Plant breeder's rights or open source?

Not so much anything specific
Back in the 90's it was a dead-set no no to openly use another breeder's stock
And many ludicrous back stories were offered
Early 2000's pretty well same, and copying another producer's stock was frowned upon.
With the legalisation in USA, these days it seems everything is just another strain turned over.
Just wondering how the community felt..
Cheers

I don’t think it’s ripping anyone off unless you actually ripped off the seeds.
Seeds are sold for money
No agreement was signed or implied when purchased.
If however you decide to re-create a known variety , and sell that seed under that known variety name, then it is theft and fraud.
IMO
Once it’s out of the bag it belongs to the world.
Another reason why clone only is rarely shared in a pure form.
If you had a gold mine would you sell a map to it?
✌️
