hempy bro,,,you must understand about loss of Genetic Variation,,,,without the apropreate Ne how do you hope to stay above the rate of mutation ?,,,,without the repair mechinisms that come with higher Ne numbers its all going pareshaped bro,,,,no?

Easy rick by using a male.

ok,,,so call it 15 gen`s in ,,,still its not showing any loss of vigor,,,ok,,,,but what makes you think you are not picking up deleterious recessives?

The males help purge them

the direction of selection changes as the environment changes,,,so,what was advantageous or neutral ten generations ago may be deleterious today,,,so, when you bring a landrace indoors or a hybid indoors it is possible that some of the deleterious genes that we observe in natural populations are on their way out, but selection has not yet completely removed them....

Males help purge bad mutations and also helps the plant with changes such as environmental from were i sit if a plant is more resistant to say mites or pm they should remain so genetic material is there rick and carried across each generation.

its the job of a REAL to remove anything deleterious,,,or he may as well pull his pants down and get ready for the n-generation,,,,

Real a real what rick ? fishing real ?.

Its the job of a male yes a real male rick to pollinate a female to produce seed that will insure the species future not a reversal of a female to then self pollinate its self as most fem seeds are on the fem market.

i apreceate the tone of convosation hempy,,,,i must say you are very calm,,,you give me a soothing feeling,,,,but i fear your idea of a 1:1 being "cool" if a male is involved is just not right, its not what evolotionay biologist believe,,[imo],,,your not answeing my questions about loss of Genetic Vaireation in Pureline breeding

where is nevil to back this?

honestly,,its a pleasure talking to you hempy,,,you have a very calming vibe to your post,,,but again i fear things will not be so cool in the future

in the fist comment you hilighted, i was actualy talking about M/F breeding,,

rick i am a carm person i just don't like smart asses or ass holes or liers i tend to get agitated and i then arch up if i am being insulted by them but think most do right ?.

You are allowed to have your opinion rick its nice is it not to have one with out being set upon by a angry mob like well you know lol.

Rick i am not saying breeding 1:1 is ideal but what i am saying is many have and still do breed there best healthy female to there best healthy male cannabis plants with genetic lines older than you or i and these plant lines still have vigor still deal with extremes in environmental grow conditions very well so why are these plant lines not suffering loss of vigor or dieing off at the changes we are all seeing all over the world now in environmental changes taking place.

Males play a big role rick in cannabis something fem supporters seam to try and dispel males real males help purge harmful mutations help with adjusting to environmental changes and even keep mutations that are beneficial to the plant.

lol,,,yeh,,,im not 1 to get angry,,,i like to play a smother game:),,,,,getting angry is a waist of emotion that id rather bottle up and turn into something productive and respectable

please let me point something out hempy,,

i dont want to lose the Y chromozone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I DONT WANT TO LOSE THE Y CHROMOZONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,,,,,

^^^^ i put it like this so i make an impact!!!!,,,,,i allso believe it has something to do with repair mechanism`s!!!!!!!!!!!!

but when it comes to "locking down" genotypes and removing genetic load,,,,lets put the Y on hold for 1 generation,,,,remove the load,,,re arange the frequencys,,,,,then add the Y chromozone back,,,,,,

^^^ thats perfect,,,an this is what ive allways been saying

howling in the wind

Male bashing has become popular in today's society. We have become the non-essential element in the family. Women are now financially independant through welfare and child support. Masculinisation of women and lesbianism is rampant. The blood of warriors and shamen courses through our veins with a vitality that goes back to the cave men. The Y chromosome, symbol of elemental disruption and progress at the same time. And they say it's not needed. Fools! Little do they know. Eve can be plucked from man's rib, but not the other way around.
Truth is that some men make better women than any woman can be a man.
Let me ask you this, what animal do you despise the most? The most common answer people give (without knowing why) is the Hyena. Hyena's have a dominant matriarchy where the male is lowest in rung. The females even have a penis.
Cannabis is considered a highly evolved plant because it has two sexes. Why would you want to throw one of them away?
Let me ask you a question. Do you really know what the Y chromosome is for?
I have spent many hours pondering this.
I'll let you ponder for a while.

Rick the fem seed market selling all these fem seeds have done what i will tell you for the most part they have got a clone be it from these so called elite clones or have selected a f1 female from a pack of seeds then used a clone of its self and turned it to a male by using chemicals to produce seeds for the market with out any or little testing fact or fiction well its fact right.

What advantages have they achieved in doing so from were i sit nil what harm have they done well possibly a lot.

What is the argument here rick i feel this topic as in all the fem seed posts soon steers away from the topic and becomes a genetic or botanic theoretic debate about evaluation and breeding using theoretic arguments that even scientists still debate to this day.

Why do so many of you that have yet to put your thearys into practice believe something in nature that have evolved for millions of years being a sexual reproduction in a species this being cannabis is not the way to go yet using chemicals to turn a female into a male to then breed with is.

The male helps purge mutations it helps to maintain fitness and more we don't even understand as yet is it possible that the female plants your turning into a male is coursing a mutation to its DNA that even if its used with a male will pass that mutation on and be unable to purge it you don't know do you.

