Early Skunk diary long overdue

WHOOPS LOOKS LIKE I CROSS POLLINATED 🤦‍♂️ Seeds seen popping all over when I put my 👃 in close to describe aroma’s. I’m gonna have 1980’s weed, no sinsemilla here 😱
So…..
Last month I used C.S. to feminize Angel Heart #1 and while the pods were maturing, since space became an issue I figured I could allow the pods to mature and open in the veg room. My thought was how can you pollinate/impregnate a plant that hasn’t been flipped a flower. Apparently you can, if the timing is justtttt right.
I checked my calendar and there was a one or maybe two day period where pollen from Angel ❤ could have floated around the veg room right when I removed Early 🦨 and moved to tent to flower.
It was my understanding that pollen would only live 48 to 72 hours max, so figured it would not be possible to impregnate the girls within such a short window of being flipped to flower.
I’m glad I kept good notes because there’s no way I would’ve remembered this. It’s the only pollen in the house and they are definitely no hermaphrodites throwing pollen within the early skunk. Always goes to show that there’s so much more to learn.
Early Skunk x Angel Heart(Indica dominant)= Knuckle Head 😂
Doesn't look like a bad cross imo

5 weeks flowering and filling the tent nicely with buds.

Obviously theirs 1 outlier, we’ll see if she takes longer to finish too.

Added fish bone meal, Stonington blend fertilizer and worm castings last week.
I don’t see these girls finishing in the 7 week window as advertised, but I suspect we have some eight weeker’s in here.
Aromas developing from sweet to skunky.
And down the stretch they come…💐☮️

6 weeks 🌹 today. Real mix, which makes sense considering genetic makeup.

Front R, ES#1, seems to be the quickest, and also has the sweetest smell. Will dial in close 🔬this week and see how the Tri’s b doin. 🤞she’s the quick 7-8 weeker. It would be nice to have a quickie 🤩 and replicate the quickie for the short windows.
494FD568-0EEC-4AB3-91D8-193514604312.jpeg Tallest girl by far. Different indescribable scents so far. She gonna take her time. ⏰
9AE94B11-9DF3-4E5F-A456-ACAAF8E8AE5F.jpeg The 🦨iest so far, but nothing too stinky, yet.

7 weeks flowering for Early Skunk. Advertised to be ready is as early as 7 weeks, AND YOU KNOW WHAT???
For 1 girl I’d say that’s possible 😲

ES#1 is showing beautiful trichomes that, IMO, within range to be harvested, if desired, at 7 weeks.

I know from a far it doesn’t look like they could be ready, but up close says differently.

D0D6D166-AC70-4D5B-959E-A8DF5BC1B4A9.jpeg The main purpose of this run for me is to find a quick finisher, 7-8w, that is also tasty.
🏆 This one girl will be ready by eight weeks, and she’s sweet smelling, not skunky. While 🦨 was #1 choice, sweet works for me, so since Itsa 8 weeker I’ll use a clone to mother and extend. 🥇

8 weeks today and I chose 2 to harvest 1st. I usually wait for more amber, but this runs goal was to find a quickie, so this will be a good comparison to see if I notice a difference.

This one, #6, is more resinous, sparkling as hell, albeit the flash exaggerates, along with a much more skunky/skanky/stinkiness to it than its sister. Both plants very similar in short height and structure. They’ll get chopped tonight once they reach 36 hours of darkness and then hang to dry.
The remaining sisters all have a good week or two, or more, and will see how they deal with the quickly Colding weather. Night times are ready into the 40s 🥶 so even though the light adds 15 to 20° to the tent, it’s usually not this cold regularly at night until a month from now. ☮️

8 1/2 weeks and I really NEED to stick to my FIND A QUICKIE PLAN, especially since I need the tent for the final garage grow of the season. I have, probably too many, clones of early skunk, the cure and spice that I flipped 2 weeks ago that need this final destination:

I know it’s not the greatest picture, but I wanted to give a little perspective. Will get to the one in the back right corner shortly.

Four out of the remaining six look about similar to this example, which also shows one of the many Early 🦨 feminized seeds I accidentally crossed. Nice mistake. Tri-combs have some Amber so I’m not heartbroken to harvest at 9 weeks this weekend. But I’m going to run the remaining 2 a bit longer. Especially this one:

I don’t know, but since Early 🦨 has an Early Pearl mother, that this offspring is her Sativa, presumably Haze genes.
For an aroma challenged 👨‍🌾 , I can tell you that the first thought when I with 👃 these buds is 🐈 piss.
Don’t know if that means anything, but this lady is also topped once and is still as tall and lanky as seen. I wasn’t looking for another 10+ weeker, but I’d be 🤪 not to take one of her clones and start my replication process. So I will starting tomorrow. Seems like the potential for a nice surprise 🐈

10 weeks flowering EARLY 🦨 and I’ve harvested 7 of 8.
2 went 8 weeks, are jarred and developing 1 sweet and 1 skunky aroma.
4 were harvested at 9 weeks. Hung for 6 days and started cure this weekend.

