EARLY QUEEN: hangin with the queens

HELLO ALL! WELCOME TO 'eQ: hangin with the queens'.

INTRO:
let me start by saying how excited i am to finally kick off this thread as ITSBENFUN and myself have been talking about it for probably a month now.. it all started when we struck up a friendship in part because we both had the eQ lined up as our next strain to work with.

in our pm conversations, it became clear that during the period leading up to our final decision to commit to ordering (and thus working with) the line, that we both felt frustrated by the lack of information on the girl.. sure, there was a description, a few isolated growthreads, but not any one rich resource we could sink our teeth into.

SO WHAT'S A GROWER TO DO!? ...-we start it ourselves!

jondojoando-albums-eq-picture3548-eq4-day26.jpg
4386-albums347-picture3548.jpg

*day26 of flowering.this is the seedplant after a cut was taken.

the first thing i should make clear, is the concept we had- this is not our eQ growthread; this thread is to belong to the MNS community! - anyone either working with, or is simply curious about the eQ, if that's you, then this is YOUR thread. so please feel free to post your grows, pics, questions and any other eQ related piece of string that u can think of!!

-for 'eQ;hangin' to succeed, we are totally dependant on the input, combined knowledge, experience and generosity of the MNS community.

- it is our hope that this won't b a disposable thread, but that with time, it will grow into a valuable resource for anyone wanting to get a good feel for the line-

-any and all information on the strain, it's parental lines, history etc.. will be highly appreciated. i've also sent a pm to both Nev and Shanti informing them of our intentions re this thread and to invite them to contribute to it as they see fit.. so we've got that to look forward to, fingers crossed!! .. beyond that, do as thou wilt and with all respect.. sweet? sweet!! ..jj

Hi JJ :)
Things are looking great from the start, I will be sure to keep an eye on the EQ's progress. The EQ is a line I will be working with again in the future, and I believe with some selection very worthy plants exist within its make up. A refreshing view and reminder of what the forum is really for. Keep up the good work.

baby steps..

thanks J! i was kinda nervous!? , havin planned it so long ago.. i was tellin itsbenfun that its kinda like opening a restaurant, wonderin if nEone would turn up for dinner on opening night, what if they didn't like the food?... u never really know if people r gonna take up the idea n run with it, or if it'll flop!

- hey J, ur always posting the maddest essays on strains... feel like writing ?????.. ha ha.
Hi JJ :)
.. I believe with some selection very worthy plants exist within its make up.

- yeah. i'd love to know the age of the parents.. gotta b a good reason for keepin em around, right?

-personally with the eQ, i was looking for a reliable 'workhorse' strain.. gettin concerned i might have to retire my ak. that day will come so i thought i'd better start looking now.. the eQ seemed to tick all the right boxes for me.. fast, hardy, mold resistant, low(ish?/er?) smell factor, good yield/time ratio... almost too practical, it seemed.. u know boys and their toys.. fast women, fast cars!!but i told myself if i went for one of the more glamorous 'sexy' models, i wouldn't have my priorities right.

-so did i choose right? NO IDEA (well, not much of one, nEways!). so that's the angle i'll bring to the table- and i'll know the answer in the next 6 months.. fingers crossed for all concerned!!.. .

-baby steps for a baby thread... here's some baby pics. ..

i am going to get some eq for outdoor this year hopefully. last year didn't go to plan but a new year and new luck hopefully.:) i just put some shit in and early skunk once these are done i will be putting early queen in ready for selection for outdoor this year. i am hoping to find some that flower under 13 or 14 hours of light to take cutting from. then i will just flower the mothers under lights and pull a fast male to make seeds. good luck with your grow i am watching for tips.

:D Howdy partners,

JONDOJOANDO you kicked this thread off with style my freind. You encapsulated our ideas and hopes in a single post. I tip my hat to you.

Like JJ said we have discussed starting this communal thread for a couple of months now, and we hope this will help many growers.

I live in a northern cold climate and do alot of outdoor, so EQ was not a hard choice for me to make. Especially after growing both EG and EP from sensi in mid '90s. Both did exellent indoor and out. EG is suprisingly potent and i chose a pheno that grew like a single cola from dirt to tip and finished around 4'. Great feature for production as you can pack many plants into a space without crowding. EP was also a joy to grow, very flavorfull and again suprisingly potent for such an early finisher. Never any mould, indoor or out. Both finish outside in september which seals the deal for me being its -15 and 2' of snow right now.

