Understand. Chemotype trumps phenotype, always.
Just wondering if you had noticed the same thing in other strains that I have.

That HHG/Oakland haze sounds like a labor of love.
Is that your work Joshua?

I have some oHaze x NL5 hybrid seeds coming to me right now.

I don't know if I see it like that. I just think sometimes breeders get too caught up in the details. Chemotype, and phenotype could be the same thing. For example: this given phenotype is the most potent because of a chemotype we don't even understand.

I have to smoke it, to understand it.

We don't really understand chemotype, because we have just barely begun to identify all the psychoactive components of cannabis.

I know this because I have been checking out all these so called diesal chem OG derivatives over the last couple months that have been taking over the dispensaries, as a comparison to mine. A sour Deisal I smoked had registered 24% THC on the gas chromatagraph.

It could hardly phase me. This is because I am acclimated to haze. Thats how I know if I have a true haze. It gets me high every time, I don't build tolerance, and all these high THC candy buds don't even phase me when I smoke them, its like haze gives you immunity to Skunk#1 and Northern Lights.

I am convinced that there are probably several components at work here that are not THC. I have no Idea what they might be, they may be cannabinoids, or other unique chemicals found in cannabis.

If you want to know more about HHG and Oakland Haze I have a thread over in strain base.

you should get in touch with the people over at steep hills and get your stuff tested.

Its amazing what you can do with some of that info once you understand it.

And chemotypes have been figured out years ago, problem is mostly everything we smoke is the high thc type.

The Kush and Haze highs are totally different. From a good Haze I expect a long lasting euphoric, clear ,up high, with some energy.

From a good Kush ( Headband, Diesel,OG ) I expect a fast hard hitting headrush, that can actually put one on the floor on occation. That ,accompanied with euphoria and a slight bit of relaxation. For me, the main part of the Kush high, is the first 30 seconds. The Call, as some would refer to it as.

Natural pest discourager

Ive been having trouble with whiteflies in some of the gardens. The Azamax held them at bay for awhile, but Im too far into bud to use it now. I chopped several branches off a rosemary shrub, bruise it, and hung it in the sativas and hazes and above the garden. It reeks of Rosemary back there. I first gently disturbed the tiny moths from beneath all the leaves with a rosemary whisk. They hate it.:D

Heres the Panama Sativa. The branches of rosemary are hanging on its branches in the center

That's good advice, one of these days I want to get them tested, when I have time.

I know we do understand a lot about chemotypes,, but I believe that we do not even know the half of it.

I believe this simply because of the many African landraces I have smoked which absolutely blow away these high THC varieties in terms of effect. judging with my eyes from their comparatively low resin content, I would be surprised if they had more than a 5% THC content.

with my strains the disparity is not so obvious, because they have very high resin content as well, so they could have THC measuring 20% or higher, this would not surprise me.

I do however believe that we have it right for the most part when we say that the primary psychoactive ingredient in Cannabis is THC.

My theories which are loosely based on widely accepted theories, are that there are cannabinoids which as of yet have not been discovered, which effect the way that psychoactive cannabinoids like THC are CBD are metabolized.

We already know that compounds like Cannibinol and Tetrahydrocannabivarin effect the way THC is metabolized, I am merely going a step farther and saying that there are yet other compounds which have not been yet identified which even more profoundly effect the metabolization of THC in the CNS(Central Nervous System).

I concieved this theory as an explanation for why and how a single small toke of certain ratty, schwaggy looking, seedy landraces could get you more high than smoking multiple consecutive joints of some of these high THC varieties like Northern Lights #1, or Sour Deisal.

I believe that some of these theoretical cannibinoids could metabolically potentiate these psychoactive substances effectively increasing their psychoactivity exponentially.

there is a lot of interesting info being published about terpenoids and there synergistic effects. I think that would make a lot of sense. I've also personally noticed that some of the strains I've smoked that have at least some cbd (2% or so) are pretty great smokes.

Interesting too, the nerds at ole miss have recently discovered "new" cannabinoids in the plant. but i agree with you. Thats why i am excited about testing my next crop. I need to find a place that does terpenies too as I think thats where the biggest difference in cultivars may lie if you ask me.

Something to think about too is when smoking your only inhaling a very small percentage of that 20% thc. So is there much difference between 5% and 20% material, i'm not so sure. Granted you need less of the more potent stuff to get the same effect.

And i know a lot of older folks that would love some 5% weed.

i posted the paper in there last week

youd be amazed how much resin those african sativas pump out in the right environment josh ,,
absolutely stunning ,,
and very small trichomes ,, tiny little guys , but millions of them ..
the first contact i had on the net was a pretty lass in south africa ,
she sent me seeds ,
herb , and hash ,
we did a bit of trading back and forth ..
the hash she sent ,, mostly was the usual afghani stuff ..
but ,
the swazi charis she sent ,,
wow ,,
i d not had hash as resiny and oily before ..

the plants i grew from the seeds varied ,,
the nicest came from the swazi ,,
we had some durban poison ,
transeki , etc ,,

Haze can get you high for days but africans and mexicans can leave you pale faced laying on the ground asking for a glass of juice :D

you charming bastard Wal, and what of the flower betwixt her thighs? did you sample that?

lol bushy ,,
must admit when i saw the first photo she sent i was amazed ,
i guess the pretty dutch gals venture further than holland , hehe ..

very much reminded me of the aussie girls toughhess ..
i had another sa friend who visited her ,
said she sure was packing some goods ,,
kilos of durban poison ,
and a huge ducksfoot plant in the front yard ,,
visible to the passerbys that never gave it a second though apparently hehe ...

hey itsbeenfun ,,
my friend walked into the washing machine twice ,
on the way to the backyard to lay down after the swazi charis , hehehe
loved that african sativa ,,
could yarn about it all day ...

