Good work clearing mate, you said there's not much, but looks like a few nice flowering plants there :)

thanks bushy , not easy clearing there , but well worth it for the advantages it gives ,, im pretty excited about how much difference its going to make ..

yes theres flowering plants still ,, the 2 larger ones are volunteers , some reasonable bud on them ,, mostly sativa .. i have more plants that will continue to flower in the next weeks ...
after then all i have is these thin leafed sativas ,, some nice smells when rubbing stalks ...

Beautiful Stuff Wally.

thanks mate ,
just figured id add a pic of how the plants used to grow before the trees grew too large beside the patch .. a sign of things to come in the near future i hope ..

Beautiful bushy plants there mate, be great if they grow like that again. Also, nice looking sat, two posts before, what strain is that? Looks a lot like something I'm growing. What about your Mango heads? How are they? I smoked some Mango heads in the late eighties - iridescent orange and white - amazing stuff, would love to see some of that still around.

hey bushy , howd xmas go for you mate>??

ohh they will grow like that again now those trees are gone , though im not a real big fan of those giant plants , they will be there again this season id say .

All the sativas i have in at the moment are from a mating of 2 local sativas , they may have already been related given the locations , so assuming thai , indian ,png something like that .. the usual strains found here ..

im certainly noticing familiar sativery smells and looks ...

on the mango bud , been a while since ive grown any , they were a favourite here for a while ,, everytime i had anything slightly resembling mango it would be snapped up very fast , the locals much preferred it to the modern strains we have .

I would have to search though a bunch of the local sativas to find that mango again , was very popular so couldnt be too hard to find something similar .

a heap of storys came about from that mango erb , how did they get it to smell like that .. lol ...
ive heard heaps of different versions ,, grown close to mango trees ,, cured with some cut mango etc etc
not many seem to believe marijuana has these tastes naturally , no need to add anything ...

one reason why we will have similar stocks bushy ,, i am not that far from what they call "the nimbin of the north" ,
we all have similar ties , know similar folk , and who knows some of us are prolly related , hehe ...

i should think genetics from here and there have been going backwards and fowards since it all began .

Huh! Mango sativas? Have you been holding out on me Wal? I'm sure you'll find it again. I'm very interested, tell us more?

Hi nevil ,
I put aside the sativas a while cause my grow habits changed a little , needed the shorter flowring varieties to capitilize on the right time of year here ..

I will be doing some collecting the next year , have to get out and about a bit more and stop being such a hermit ,, lol

On the mango sativa , just collected it locally from some nice sativa i scored , though as i said it had been quite common ,, mangoana heads i think they called it ,,
quite a sour mango smell , .exactly like unripe mangos ,, it was very similar to the haze i grew from tom hill ,, in fact i grew a cutting in the same place and you wuldnt tell them apart , have to dig up some pictures ...

the high from the mango was very racey, but quite clear , no foggyness ,, talk 100 miles an hour type of high , and not for the folks that suffer anxiety or paranoia easily .. heart pumping and head racing .
yep your right id better try and get that back .. lol ...

theres a hybrid from the mango sativa and afghani #1, i was happy with the result , but really wanted a better indica father than the afghani #1 , sensis stock with that was pretty poor , the lot i grew anyhows .

What a shame it was A#1. It's best just to feed the seeds from A#1 lines to the chooks. It's for the best really.

Have to agree with that as far as the ones i tried went , fat buds was the only trait that stood out , the rest were to forget ,
it was a useful test though, i know the sativa i used had not seen any indica for countless generations , so the union was a great example of a hybrid ,
very vigerous ,, it resisted mould , didnt topple over as can happen here in the wet season , the plants were all pretty uniform , a great plant to grow and smoke ..
with a better choice of father it would have been amazing ..

So here is tom hills haze grown a year later than the mango mum id had t here previously .. and heres the post i made when i put up the picture in 2005 ...

donald-mallard-albums-album-picture3525-7tom-hills-haze-revegging.jpg

this plant has been quite a surprise to me .. its tom hills haze , but strange enough its the exact same stuff i grew in that place last season , mango sativa , smells the same . looks the same , i couldnt tell them apart if they were together .... think we have been toking haze in oz for some time ...

Curiouser and curiouser.
n.

I guess it likely adds fuel to your fire where origin of haze is concerned , as id be pretty sure the mangoana would be a either thai or png ,but more likey the former as when the mango sativas were popular here it was before the huge png shipments to oz .... and not much chance haze would have png genetics in it .

That's interesting the similarity between Tom Hill's Haze and Mangoana. I remember reading on one of the Australian boards that Mango Heads were a cross of Durban Poison and MM. Another poster (I thought it might have been you Wal) suggested a South Indian heritage? More than one floating around I would say.

likely a smell that pops up in sativas bushy , like the carrot smell , ive smelt that in quite a few unrelated sativas from totally different countries ...

Hi Wally & Bushweed,

I can remmember growing a lot of seed that I collect from selling pounds of DP back in the late 70's a lot of these plants made a strong mango/2-4-5T Herbicide aroma.

That freshly pulled carrots smell is one of my favorites

Cheers BP

In My experience smoking pot and growing sativas. That this mango smell is not restricted to a particular strain, but rather a phenotypical expression that different cannabis strains can have. I used to pick up alot of different mango buds in my time here in oz.

The italian mafia used to grow very large quantities of mango aromatic cannabis in far north queensland. It was a marketing ploy for them, what australian doesn't like mangos right.

Anyway interesting dicussion.

my thoughts also mr wallace ..
as for the mangoana , it was from cedar bay im told ,a hippy commune in the north during the 70s ... it was either a thai or indian as they were the main contributers to a lot of the hippy erb back then so it seems , i know several that were travelling to and from india and often also thailand .

the italians used to grow some great weed t hats for sure mr wallace , back in the tobacco days ...
where tobacco grows well , so does our friend the cannabis plant ,

and boy ,, who wouldnt love one of those tobacco drying barns they had ,, ive driven past them on numerous occasions thinking of the possibilites they hold ...
