Hey Shanti what do you think?

Hi Shanti

I was curious what you thought about a couple of things. It seems you have to spend time posting and closing threads due to fussing and fighting. Maybe you can post some thing about the plant? :)

Did you mainly use test results in the selections for the cbd series? Did this make things easier and faster in the selection process? Did you find a thc:cbd ratio that YOU prefered?
Hi Piranha :),
Sometimes it is easy to assume today is like any other day, or these times are the same as all others. But for some, a reality and truth of life is much more pressing of an issue compared to where others find themselves, which can owe itself to a number of reasons none of which are readily seen due to the nature of the online environment.

Below is some information from Shantibaba about some of the methods used to assure customers that the product they are offering is what they say it is.
Hi All

well i was planning to write this up before but the site kept me busy dealing with stuff I was hoping had gone away with 2011....so before i get distracted again here it is....

Jaime (Resin Seed), Shantibaba(MNS), Howard Marks(Mr Nice) and Jorge Cervantes(author) will be chairing part of the Resin stand as the CBDcrew for the Friday and Saturday 24th and 25th of Feb 2012 Barcelona Spannabis Expo. We will be available to chat and be offering to those who wish to try some of the samples of enriched CBD strains we grew out from the seed (that will be on sale for the first time ever).

Samples from over 80 of the plants we tested with lab results supporting a 1 to 1 ratio of CBD to THC. These samples will be dispensed using a Volcano vaporizer along with regular methods. We hope to see a lot of medical patients and happy to chat and offer assistance to any queeries...hope to see you there...

high regards CBDcrew

In terms of if using lab results is any faster, I would guess the answer is using lab work is only a tool used in the ultimate aid and development of a product. The fact just initial results to show the CBD Crews effort was on track took at least two years means there is/was some serious effort going into the ultimate design of these products.

Hi All

well the fact is we flowered out 10 seeds of each strain we have been working on to test the 1:1 ratio THC:CBD ,to see whether it was breeding true to our expectations. We did not know if this was the case until we did this testing so we selected 10 seeds at random of each strain, and when the lab results came back we found we had found true breeding for this trait with the parent plants we selected. This was the finally testing to confirm we were well on track after some 2+years...

Hi All

well I believe the CBDcrew strains labelled 1 to 10 were our final strains that are now in offer on the cbd-crew range, nothing to do with cannatonic in actual fact.
The Z series was Cannatonic x Nordle, correct and then the selection based on testing after that....so Z6 is nothing to do with CBD 6. Different lines. As we evolved with the testing and selections we were able to enrich strains with cbd.It is not as easy as crossing a CBD plant to another and the testing is important to proceed. I have not come across 20%CBD plants but I am sure they could exist.
We are just beginning on this ride so do not expect everyone to follow everything until it is measured , verified and tested...all this takes time for each plant. So persistence and help from individual growers and medical patients will make this project successful.

All the best sb

How do you think tissue culture and seed embryo will affect the cannabis world in the future? Having a clone in seed form seems pretty nifty. Will there a be a time soon when we can buy elite selections for example like your 5HZ122 in seed form? Or tailor made seeds with an exact thc:cbd ratio for medical grows?
I can remember dilegentely reading Mr. Breeder Steves writings many years ago where I first came across information about tissue culture and thought it was an innovative concept for the cannabis seed industry, but to date, Im unsure whatever came of his concepts after so long now.

The breeding process in which SSH and MH has underwent pretty much ensures that the consumer gets very special plants in the commercially available MNS SSH and Mango Haze F1 packs as it stands. Anyone who has worked with these lines knows the quality is absolutely outstanding, so while it would always be nice to have copies of fabled and legendary plants one can be assured that the brilliant quality of these lines has been captured through the production of the F1 product available to anyone with the money and a safe address where laws permit.

As for exact thc:cbd ratios, the available literature at this time touches on the subject below.

The CBD-crew quality standard offers growers/patients:

100% CBD-rich seeds: all seeds germinated are CBD-rich.
For the strains that also produce THC: we aim to have THC in a 1:1 ratio with CBD. To know if you really have a perfect 1:1 you’ll need to test a sample of your flowers. When testing large populations of seeds (for example 100 seeds of the same variety producing both THC and CBD), we noticed that the average results tend to show a 1:1 ratio, ranging from 1:0.5 to 1:2

While some things may not be addressed as quickly as some would like, a lot of questions can be addressed with some diligence with the search feature and google and patience. Shantibaba and Mr. Nice are likely the most transparent company in the industry today, with their most popular strains alone being discussed at length in terms of breeding methodology and strain history. Few companies like to navigate those waters, but MNS has been braving those waters for sometime now.

ive just check with shanti and the nevils haze mango is 122mango x nevils haze. so no mango haze and also matches the breakup for the strain.

cheers

This seed is basically comprised of 12.5% skunk, 25% NL5, and 12.5%Haze A male, 50% Haze C male. The expected flowering time will vary considerably depending upon the chosen phenotype. Generally, it should be between 10-14 weeks with the possibility of slightly earlier if getting something towards the NL5 or Skunk side.

G`day CPF

Thats revealing bro TY very much .

