old mother sativa?

Hi All

well I am also originally from down under and cut my teeth with Mullumbimby madness...one version from my crew in Main Arm...we worked on it for years spending the joy from late 70s to mid 80s...so I am familiar with and do have seed stock of it. I would compare it to Nevils Haze if I was asked to do so...

Any photos? Also we do not get it going hermie ever so that must have been unselected seed or selfing problems. However there are a few version of the same name. I believe Wally Duck has some good versions still and is a good bloke...

All the best Sb

Shanti, would the seed stock you have of MulMadness be something you would consider working on again, down the road?

seems that could be something cool to add to the sativa library ;)

hey all,hey shanti, thanks for the intrest, yeah she is intresting for sure,i have seen many versions going around, the one wallyduck has i have seen growing, think he got the stock from mullum maddman,i talked to him and mm a fair bit back in the overgrow/cannabis world days, and mm says and from what i,ve seen, his version is difrent from pure old mother,he calls it mullumbimby maddness, and i have shown him pictures and he also knows the source i got some of my stock from and it,s definatly not the same!
regarding the hermies, yes you are right! the guy i got my stock from done alot of open pollinating with his plants in the earlier days,as he just wanted more seed for next years crop? so herms do pop up!
i have other stock of the same strain from diffrent sources, and crosses of it as well as my own crosses, and they all seem to perform well, especially the shit cross,i,ll dig some pictures up,amazing plants, the shit really compliments the old mother and adds flavour and potentcy!
regarding potency? i have tried many diffrent growers o.m.s bud,and have experianced many diffrent levels of potency, alot being of very low qaulity.
so yeah i can understand what you saying about if you "had to" compare it,nevs would be simular,i was only actually reffering to plant structure,o.m.s does not posses the potency of nevs, that,s for sure, but i have to say the hybrids it parents are extremly potent, and crossing with a pure strain or i.b.l,it produces very uniform and true f1,s!
i saw one grown from my stock last season(o.m.s x shit)it ws a truely amazing!
it grew to about 1.8m tall, and around 3 metres wide, and produced bud simular to the shit structure, the smoke was amazing, and the flavour coming from the blend of the two was great, really added some flavour and kick to the o.m.s!
i was around in the cannabis world days when you had a limited realese of shit/haze,seems to produce a simular plant, maybe an old mother cross shit might be in the works for mns one day???!!
anyway mate, ill work ou this computer thingy and get some pitures up,thanks again...sensient

old mother

hey all, here,s a few picks i dug up around the place, not all mine but gown from the same stock, will dig through some old drivers and get some more better pics.
also, just wanted to mention a few unique traits in old mother.
the branches and stem are almost white and look almost like bambo,it is definatly difrent from anything i,ve seen before, also, the plant sends out branches from underground, that is,you get aa main stem, then around 20cm away from the main sten two stems pop up on either side! i will find some pics to show you waht i mean, anyway, take care all...sensient

beautiful pix sensient! the old mother sativa's legend has carried over to the states here as well. a local medical dispensary here in california often sells high quality outdoor buds labeled as 'old mother sativa', and the flowers seem to encapsulate the best tastes of haze, swazis, colombians and any number of 'old school' flavors. the grower, who cultivates organically and grows outdoors or in a greenhouse, is a true master.

i'm currently growing a couple of seeds i found in the last buds i purchased. not the best picture, but here's the more impressive of the two at day 39 of flowering. what you can't really see is the shockingly red stem or the hues of pink & purple developing in the flowers. what you can see, even in the crappy photo, is the MASSIVE amount of glandular trichomes covering the entire plant.

pax!

hey sensient, thanks for the response. maybe we should start a club: 'the old mother lovers'! :D

i admit, my plant is likely not 'true' Old Mother Sativa. i'm not usually one to grow bagseeds, but having come from bud of OMS i couldn't resist temptation. i've wondered too if perhaps i've saved seeds of different buds from the same grower (i think i might have), as he also grows Super Silver Haze and other sativas.

the bright, distinct, *un-stressed* red stem is a weird characteristic, i agree. i've heard that the red stem is sometimes a trait of some strains of African cannabis, as well (my plant is the spitting image of RC Clarke's drawing of Malawi in 'Cannabis Botany')? i've had one other plant come through my garden with this red stem trait, actually: one lone phenotype from Sensi Seeds' 'Ed Rosenthal Super Bud.

i'll try to get some better pictures of my plant when i've got a moment. i received a message from a friend yesterday who is in Nimbin on business, wondering if i wanted him to pick up any souvenirs. i had one answer: Old Mother Sativa seeds!

BUMP! This thread got lost, buried. I'd like to hear some more about the MM and OMS.

Edit: Found a thread on it. Sorry! False alarm.