Inbreeding depression is the result of the compounding effect of negative recessive alleles as opposed as the mere act of inbreeding a line. A lot of the poly hybrid bunk lines out there today suffer from out crossing depression also known as unstable heterosis. In both of these instances the intermediate phenotype has a low level of relative fitness with the fittest plants being at the extreme ends of the population curve.
A realistic goal might be to have an effective Ne of say between 32 and 64 at F2. Less than perfect indeed, but it will at least afford the opportunity to determine the intermediate phenotype, calculate the dominant and recessive ratios and get some idea if it is worth continuing on with the line.
Most of the genetic drift happened ages ago when the Dutch comercialised the cannabis seed business. None of that can be undone

I don't know what you are talking about?

hi all

Fist let me state that I have tried and grown feminized seed in the past, I saw no hermi problems or had other bad issues..Maybe I was lucky or my rooms had a good stable environment and I didn't have any probs..I don't know really..Trichome production was up there with regular seeds and I didn't see a single male flower..But others have had probs thought with fem seeds..
I would probably never really pay to buy feminized seed , I was gifted those I grew and had free space so I tried them.I prefer regular seeds.

Now I understand very well what hempy's position in all of this. He is just honestly concerned with what is happening in practice . The market is flooded with fem seeds , most companies have gone all - fem...What will be the effect of all this in the long term ??? I know hempy does not have a problem with the technology itself..but with its application and with whats happening in the market.

I will keep being an advocate of ''12/12 from seed'' methods , as starting plants straight under flowering regime can help sex plants as soon as possible (thats usually 2.5-3.5wks from germination for most hybrids) and toss males if they are not needed. Then one can put the sexed young plants in veg mode if he wishes to grow em big enough before inducing flowering again and finishing em. So there is no need to spent any serious amount energy, space etc on unwanted males even if one uses regular seeds.

Basically its pretty much like starting seeds outdoors early in the season , checking sex by the early flowers seen in Spring (when the light regime is flowering plants , I refer to Northern Hemisphere), tossing males if desired and focusing on vegging the females .
So considering such early sexing methods, I find that people that claim they prefer feminized seed just cause they dont want to bother growing unwanted males..have an alternative option to fem seeds and are not really limited to fem seed. Cause most of the fem seed buyers just buy fem seed to avoid spending energy/space/effort on the males (which are not of interest for most growers who grow for flower production).

Anyway just thought to drop by n give my opinion..great thread guys and lots of nice info her , keep up the good discussion

nev,,you gota read that paper i just droped,,,it gives us the propper Ne numbers to retain genetic divercity in cannabis,,,

if you want more info fom cuzin dave id be happy to provide you with it,,but the truth is kopite is quite well equiped to say the same stuff,,,what exactly dont you understand about dave?

hay l33:),,,,im totaly with you on dissliking the way the cannabis seedmarket is functioning!!,,,,,some peeps want the $$$,,,some peeps want the best smoke,,,,i dont smoke money so im in the smoke crew,,,

if it was upto me id probbly only supply breeders with feminized and selfed seeds and id give the public some genes that make seeds easly without silver ion aplication,,,,

but for breeding and especialy evaluation ,,,fems are gooooooood!!,,,,,,,,its effective as a breeding tool an as an observation tech......all you gota do is select plants that take a wont reverse easly,,,[like nev said,,hes even had problems reversing his NL with chemicals],,,,that plant would be perfect as 1 of the P1`s in a 2 plant cross,,,,id try and find another hardy NL [allmost impossible to everse],,cross the 2 and you have the fukin terminator,,nothin will stop it growing femal flowers,,,,you could modifi the line to perfection then re-add the Y chromozone,,,then sell the fuker

dutch passion too the piss with us when they started doing fem seeds,,,,we can set a better example

im ashamed to be a fem supporter when seedcompanys dont explain in there dicriptions that "this line is a work in progress...some plant show intersexed traits"

if any of you out there find "the best plant in the world",,,i urge you not to cull it if it expresses intersexed traits,,,,,,we can remove them via feminization,,,then once the trait has been removed from the line we can readd a healy male,,then we will have removed the intersexed expreshion and made it easy for the public to make "healthy" seeds

hempy can be better concerned about the flood of autoflowers than feminized seeds.Autoflowers do more damage to the cannabis gene pool than the fem part of Cannabis. The Lowryder strain is the worst case scenario for cannabis.I've never had such a weak Cannabis strain, although i've been practising with one of the parents of the Finola strain in the 90s.

rick the only use i see in reversal is in using it for males to see what it will bring to the union that's it as a tool as hybrids will recombine in many vereations.

This Selfing craze and fem seed craze is complete bull shit.

Why don't you stop posting links and research papers on corn wheat hemp tomatos peas and show me real research done on cannabis rick.

Show me why not tell me why a male has no use or this fem process is an advancement like you and others are selling the community.

You tell me inbreeding is driving the line off a cliff yet pictures don't lie rick the Thia look very healthy and happy as i sed inmbreed 6 generations since 1978 i have seen many lines that were inbreed longer than mostly here posting have been alive still happy healthy and nil loss of vigor.

Yet one generation of s1 had massive loss of vigor yet the f2s made using a brother plant then inbreed had huge vigor tell me why this is rick lets get to the meat of it not pick at the peas and potatoes n gravy for a change.

Could it be there's no male maybe rick tell me why does cannabis have a male in its species if it was not viable or impotent don't you think evaluation would of removed it if it was as worthless as some of you feel it is.

Reality is rick most fem seeds are s1 chemically made seeds and that alone dose not seam to bother you or many other fem supporters why does that not.

Do any of the fem supporters or people making selling them even no what the process has done to the genetics there selling or do they even know what harm could come on the people that is smoking it as there using chemicals and as most will not even give out info relating to how they are made no one has a clue whats being used.

I'm still waiting for an answer from a proponent of Fem seeds ( or anyone ) what they think natures purpose is with regard to the Y chromosome. Or, if you think it's irrelevant, what is your reasoning.
We are just discussing idea's here, I don't insist that anyone agrees with me.