I couldn`t work out how crossing NVL`s Hz to Mango Hz could pop out such heavy and early phenos . Now it makes much better sense .

answers to questions....

Hi All! My pleasure to post up some answers to questions related to the plant work.
Firstly please remember that the CBD-crew is not just me so I will answer general questions about this line but I am obliged by all the committee to keep protocol while we are completing some agreements, I hope you can respect this for the time being.
All CBD strains were selected only after the test results were in. We tested several hundred plants, including original mothers and fathers, S1 seed (which is sold in the packets of cbd crew), and many other seed lines to find appropriate starting point and gather a strategy of breeding. This breeding was done solely from established lines of plants to establish knowledge . So the simple answer is yes we did a huge amount of testing and there is no guess work at all involved .We found and still finding different CBD to THC ratios effect different conditions, however it is just too early to comment on specifics like this.

There is a place for all lines of work. The problem is the technology and the time it takes to get things established, if these are no issue then it already exists. As for establishing gene banks it is a perfect alternative to seed or living clone and a lot smaller and easier in spatial features to do, so it will have a place in cannabis future for sure.I do not know if you were aware our original company in Switzerland was named Gene Bank Technology ...not by coincidence.
?

Having a clone in seed form will be a way to spread original genes to all corners of the world in an identical replica...definitively a practical solution for standarizing a finished product and to produce things in other countries and set up production lines etc...l

The NH xMH was the NH female crossed to the 5Hz122.

What can you tell us about your nevilles haze x mango haze? Was the male used a NH or MH? Did you use the 5HZ122 female or a MangoF2?

Thanks

Thanks for the response Shanti! I can't wait to see what the future holds as you release more medical strains, keep up the good work.

The NH xMH was the NH female crossed to the 5Hz122.

That's exciting info about the Nh x Mh, I like that the seeds are 1 step away from the mango mother. That would make them roughly 60%HZ 40%NL w/ zero skunk. Did you mean to say NH male?

Mango Haze is 50% haze, 25% NL, 25% skunk

Nevilles Haze is 75% haze, 25% NL

So wouldn't NHM be approx 62.5% haze, 25% NL, and 12.5% skunk?

Little bit of skunk in there from the mango side I believe.

I am getting dizzy reading this... I will volunteer my time to edit/rewrite an SB update to all strains with more specificity if you're interested

Hi All

I will edit the strain page and try to update the photos also, i realise there are a few misleading details now , sorry.

Mango haze has both a female and a male side as it came out of an old batch of seed and both were selected by me in 2001 the same time as G13sk seed was also germinated from old seed. The MH female known as 122 selected at the same time as SSH came from a plant selection of Nevil`s around 1996-7.

All the best sb

Elmer or anyone kind enough to grace me with information, is 5Hz #122 shorthand for Northern Lights #5 X Haze Plant #122? Or is 5Hz yet another hybrid I was unaware of? Always assumed 5Hz was shorthand for the Nl5Haze.

In other words...SSH is Nevil's and it always will be but Mango Haze is mine and that is the strain that you need to buy from me...Shantibaba.

I knew I should have ordered MH instead of SSH but I didn't know why at the time.

does anyone else find it very confusing that we have been told MH is HzC122 x (skunk x haze A),
but then here shanti says he selected both the mother and father side in 2001, and that nevil found hzc122 in 96-97?

so is hzc122 the mother of MH or not?

Hi Shanti,
Your answer has created a bit more confusion because of the words you chose to use and an inconsistency with the details.

Question 1: The NH female
You used the phrase "NH female" to describe the mother of the Nev's Mango cross.

Are we to assume that this is an F1 selection from today's shipping Neville's haze?
-or-
Are you saying that you used the female (mother) of the Nev's haze parent line, and combined it with one of the parents of Mango haze?
(ie, that you combined the NH female (MOTHER) 5Hz(A2) with a male version of the Mango Mother 5Hz(C122)

Question 2:The Mango Male
The only way you could have a male version of 5Hz122 would be if during selection, you found the male 5HzC #122 to be the male TWIN of the female plant #122 from the same selection.
-OR-
If the female 5Hz122 (mother of Mango Haze) was reversed and the pollen used to fertilize the Nev's mother.

Please share the actual cross data in standard format with plant numbers.
Is it:
5Hz(A2) x 5Hz(C122) (reversed)
or is it
Nev's (F1) x 5Hz(C122) (reversed)
or finally
Mother plant x 5Hz(Cxxx)

Thanks Shanti

Hi Shanti,
Ah, okay. :) Cool, I should have been able to figure that out without having to put my thinking cap on. Makes sense, glad you cleared that up. Some of the confusion may lay in terms which have not always been traditionally used in MNS circles I would think.

The 5Hz you talk about is idd NL5xHzC
The 5Hz122 is a NL5HzC phenotype 122. This one and NL5HzC phenotype 1 were selected by Nevil as the best 2 pheno's of the 5HzC.
So it is a bit confusing when Shanti says he used the 122 as a father for the NHM...
Maybe the MH made with the 122 was used as motherplant for the NHxMH....?
So if that's the case the right formula would be:
NH x MH = NL5HzA(2)/HzC x SkHzA/5HzC122
Life's what you make it....
:)
