smoking a chillum with the cannibals (the whole cannibal thing is probably exaggerated anyway). I hope they film noteworthy events.
N.

Ah, PNG Nevil?

I know someone who had seeds he called PNG .303, a Papua New Guinea landrace that was used in crosses with a Northern Lights/Haze hybrid if memory serves?. l33t knows the guy I think and he actually was the fellow who first turned me onto your Haze at a Hempfair a couple of years ago.

Thee most impressive smoke I've had for years.:)

a bit of Haze

I just picked the last of it. I saw a couple moldy buds. Its been raining and very cold at times. Got below freezing.

Was it the bomb diggity? Did it make you act like a hysterically happy baby when you smoked it?
.

Well, there were many different hybrids, which as a general whole, I referred to as the Africanized Hazes
Generally I have found, whatever trait it is that gives the Malawi its characteristic stonyness, is highly recessive. With that said all the hybrids did show at least some of that characteristic malawi stonyness.
I will explain. For example: take two parents who one has blue eyes, and the other has brown eyes. Now, the brown eyed parent has no recessive traits for blue eyes. The following is a detail that is generally over looked: even though every child from these two parents will have brown eyes because blue eyed trait is recessive, in most cases, the children will have varying shades of brown and in virtually every case it will be a lighter shade of brown than the father's. I call this bleed over, because I don't know the technical phrase for this phenomenon. So with Malawi, even the bleed over factor is enough to profoundly effect the stonyness of the specimen. But I did find one superior plant that
appeared to be pure for it expression of this pheno-type. This particular cut to date remains the strongest strain I have ever smoked, it was very severe and not in a giggly sort of way. It was debilitatingly narcotic and hallucinogenic. However It had a serious problem in my opinion. If you smoked it every day you would develop a tolerance to it after several weeks, and then, unlike other strains, if you were highly tolerant to this malawi haze, I found, absolutely nothing, not haze, not indica, not anything, would get you high. One of the things I love and cherish about haze is that as a regular smoke you never seem to develop much of a tolerance to it.
Also once you have developed that tolerance to this malawi haze, it is like you are permastoned, you feel fine you don't think you are stoned, but you are just messed up, and you start screwing up on all kinds of shit and you find your whole life spiralling away from you, at least that is what happenned to me. I found the Malawi haze was ideal as an occasional smoke, but definitely not for everyday use.

What kind of haze is that Dr? Only purple haze I have even seen pics of is that stuff snow high posted earlier in the thread. And the some pics of the Craze (critical haze), posted on another thread.

Your gonna get Me in Trouble with Nevil.

Its an OHaze Skunk freebie I started it last fall, a year ago. It tastes pretty good, but is not a acid type high.

As I mentioned, KC's haze has purple phenos.

Thanks for more info on your afro-hazes...that one pheno sounds like something too poweful for human lungs...Ambrosia haze maybe?

has anyone tried the haze special from kcbrains that mr. bfskinner mentioned? several years ago i bought a pack but none would germ. it is certainly a hybrid of sorts because of the fast finish advertised, but what is in it? and does it look like haze when growing?

the reason i ask is because kcbrains is a breeder who has been around a long time and granted, his forte seemed to be work for the great outdoors but he may well have been on hand when haze first showed face in europe? one question i always had is that both shanti and kcbrains incorporated genetics from brazil in their work, not that unusual except for the fact that few other breeders ever ventured into the same territory? peace-biteme

Here is that crazy purple Critical Haze shot I was telling you about, for those of you who haven't seen it yet.

That is a stunner Kanga.

I think it is no coincidence that one of the very finest cultivars of cannabis (Highland Oaxacan Gold) comes from the same place where horticulture and plant breeding first developed to an advanced level. There are no large mammals native to the southern Pacific uplands of Mexico, no sheep, no cows, they didn't have the horse, buffalo/bullock, chicken or pig either, but they did have excellent soil, a greenhouse climate and a few native plants with potential. One of the was a wild grass called Teosinte and from that they bred Maize (Corn) and it became their staple crop.

Now, given that the Mexican Indians had plant breeding skills and advanced horticulture, it is a small step to envisage them growing the hemp introduced by the Spanish and over 3-400 years they created Highland Oaxacan Gold which is the biggest yielding traditional cultivar by far, DJ Short mentions it being the biggest yielding traditional line and in my experience, it outyields modern varieties indoors but with longer flowering time.

They took Teosinte which grew tiny, almost inedible kernels and bred Maize with grows huge very edible ears of kernels.

They took Spanish hemp which grew almost unsmokeable flowers and lots of fibre and bred Highland Oaxacan Gold which grows huge very smokeable flowers.

Other regions of Mexico also had advanced horticulture and bred their own cannabis breeds, Sam the Skunkman and others try to tell everyone it all began in California in the 60s and 70s but without the input of genes from Mexico, those hippies would have had to start from scratch. We don't give enough credit to the Mexicans, they were breeding cannabis into all kinds of distinct lines centuries before California was even a State of the US. I know people associate Mexican weed with shitty brick these days, but that is purely the fault of the US govt, before the war on drugs began in the 70s, Mexican weed was superb, there were countless distinct and special cultivars - Zacatecas Purple from a remote high valley near Aguascalientes, Guerran Green from the Gulf Coast, the Acapulco/Oaxacan Golds of the Southern Pacific Sierra Madre, the related Michoacan Brown Spears from a little further north in the Sierra Madres and the crazy Sonoran desert weed that made the Yaqui Indians fierce warriors for Pancho Villa.

All the great Mexican genes of the past would still survive if the US hadn't sponsored the Paraquat spraying of pretty much the whole of Mexico in the late 70s. By 1980, the Mexicans had nothing left pretty much, we know they had lost almost everything because of the infamous DEA case where they caught the largest drug kingpin in Mexico who had been importing growers and seeds from California to setup big grows in Sonora in the NW.

I'm pretty sure California has yet to produce anything as good as the best that the Mexicans were enjoying for centuries.

303 is not PNG or a landrace it is a line that has png / and many other lines in it that fet offered.

I grew a pack of fet's 303 indoors and it was a disaster, just didn't want to flower properly and then hermied.

Haze Special is NL x Haze, it's very varied but has some killer phenos. It might be NL x Nev's Haze or related to Nev's Haze in some other way, not sure, it's very similar to Nev's Haze is some phenos.

KC is from Brazil, he used to work at Positronics, KC used a few strains from Brazil, maybe he gave the strain to Shanti that went into Widow? Certainly KC was living in Holland in the 90s when Shanti was.

thanks for the maize info British, very interesting stuff, I remember when I first started smoking, the very first stuff I started smoking,We used to get this brickweed from mexico, it was like the reddist stuff I have ever seen, and it was so nice, a real giggly euphoric high, and we used to by 1 finger baggies for 5 and 2 fingers for 10. I was in high school, and we used to pitch in for nickels, and just get wasted, out in the forest. Those were the days.
Pass the visine dude, I gotta be home for dinner.
