I thought bubblegum was a Big Bud x NL x SK? But what does anyone know (except the breeder) when it comes to lineages really?

It really is nothing but he said she said period IMO :)

IMO it's linked to the X, but I have about as much evidence as you have that it's autosomal. Which indirect evidence are you referring to?
We're guessing and that's about all we can do without evidence.
N.

Yeah, you're right. I guess we can only infer it's not linked to the Y.

not true at all unless your saying Shanti's stuff hermies that easily ,,, I did not flip them quickly back n forth , im 38 and been around male and female plants my entire life , my parents grew too

i know a male a female and a hermie , my female was just that , A FEMALE , it turned MALE not HERMIE , so please explain without the bs light flipping hermie creating stress because this is no stressed plant other then the light flipping , that was done over time not quickly

I wish I was 38. I do have a date with this fine ass, absolutely gorgeous tall 21 year old hottie. Im scared like shit shes gonna ask my age too.I may have to lie and say Im younger. Been smokin since 1969, growing since 71 or 72. I dont have all the answers, thats why Im here

Anyway, back to the plant. I have had alot of trouble in My attempts to get XX females to flip male and make good pollen. The ones I suspect are XY, are the same ones that will flip male and stay male at the drop of a hat

Nothing about Blueberry has ever made much sense to me, if it weren't such great weed I'd have avoided it due to the confusion.
The plant has great structure and if it's also great weed, then it's a tribute to who ever bred it, regardless of any confusion about it's pedigree. People can only repeat what they are told. I need to smoke it.

I didn't grow that plant, a friend of mine did from seeds I made. I received some seeds from a Canadian guy called buggsy, he told me he received seeds from DJ Short in 97 or 98, and thought it was the best line he had grown, he told me that a good Blueberry male improved anything it touched. He sent me some seeds he made from the original ones he received, only one gen removed from the originals, I grew them out and was very impressed. I had 4 or 5 males and I put them through a ton of stress tests and made hash from them, the one I chose produced a yield of hash that was unusually large for a male and I could barely tell it apart from the has made from the females. I used him on the best female which was similar to the one pictured. It is from those seeds that the plant pictured was grown.

I don't have any more pure Blueberry seeds, the ones I kept didn't germ, sadly. I did make a ton of crosses using the Blueberry male though and still have plenty of those.

A friend still has a pure Blueberry cut from the same seeds that I made, it is very similar to the one pictured in terms of structure, taste, smell and high, the one thing it lacks is yield, it grows less dense buds that don't weigh as much. He has made some hybrids using that female.

The Blueberry male I used did indeed improve everything he touched, the best pot I've ever grown or smoked was this Blueberry leaning pheno of Zamal/Nev's Haze x Blueberry, you can clearly see it is a direct descendant of the Blueberry.

There is still hope of saving this Blueberry line, a friend told me a few days ago he still has some seeds of it I gave him 3 years ago, when I showed him the pics of that Blueberry Nev found interesting he decided he was gonna grow them right away. He is a great grower and has promised to let me have cuttings of all the plants, so I think I'll open pollinate between em all as I dearly want this strain back in my life. If we manage to get it sorted Nev, I'll make sure you get to smoke some, very keen to see what your innate identifying senses tell you it might be composed of.

I can add that I had a Dutch Flowrs Lemon Thai do the same thing BH's plant did a few pages back. A full blown male, went through 8 months of veg, a full flowering cycle showing only staminate flowers, then after a full year of life as a happy male, tossed pistils. I know DJ says these will produce more female offspring, but I just can't get myself behind the thought of using intersex plants to breed with.

Also, I have heard the A5 clone in south holland, after nearly 20 years has popped bananas and is no longer growable. The guy is a top notch grower from what I hear from my friends, and the reason for it herming is totally unknown. Solid female with no signs of hermaphroditic tendencies for 17 + years, all of a sudden popped nuts. Environment? Maybe, of course that is the first suspect. But, no changes in the grow for environment for that long has to lead you to question other causes.

No scientific info to add here, just observations that relate to the convo.

That would be very bad news about the A5 if it turns out to be ungrowable. Longest I've kept a clone going is 6 years, still have her and she grows exactly as she did the first time I ran her, and I've nearly lost her a few times so she has been through all kinds of stresses, still no change.

