Thanks for the welcome everyone. I eagerly await my first MNS order... I have La nina, G13 x Widow, Angel Breath and I selected Shark Shock for a bronze pack I won. I won't be able to run more than 7 plants at once so I have to decide who to go with first...
Did you hear about cacti falling over dead in Phoenix because of the extreme heat caused by climate change?
Hi Diesel, I did not, but I know when a saguaro takes a tumble it can get very messy!
I'm also very interested in your cacti collection, I also have a few
Hi Swifty, I have a fair sized collection, especially considering I live in an inappropriate climate! Went on hol for a week and came back to a thrip/RSM outbreak so they aren't looking their best ATM but I'll take a few snaps soon and pepper a post with some. Nice to know there are some others into them too!
Like @Swifty I'm another cacti fan - I have some San Pedro & Peyote older than my teenage kid! I don't know how they survived that long as they haven't had too much care & attention (the cacti, not the kid). I started some Peyote from seed this year, my first time, so I may pester you for advice. I already had a close call by letting them get sunburn when I left them on a windowsill and went on holiday for a week
Hi DannyTwoJoints - yeah they can reach a grand old age for sure, my oldest ones certainly have many age related scars/marks etc much like my good self! Peyote from seed are quite slow, but nothing like an aztekium for example - you can actually water them and feed them much more than most online sources suggest. Also whilst they do love a mineral substrate, don't be afraid to use organic matter, I've been watching a guy who's grown one aquaponically in his outdoor pond for over a year now, so much of the traditional advice for growing them is being questioned... although I must admit I am happy to grow them slowly myself! I presume you are using some version of the "takeaway tek" so the main challenge is usually remembering about them!
Anyhow, thanks for the warm welcome all, I'll be back in a bit, you know how it is!