I am exited to grow these strains as a combined force. I am a bit behind JJ, but like he said this thread is "under construction". I got some new toys for christmas, a 5' x 5' tent, 1000watt dimable HPS, so this will be the home for my queens. This week they will be going into 2 gallon pots and under the HPS, couple of weeks untill i can get cuttings from each and then they can do what they do in the tent, boys and girls, for i want to have plenty of seed for my freezer, then i will narrow it down to a couple of ladies and maybe a gent...

Peace

keepin them down

hey all..
To keep it exclusively Early Queens I've pulled the White Widow and replaced it with another EQ clone
damn, whinavi. don't let this thread make u pull a widow?!
My main problem is that continual pruning delays the onset of flowers so I'm hoping that someone with more knowledge than me can suggest a time in the growth cycle when I should leave them alone as the main point of growing EQ's is to get finished as early as possible.
instead of continuously cuttin em back, try tying them down. tie/bend the individual limbs so they grow horizontal..
EG is suprisingly potent and i chose a pheno that grew like a single cola from dirt to tip and finished around 4'.
hey, fun. wish u had a pic of that! though my pics from the '90s were all polaroids.. the blurry kind.

If memory serves me right, this one was EG x WW. I have bunches of those also and they just dont do the plants justice like a nice digi cam:D

itsbenfun-albums-some-old-pics-picture3685-278.jpg

Very similar structure to the EG.

EP I remember being more like the MNS pic of EQ. Instead of going to a point atop of the cola like a spade shovel, it was wide and flat like a flatnose shovel.

itsbenfun-albums-early-queen-picture3687-earlyqueen-3.jpg

^^Wonder if this isnt the EP mom????

Also note the trichome structure on the MNS pic, soft fuzzy looking, smaller in general. Remenicent of EP to me.

they're just kids

*hey fun., regarding that mns pic, i always thought it was a customer submission; rather than an 'official' mns photo...

okay, so i'd decided to introduce the queens to my garden in waves of about 4 at a time..early Queen.jpgearly Queen_.jpg,

..once they're ready, i take a cut-give it a couple days to make sure the cut is happy then throw the seedplant into the flower room
jondojoando-albums-eq-picture3558-eq-4-3-2-1-f-m-f-m.jpg

these r the eQ cuts from the 1st wave(the 4 closest in the pic). ..soon i would discover their sex. the ones in this pic, from left to right, f m f m.

that's a happy cut!.jpg *now that's a happy cut!
till my nxt post, cheers .. . .jj

Glad to see you 2 doing this... I've been scouring for info on this strain also. I hope to get a few packs for OD this year...maybe I'll be able to help with pics this fall.

itsbeenfun- you a badger,a gopher or a wolverine? Badger here.

Originally a Gopher, evolved into a Badger. Any and all info pertaining to EQ is welcome here north. Hope you do join in on the communal grow, would be great to add yet another perspective!:D

it's a boy!

so here is a boy i'm kinda excited about. i like it's leaf and general structure.. it is not too branchy, having a more 'kept' growth pattern. extra branching is easy to induce via bending, but a branchy plant means constant pruning to maintain. add up all that pruning time over the period of a year, and, well.. that's a lot of time!

jondojoando-albums-eq-picture3572-eq-3-its-boy.jpg

here is a structure study picture.. early days i know, but still, he's a handsome one!
jondojoando-albums-eq-picture3573-eq-3-male-structure-study.jpg

-also note in the first pic, the build up of resin!! nice.

Awesome thread

I grew one Early Queen outdoors a couple years ago.She was very sativa.Kinda looked like apollo11.A friend gifted me another pack he couldn't get to and I'll start looking for a good pheno out of those soon.
Excited to see what y'all come up with too :)

excellent, budluver. hope u plan on joining this communal venture. when u planning on starting them? i agree with u on the sativa statement. i've only just started with mine, but the thin blades have got me excited as my experience is mostly with the chunky leaf varieties.. my eQs don't seem to have the archetypal sativa-stretch, though..just the leaf character and perhaps sativa leaning bud structure. though it still is early days..
stay tuned... next post we'll check on the 2 seedplant girls in the flower room. there the sativa influence will b evident. ... jj

Good to see you guys working with Early Queen. I've been thinking of giving her a go myself. Especially after Nevil recently revealed that she is actually NL5Hz(122?) x EPSK.