Thanks for the info on the Afghan Azra'eil. I have never grown any of chimera's work but I have a friend who did some of his strains such as Mental Floss and Fighting Buddha, they were excellent, the Mental Floss he selected was stunning, heavily Blueberry leaning.

Maybe it has something to do with the plants survival triga from the lack of pollination as its role is to produce flowers get pollinated and make seed then die and basically make sure the process agine repeated in its off spring.

As its not being pollinated as we want seedless flowers the plant starts to produce a hormone in which it allows its self to ether show a male part on the fem plant or a female part on a male part only so it can produce seed to continue the species into the next season / generation.

I have seen a few out door plants produce a single seed not long after the flowers have started to form now it had me scratching my head as there was no males around and were talking 1 single seed here on a huge plant if a male flower even a single one was made you would seed more than one seed but this seed was growing basically were the branch shoots out of the main steam.

I think we have a lot to still Lorne and unlock from the cannabis plant and other living organisms i know the cannabis plant is a living thing it has a form of intelligence to.

I met DJ at his class and asked him about his afghani in blueberry. I stated "I thought I read somewhere that you said the afghani you used was Afghani#1" He responded with a very quick no, offering no additional information. If I'am not mistaken Afghani#1 was half skunk #1. So I asked "what afghani did you use." He stated, "one from California." And quickly moved to another persons question. He seemed very evasive about it. I couldn't understand why he would be.

BH mentioned that a friend of his that gave him the blueberry said it improved anything it touched. Kind of like skunk #1.

I also inquired about DJ's newer strains. He stated that "the guys that made these varieties in Canada." I started thinking the guys that made these? WTF? I think DJ just said he didn't make the strains. When I inquired about Flodica's sterility issues and certain traits of other varieties he was not speaking in the first person he always said "the guys in Canada."

I don't think DJ makes his seeds anymore or something. I think he probably oversees things but is not as directly involved as most of his customers presume.

IMO DJ got lucky a couple of decades ago with some bagseeds. I think he improved everything he had by crossing it to the Afghani#1 (which was half skunk). This is exactly what he claims was the downfall of many great sativas. Crossing everything to Skunk, NL, and other high yielding "profit oriented" varieties. My hunch is most of the things DJ writes about are things he knows he should do but does not actually do. Many of us give advice in the areas that we wish internally we were stronger at IMO.

That being said I recently popped 9 out of 10 of his new Whitaker Blues. And I probably will pop many more of his varieties, I like many of them. I just don't think I will ever know what they really are, or who made them anymore.

Hope This Is More Informative Than Inflamatory,

PS - I'm starting to get a similar feeling to high school where certain "cliques" are ignoring me. I thought you ignore trolls? Am I a troll? I didn't think I was. I come in peace. Actually I come in my girl, and she's half my age BobBitchin. :) We got a kid on the way. 8)

Afghani #1 isn't half skunk, it's a pure Afghani, a nasty, accrid one, there is nothing remotely accrid of nasty and foul in any of DJ's work so I expect the Afghani he used was very different to Afghani #1. As I said earlier, I reckon it was one of the sweet Afghans with a Blueberry taste/smell such as Dabney Blue, which is from north California.

Skunk #1 doesn't improve everything it touches, it improves bud structure and calyx to leaf ratio but when it comes to character of taste and high it doesn't improve anything. This is why the Dutch skunk hybrids are all good in commercial aspects - good yield, easy to trim, easy to grow, but lack character, they crossed everything to skunk and homogenised things to a large degree.

First question I would ask DJ if I met him would be 'why is the Blueberry of today nothing at all like the old 90s one?' I mean, it's like they aren't even related.

When DJ mentioned 'guys in Canada' I expect he was referring to Red who runs Legends Seeds, Chimera and the guy behind the new incarnation of Spice of Life, maybe others as well. He has worked closely with them in the past and provided them with parental plants to use in their own work. Maybe DJ just selected the parentals for the new strains, sent them upto Canada and got the guys there to do th actual seed production from DJ's parentals? As long as DJ is doing the parental selection and the seed making is being done properly I don't see a problem with him working with others. It is the same as Shanti making seeds of lines originally bred by Nevil such as SSH and Nev's Haze in that Nev sleected the parents, then passed them on to someone else to do the actual seed production.

Hi All

in between countries and thought to add my 2 cents on this thread...

