MNS Medicine Man and Shark Shock grow

Finally got round to getting pics of the cured buds from this round. The shark is hands down some of the best smoke I've had in years, it is very potent! Getting some interesting terps when you break open the buds too. Going to be very difficult to choose which pheno to keep, they are all good! Going to make some crosses with them all before I choose though haha.

And the old Med Man I've had for a while now! Always does the job for me and too much of it will knock you the hell out 🤣

Wasn't sure where to post this question so will post it here in the hope that some of you legends can give me some advice 😀

I may have to go away for 5-6 weeks in October so I'll have to shut my grow down during that time. Now I have a heap of mother plants that I don't want to lose so I'll take cuttings before I go. My question is, what's the best way to keep cuts alive for 6 weeks without having anyone to help me with them? I was thinking of taking the cuts and keeping them in a container of water in the fridge and getting my wife to top up the water each week for me. She won't do anything else though as she doesn't want to know what I do for safety reasons haha.

Have any of you legends got any tips for keeping them alive or any other methods? Would they survive better if I wrap the bottom stem in wet paper towel and put in zip lock bags in the fridge or is it just better to put in a container and get my wife to change the water regularly? I've had cuts in the fridge last like that for a month before but they took a while to root for me after wards. I can't afford to lose these cuts of Med Man and Shark again 😣

Thanks in advance my matey's 💪

Hi @easty.
I would take fresh cuttings so there’s a small root mass. Keep them in a decent amount of organic type soil I use a pb 3/4 bag. Use just enough light to keep them healthy. I use household energy saving bulbs (around 23w). If it’s warm enough over there, keep them in a tray of water, maybe ask the wife to top up the tray every once in a while? Make sure there’s enough goodies in the soil for them. For your med man or any you can’t loose maybe do a few extras cuttings in the tray and maybe share a couple with others that you can always go back to.
Cheers
Fish

I would agree with @Fish about getting a bit of rootball & putting the cuttings in a soil mix.

Maybe something like a 16l plastic pot with the bottom half filled with a heavier soil/vermiculite mix to hold moisture and the top half with a soil/peatmoss/perlite mix to let the roots grow through. Stick all the cuttings in one pot & label. Chuck a clear bag with a few breathing holes punched in over the top to keep humidity up and a bit of light to keep them ticking over.
I prefer using CFLs for cuttings - good spectrum, bit of warmth, and the growth is slow & steady.

This could be watered from the drip tray if needed, so less chance of accidental overwatering.

Maybe take cuttings at start of Sept?

Seems like a long time to be gone. Perhaps set up an automated watering system with ample storage?

Edit: if you add a humidifier perhaps it would take longer to dry out. Just dont let them rot

Great suggestions, thank you fellas! @Fish so you reckon they would just keep ticking over for that time? I have a big tent with some Viparspectra LED's that I could turn down to 25% or possibly lower if you think that would work? I could also fit a few containers of water in there too 🤔

@DannyTwoJoints great idea too with the heavier soils at the bottom too 💪

@Diesel840 definitely going to set up an auto watering system. If I managed to get 2 X 27L tubs that would be 10L of water per week, not that they would need that much! Good tip mate, thank you 💪

Yep they will tick over so long as they are controlled and don’t suffer any problems. In a tent, low power on your LED, irrigation and young plants in small pots you’ll be fine.

Thanks mate! I'm thinking soil might be the best way to go and set up a simple watering system on a timer but the autopot idea sounds great too!
