Sounds a lot like my Uncle, 'Big John', who was also 6.5 feet tall, and the biggest rum runner on the Canadian east coast, during the Prohibition Era. He supplied Capone.

My grandfather was his youngest brother and built the high speed boats from scratch which delivered the booze down the coast into the NY Harbor.