Well IMO most people who call themselves breeders are not really adventurers and collected all their seed for their breeding. I mean most people relied on friends or sources they met for origins of seeds. So the whole basis of the seed breeding is in doubt most of the time.

The thing that is important in the end is having parent plants that breed true for certain traits and these are the real basis for breeding. In the MNS camp at least our parent plants are of consistent genetics and all over 15 years(minimum) with alot of growers experiencing them. Certain differences are due to selection(as this is the main reason for certain traits) by individuals and this is what makes things unique. So in a way all of you who choose to grow any strains from any outlet should at least review another growers thread of this strain to have a general overview of what to expect before going there...if strains do not have grow threads then one should be a little dubious of what a company writes until the f1 seed is grown by another independent grower....

Ok hope for the rest all members are enjoying smoothness with the new server and i will be back in a week to answer the pms and other medical enquires so be well and all the best till then Sb

yes males can , when they produce female parts , so i guess strictly speaking it is an intersexed plant,, they can certainly pollenate themselves and produce seeds ...
most folks destroy the males in their grows , crops ,, ive grown many to and past maturity ,, and seen plenty of them show to be intersexed, many strains , not just one or two ...

always grow them until the end is my advice, and on males with female parts ala Djs reverse hermie.. remember he noted a higher percentage of female progeny from this type.. I'm guessing because it has mostly x genes so not a "real" male....

He states they are still from the same 1:1 parents that they always were....
and as to those in Canada

Canada, The True North Strong and Free

With glimmers of hope on the horizon, Canada is fast becoming the Cannabis Breeding capital of the world. With the much-appreciated activism of entrepreneurs such as Marc Emery (et. al.), a new haven for a seriously dedicated cannabis community is developing. One such entrepreneurial dedicate is Red of Legends Seeds. I met Red in Switzerland where he was very busy and involved working for the happening community there. Red is a high-flying, free spirit with a savvy sense of taste.

Red was able to orchestrate the necessary requirements to produce a very large selection process. This grow consisted of about 400 plants (over 200 Blueberry phenos and over 100 Flo). Out of these there ended up being over 160 Blueberry and over 70 Flo females and about 60 males that made the initial cut. Copies of each of these were cloned and meticulously maintained by the crew. This actually turned out to be a slight overkill, but a testimony to the absolute dedication of the crew.

The Crew

Mighty-G is a green-thumbed master gardener whose success with cannabis is phenomenal. Mr. G was able to provide and maintain a near-perfect growing environment for a lengthy period of time as the plants were kept in an extended vegetive state to insure 100% clone success. The plants were absolutely beautiful. Kermit was in charge of clone reproduction and maintenance. Kermit has been a respected part of the local cannabis community for many years. Chimera appeared online a few years ago and has proven himself to be an intelligent and dedicated soul, along with being a focused horticulturist with excellent credentials in the field of genetics. I first learned of Chimera online where he posted to a few message boards that I occasionally lurk and I appreciated the information he shared. The Cannabis Cowboy also added his expertise, especially considering the collection, purification and pressing of the dry-sieved resin.

I just want to give a big “shout out” and a huge thank you to all of the crew for their very successful efforts on this project. Y

As to the Afghan, I remember he stated it was more of a Kush type....

Hey Gobshite!,

My team won today!! That's why I'm still up. I remember that story about Red. It was just real strange the way he was talking about that, almost like he really was not involved. I always hate it when I'm reminded of the times I was reminded that there was a man behind the curtain in The Wizard of Oz.

Gotta Sleep This Off Good niGh....

Of seeds, presented without doubts
Makes me want to shout

I am just ready to germ g13 labs blueberry gum looks tastey blueberry x bubblegum. I am running next generations early blueberry.I just received a cut of the blues been smoking it for years but just got a cut a few weeks back. Should be a fruity crimbo lol

Thanks for the info gobshite.

I think DJ calls sweet indicas 'Kush' and accrid ones 'Afghan', based on his writings.

The Dabney Blue would be a Kush type but is also an Afghan as that where it hails from.

Nothing is that easy to understand at face value with DJ but that doesn't mean there is anything dodgy, the man has managed to avoid getting bust for decades which shows that his way of being undercover and only giving out snippets of info via articles has worked. Now he can be more public I'm sure more info will fall into place.

Hello Useless,
