(this must be what these clueless Americans say to each other, but it is not the real world)
I find it funny how we Americans are called "clueless", yet we are responsible for breeding the very strains everyone is arguing about, and long before seed banks were ever heard of. Not to mention, Neville is Aussie, is he not?
Well, I guess I can give the Europeans some credit, Green Lemon was an "OK" strain.
However people are going to have their opinions and views over what had happened, even though many were not even born, or at the very least even growing in those days. something that happened 25 yrs ago has no bearing or relevance in todays seed industry, nor does it have any effect on the evolution of breeding. I guess people just need something to talk about though. Honestly, if I want to "American bashed" I would just go to Cannabis Culture forums. Seems to me like this forum is taking route of so many others; a shit throwing competition rather than sticking to growing, breeding, and guiding the next generation of growers in the right directions to preserve some of the truly great true line strains of yesteryear.
Well, so much for this being a civil and respectful forum.
This is the first time I heard anyone ever buying, though indirectly it seems, anything from Sam from the early days. Sam claims to still have packets and advertising from the '70's. The real measure of a seed company is getting the seeds actually into the hands of people, this is what Nevil did, not merely printing up a bunch of lists and keeping the seeds only in a small, secret community.
There is no evidence that the seeds were directly from Sam, frm my understanding of the whole seed thing with Sacred Seeds is that it was a collective of growers/breeders. Which would point me to the understanding that there were more involved than just Sam in breeding many of these strains. If you have ever been to the serious grow communities of Ca. there are many strains that are simly what I like to call "word of mouth" strains which are traded and shared among the "in" growers. I possess a few strains wich are not known, however it was the result of several growers, not just me. To take on a truly serious breedng effort takes time and the efforts of a few people. Back when I began to get into breeding, we worked with what we had, which the best straisn were coming out of Northern Ca. and there was no other source for seeds. who even knows if the seeds were really from Sacred Seeds, they were purchased in Ca. and came in a very simple package with handwritten print stating "Sacred Seeds" Haze. I trusted the grower whom I bought the seeds off, for we had did some trades prior to me being busted for cultivation.
My main point here is: this is supposed to be a grow forum, strains are pretty much readily available now and you, nor I, nor anyone else other than those invovled in the true dealings of '83, '84, & '85 have any clue as to what went down. Furthermore, what does it matter, I mean honestly. Is Skunk #1 going to suddenly become more potent and yield more just b/c we find out that it was some other breeder which created the strain? Is it going to change the Skunk we know today? It is not going change anytng in the world of breeding today by throwing shit at each other over some strain(s) which were developed long before anyone openly sold seeds. The laws suck, her en the USA they suck big time but the waves of time are beginning to change this. In those days, we worked closely with each other and kept our trades and dealings with seeds and cuts among only those we trusted, which quite often that was not even safe and I'm proof of that after spending a good bit n the Federal ssytem by the hands of jealous growers who set me up and gave up some of my outdoor ops.
I'm a grower, it is more than a hobby for me, it is more than just having good bud to smoke for little investment. It is knowing I can keep a strain I like gong and preserve this for other growers in the future. It is the passion to grow the very best and learn more and more with every grow, as well as get better. If a grower thinks they know it all about growing, well good for them, but i have been at it inone way or another over half my life and I still learn from others.
We need to let sleeping dogs lie and go about improving the future of this industry and place our efforts in more constructive work such as: changing the laws and views of John Q Public. Cannabis is a beautiful, wonderous, truly unique plant species with many uses and a valuable resource any place on this planet.
It just gets old after hearing all the "he say, she say" over the yrs. t i getting the same in Ca andother places where growing is a staple in the economy, growers reverting to clon only to keep their genetics from being used and profited on by others.
In ending, who really has the right to anything involving cannabis? Is it not what created such a fucked up industry as we see today? How can smething creatd and found naturally in nature be taken to the level of ownership as it is today.