Yeh, 💩 i7 photos, but the yield is consistently between an ounce to an ounce and a half. That includes popcorn bud that I use for edibles, tinctures and salve. That’s those on the right.

Harvested 1 yesterday at 10 weeks. She has the most bulbous buds and will probably yield the most so far.
That leaves 1 last girl who isn’t even close at 10 weeks.

Yup, I’m organically yielding a 🕷 mite colony and 🐞 all you can eat buffet…

This one has a totally different structure, obviously sativa dominant. It continues to grow and the buds are very sweet smelling though not dense, hopefully not yet. I may have contributed to the lack of denseness issue with my spider mite friends, but she still has weeks to go so it will be interesting to see what happens.
Though it’s still early in the curing process, I have yet to get a real stinky 🦨 example, though I’ve certainly smelt plenty of sweetness.

Impressive results @Skuncle Lenny!(y)
Love the ladybugs, they are having a real massacre amongst the spider mites I bet.

I also had past grows with this problem, I hung my plants upside down to dry as normal and after 2 days all the mites had migrated to the highest part of the plant (end of the stalk) and they where everywhere on the line to. Scary stuff!:p

I agree with your observation of the northern migrating spider mites when you hang the plant to dry. I take that as my opportunity to use a mini blow torch to fry them all. I find them to be irritants, not crop busters. Also a good reason to have ladybugs, they’re so darn cute and helpful 😂

30 day post harvest smoke report & more…
1st 8 weeker, sweetie, and high is stronger than expected, especially 30 days 🤪
- Aroma is sweet and a bit hashy.
- Smoke is smooth, earthy/hashy.

2nd 8 weeker, sourpuss, is also a good head hitter 🤯.
- Aroma is definitely tangy/sour smelling.
- Smoke is smooth and neutral.
*** FUN FACTS ***
1) The cross pollination from Angel Heart, aka Early Angel 😝, has produced a very nice, manageable number of seeds from each plant. A few dozen of each.
2) THERES STILL 1 Early 🦨 lady still going! WTF 😳 12+ weeks and she’ll probably finish next week.
8A350612-26FA-4A33-834D-AE3F94B973BC.jpegVery different than its sisters. Fluffier and longer buds that are just starting to firm up, but will never firm up to the hardness of the other plants. Very sweet smelling, candy like. Not super sticky.
Early 🦨 seems to have some complex heritage, so I’ll go out in a limb here and guess that this has something to do with the Mexican or Colombian or Thai heritage?
All I know is that it will take 13+ weeks so it should be worth the journey. From my understanding, the ones that stand out the most tend to be the most rewarding so 🤞

15 weeks tomorrow and being chopped for this anomaly, Last but not least, Early Skunk 2022. Nothing like the other phenos.
3F386300-CA13-4D89-88B7-9FDBCC3D8C67.jpeg
Fluffy buds that never firmed up. Trichomes are maybe 20% amber.
1922FE25-F12B-437D-8200-A1F5317E0F9C.jpeg
Very sweet, candy like smell to the squeeze and smell test. It will be interesting to see how it cures.

I have 2 clones from the quickest finisher, 8 weeks, that I’ll use to extend the line. 8 weeks give it a chance outside to finish b4 too wet n cold.
Aside from this last anomaly, all of the Early 🦨 were rather uniform, not too big in nature, and would be very suitable for a Scrog.

SMOKE REPORT AND EXCELLENT FEEDBACK
1) The earliest finisher at 8 weeks packs of potent punch, and is working great for people for a nighttime Indica. Sweet tasting, with a skunky finish/after taste.
2) The late finisher, the 15 weeker, is at the other end of the spectrum. I’m presuming it’s Early Pearl genetics that have really slipped through, as it’s an excellent sativa that does not trigger any anxiety for those who are susceptible. Similar taste, though opposite fluffy structure.
3) Clones of 8 weeker are growing nice and staying small and bushy, now about 3 months old. 1 is being sprayed with C.S. for 2 weeks now and starting to see pods, while 2nd will be used for a few more clones for next year outdoors, and then I’ll pollinate with the feminized pollen and probably another 4 weeks or so.
Having an 8 weeker & 15 in the same family is unique. I’m a happy Skunkle 🦨