I crossed the EP.SK to NL5Hz1 and to NL5122. Early Queen. That 4 way produced some amazing plants. Now and again you'd get a full on Haze effect, Sk1 bud structure, earlyness and that Oaxacan like fragrant zing from the EP and the resin and weight from the NL5. All that and hybrid vigour too.

http://www.mrnice.nl/forum/71380-post30.html

I was kind of surprised as the catalog has always said stuff like:
"Early Californian blends with a touch of Mexican, Early Pearl x Early Girl x Super Skunk"

REALLY...

Hmmm... Well that is weird. Kind of deceiving the description is if that is indeed the case. Oh well i already bought them and they're growing!

JJ- Looking good!

MNS description-"Since the beginning of the 1990s, this THREE WAY HYBRID has earn acclaim in the cultivators world. It is quick to finish both indoors and outdoors and is, therefore, perfect for cold climate countries in the northern hemisphere. The flowering cycle is expected to be between 6-8 weeks with indoor cultivation. Expect harvest time in the northern hemisphere as early as September and in the southern hemisphere by March. The yields will surprise the victims. The genetic composition of this breed stems from early Californian blends mixed with a touch of Mexican. So, Signor Cultivator, enjoy your Early Queen and her fruits like a happy farmer should , real early, real juicy, and the real thing!"

MNS pedigree-"Early Californian blends with a touch of Mexican, Early Pearl x Early Girl xSuper Skunk"

http://www.mrnice.nl/forum/5-strain-base/2867-family-tree-mns-strains.html

Also you guys could be seeing a Super Skunk Pheno or just a good mix of whatever sativa is in EP(Polyanna?) and SS, im sure it can go the other way too.

itsbenfun-albums-strains-i-ve-grown-picture3650-266.jpg

I remember posting in there, but my mind was on breeding for traits not EQ.

Wonder if we couldn't get a confirmed answer to this???

so what's in an eQ??

nice one wonkadonk. this is what we were hoping for.. the more members having they're say, the more info we can pack into this thing.. thanks to everyone who have participated.. keep it comin guys! cheers all round! jj

I wouldn't mind growing a good one in Kanga's back yard. I'd show you some yields.
N.

yeah, i'd really like to get some clarification on the matter myself!
i could try guessin, till we know more..

** i think Nev was talkin about what mated well with the EP.SK. The EP.SK to NL5 is the SILVER PEARL. the EP.SK to NL5Hz1 is the SILVER HAZE/ EARLY SK HAZE?
*in Rosenthal's Big Book of Buds, the eQ's genetic composition is described thusly-- '...a cross between early Californian blends mixed with African and a touch of Mexican'

-so we get the African from the early pearl (durban)..
-the mexican part is an estimated 12.5%, being that the skunk#1 was crossed with an afghani to get the superskunk.

NEV, SHANTI, CAN U GUYS HELP US OUT!!???

girls girls girls

Damn, it took awhile, but we finally get to check on the 2 girls... (there's also a 3rd girl confirmed so far that'll be joining soon)
jondojoando-albums-eq-picture3721-eqs-belladonnas-day22.jpg

*day 22 ..up top, eQ#4 on the left, eQ#2 on the right. the 2 plants closer to the camera are another new strain i'm trialing, paradise's belladonna.

my knowledge of the different varieties is very rudimentary. yeah, i'v read the books, but not worked the plants.. but so far the main difference between the 2 is #4 is way more sativa in it's leaf - Early Pearl.. whereas #2 leans more to the superskunk.

*okay so for this post, i'm gonna focus on eQ#4...

Speculation...

Common sense tells me to stick with the MNS description/pedigree/ect.. I can only offer some experience with the parental lines via sensi seeds early/mid 90's stock. Not alot, but more than nothing. The 3-way hybrid surely will deliver some diversity on its own. Speculating on a possible misinterperted quote sounds like a 21st century battle ground in the making, and we are simply in search or the real EQ and everything that surrounds her. No offense wonkadonk, nevil, no wish for an argument, only peace. There is some history behind all 3 varieties and i invite everyone to be their own "sherlock holmes" on those strains. The 1985 seedbank catolog thread can tell you alot, and in time the grows contributed here will speak for themselves.

A confirmation, or some relavant history would be sweet though.

JJ-Pics are turning out exellent! Way to show off your skills! I will jump in with pics as soon as they are ready!

Peace