Oh I know Donald.

In Africa, I used to get this stuff in its natural environment, not the strains you are talking about, but other strains, for my own personal use.

They looked really bad. basically I would get what was generally referred to as a "stone", for the equivilent of around 3-5 us dollars.

Now the stone was probably around 2 to 4 ounces, but by the time I finished cleaning all the stems and seeds, I would usually be left with something that looked kind of like brownish oregano, and probably like around a half ounce.

Now these buds were so scrawny in most cases, that it was almost hard to call them buds. and they did have some kind of resin on them, but not copius by any means.

Of course the way that they dry and cure the buds probably doesn't help too much.

When I first got one of these stones I was skeptical because honestly, the worst mexican brick(non moldy) would look a lot more appetizing than this stuff.

Even the local ditch weed I used to get as a kid that gave me nothing much but a headache looked better honestly.

But this stuff was different. All of it was hands down stonier than any Mexican I used to smoke. And every once in while I would get lucky and come across something that was truly out of this world.

But it all looked basically like crap.

Now many years previously(almost 20 years ago) I had gotten some stuff in a different region of Africa, by the "Cob". This is the only stuff I had a chance to grow, it was Malawi gold.
We were able to bring a small pack of seeds back to US.

Malawi gold when I grew it, looked very a lot better then the cob of it I had gotten, but it was covered in trichomes, when I grew it myself, not like a modern cultivar, but it definitely had resin.

Aside from a few of its progeny crossed with my Haze hybrids, this Malawi, was hands down, the stoniest shit I ever smoked.

I also more recently smoked some stuff which was simply referred to as "Black" which totally blew my mind, as well as some other misc. strains that were mind crushing.

I think if you grew a lot of these strains out yourself they would look very different then how they look in their indigenous form, that was certainly the case with the Malawi.

But even in their indigenous form, while they look really bad, looks are very decieving, because some of these seedy stemmy ditchweed looking varieties were much stonier then the stoniest of modern cultivars I smoked in Amsterdam shortly afterwards.

I grew three different strains from Malawi, each were very uniform and very vigorous with a high yield. Two had smells of sweet spice, radish, musk, pine and the other had predominantly earthy smells with hints of the previously mentioned ones in the background. The smoke was smooth, and the aromas were reflected in the flavours.

I would have to agree about the resin - lots of coverage but not highly visible and I would describe it as 'greasy' feeling on the fingers. It was very potent with a clean/clear effect. Unfortunately the two best ones would develop male flowers in the last 4 or so weeks of an 18-20 week flowering cycle.

A trait i recall from quite a few of the african sativas i grew ,
it may not show elsewhere other than where i live and the time of year i grew it ,
i had at least 3 backyard plants that would be flowering whilst growing and veging at the same time ,
i was able to harvest mature buds ,
and there would be half mature ones ,
as well as ones just beginning ..

one particular plant i was able to harvest an oz every fortnight for months ,
the plants that just keep giving ,, hehehe ..

i noted the greasy , oily feel that mark commented on ..
some of the buds used to brown off as they dried ..

much value in the african sativas imho ...

not doubting your experience but the offerings from Afropips and African Seeds were not really "vigorous with a high yield". what were your seed sources?

I sourced my seeds in person. One lot came from a guy I met in Dar Es Salaam travelling north who had just left Malawi, another lot from a small village near Kande beach on the edge of lake Malawi, and the last lot from Llongwe. There was no doubt about the vigour and yield - all of the plants I grew were common in that regard.

Donald - I also noticed the one with the earthy aromas and flavours browned significantly when dried.

As long as we are on the subject of African genetics, anyone know of a good soarce anymore? Some of the best i ever grew were freebies from Gypsy, Sams Durban Poison x Skunk#1, heart racing stuff...

i've been looking for some Durban P. as I don't want to get a clone with more bugs on it.

Sensi seems to still have a "pure" line, the rest seem to be crossed to sk#1

I think cannabiogen has some africans too.

Hey thanks for the responce coop, I will check them out ASAP, browsed around the other night but nothing interesting turned up, so i thought to ask. SamS Durban x skunk was unuiqe, wish they were available today...

wonder what the sensi line is , or was , or has been , hehehe

i recall the durban skunk also itsbeen fun ,, grew a bunch of them and the other skunk crosses , as you said real nice stuff ..
i remember him saying there was intersexed probs with the dp ,
was worked on a lot to get rid of it ,,
cant remember whether it was successful or not ...

some of the durban poison i grew also did the same ,
guess its something to watch out for in that line ??/

I did try harnessing its power but was unsuccessfull, as all lines soured with itersexed plants, must be a recessive thing. But that F1 of SamS, i got a few gals that are unparalelled today, its hard to describe the high you got off those chunky, earthy buds. Their taste was repulsive, almost gaging most times, hard to smoke but quite the journey afterwards lol...scary high
