Are SSH, Jack Herer and Diesel the same thing?

when did you get the seeds for this one? how long did you give it to flower?
my last version didnt have any color to it like yours, yours looks amazing
i have 6 females from seeds, 3 didnt stretch as much and seem to be ready at 67-70, 70 being 2 days from now. the other 3 have at least another week in them, maybe 2.
it is one of those 3 that have some purple to the leaf, not much, but i was surprised, didnt know or expect any color like that.

what are you feeding those, im giving mine earth juice, mine dont seem nearly as vibrant.

Thank you very much for the compliments, much appreciated. Just another testament to the beauty of the plant we all love.

77 days to finish. Lucas in coco with Sucanat and a 21 day flush. Nighttime temps got below 60 a few times on that grow, too. Doesn't usually color up that deeply, but it always gets some reds/magentas in the flush.

I obtained it as a cutting from CMC in San Francisco under the name "Super Jack". I did some digging on the boards and was told that it was one of several keepers from a single pack of 10 original Jack Herer seeds. Two of her sisters were circulated as Psycho Jack and Bubble Jack, with the Super Jack as the 'connoisseur' selection. At least that's how it was told to me.

Except for the coloration, it's nearly a dead ringer for the Silver Pearl x Haze from to '90 Seedbank catalog. Same parents, save for the EP.

Looks very diesel'y. The red hues are definitely a trait of the sour D. One of the only plants I have seen the fan leaves turn a crimson red during the final stages of flowering.

Purple Thai went very red last year.

Anyone got a photo of the ECSD cut in question?

Yup, this is the original ECSD, pretty sativa, takes 85-90 days. This is the one people complain has a short duratio to the high but tastes amazing. Well, it does have a short lived high if you chop it at 75 like many do but it needs 85-90 to be just right. This is the one Rez used to make his sd ibl.

That's not the original Sour Diesel, too indica. Might be the Original Diesel/Headband/Daywrecker.
I've posted the photo and info at 2 other trusted sites and Original Diesel (or pheno thereof) appears to be the consensus opinion according to eye tests. Thanks.

I really like the vision/energy here. Time to research and decide on a couple of strains. I've grown Critical Haze- beautiful looking plant, I love the leaf structure, but I didn't do it justice 1st time out- bad me. I'm a month away from being able to put out some sativa. Have always wanted to grow Shit, too- hands down my favorite name in the Canna Kingdom. Candy store time. ;)

I forgot to say, regardless of what diesel variant you have, you grew it nicely and all diesels are good so enjoy!

I don't have time to read all this and everything else I wanna read sooooo, did the original question ever get answered? I went through the first few pages with no definite answer to the question posed in the first post.

Reason I wanna know is because I've got a bunch of C99 crosses which are believed to be predominately Jack Herer. I'm also interested in obtaining SSH and MHz, as well as others, from MNS to add to my collection.

A simple yes/no answer would be just fine for me or a finger pointing to the information would be better.

Thanks for the help. ;)

there was a nl5 haze cut that went around, named diesel. that was the original, and maybe thats all nevil was referring to. still unsure if nycd or ecsd has anything to do with it, most people say no.

I feel the need to give my 2c on the SSH and Jack Herer thing. Nevil bred SSH, the lineage and selections have been detailed many times.

Jack Herer was introduced by Sensi Seeds as their entry to the HTCC in 1995, I think this was just at the end of Nevil's time working as breeder for Sensi, I think it is Nev's work, it is certainly made from Nev's genes. It is similar to SSH but has a slightly different palette of flavours, tends to be spicier than SSH, I like them both a lot, they are both great breeds.

In order to get a handle on what Nev is saying about SSH, Jack and Diesel being the same cuts you need some insight into how the companies that enter the HTCC do things. They just buy in the best batch of weed they can find in that calendar year and enter that in the cup under whatever name they want then they sell seeds with the same name. Usually there is little or no relation between the buds that were entered into the cup and the seeds sold with the same name. Let me outline two recent examples of this:

Couple of cups ago GHS entered a batch of SSH they purchased from a broker in the Dam and grown by some guys in the south of Holland, it was an excellent exemplar of SSH, a 9 week pheno that leaned to the NL parent. Shanti posted about this at the time on icmag. The SSH they entered in the cup is a pheno from Mr Nice Seeds, it has been around for years in Holland, those guys in the south have been growing it for years. However, the seeds that GHS were selling at that time were completely different to Mr Nice's original SSH so this is a clear example of the buds entered in a cup under a certain name bearing little or no relation to the seeds sold under that same name.

Secondly, the year after the GHS SSH example above, Barney's won a cup with a batch of C5 which is an old cutting from Nevil's garden and is a NL5 x Haze. They called it Red Dragon and Derry the owner of Barney's got up on stage to receive his cup and gave an impassioned speech about having bred Red Dragon in the jungles of South America from new landraces sativas from places like Laos. That was 100% bullshit, the Red Dragon buds were C5, that is a known fact among those in the know in the Dam, I won't name names but I have this direct from the horse's mouth. The seeds that Barney's sell as Red Dragon could contain C5, Barney's bought in batches of seeds bred by a guy who goes by the online names Zeno and Freakje, he made several matings using the G13 x Haze male from Soma and the best Haze cuttings available - A5, C5, Mexican Haze, HPHaze etc. Perhaps Red Dargon seed from Barney's is C5 x G13Haze, Zeno/Freakje definitely did that cross. The Dampkring Hazes such as Ocean's Twelve Haze are also bred by Zeno/Freakje, again, they bought the seed from him.

The moral of the story is that since the ban on seed production in Holland in 1998 it has become a totally fraudulent and bullshit world of fakery, lies and double-dealing, companies like GHS and Barney's pull every trick they can think of which makes it hard for the layperson to know what is what. Luckily I have multiple contacts in that world and have an insight into a lot of what goes on as a result. I'm not afraid to speak out and tell what I know as I won't be going back to the Dam for a very long time, in fact, I'm not able to for legal reasons! lol Besides, what is the worst that could happen? Derry calling me names or Arjan having me thrown out of his coffeeshop? I rarely visited their shops anyways so I have nothing to lose by speaking out.

BUMP

I'm pretty sure whatever bag of buds Roger picked the seed(s) he gave to Soma from wasn't A5. It's much more likely to have been from a bag of the original Diesel AKA Headband AKA Daywrecker. If you grow NYCD it's a very indica leaning strain.

This could be very well a fact. I grew it years ago, great variety, actually really grapefruity and off the charts terps if grown any like Soma suggests (organic and finish on Guano) and is definitely giving a headstone. Cerebral effect plus head in the clouds with some effect on the body. Id say its kinda well rounded but if used in excess can wreck a day in the best possible way...
Actually i didnt know about the father until i came here to learn it was the Afgh.Hawaiian male from @shantibaba - i like the outcome. But am looking for something more stimulating, get stuff done type of high.

Some of the fems I grew of SD had hints of grapefruit after a long cure. I don't much care for it.

Mine were reeking - not a hint, straight reeking. You grew the ones from Soma? Im not advertising here, im just 100% on what ive experienced. And the Daywrecker Diesel bagseed x Shantis Afghani Hawaiian male theory sounds definitely as close to the truth as ive been with this

Still good stuff. How did you grow yours? Ive gone from seeds, shouldve been regulars but it only gave me females. All good tho.

Just my opinion based on experience with both and what I’ve read and a common sense conclusions(?)

I would say that they both have same backgrounds in that they have same ingredients of NL, Skunk or Super Skunk and Haze. But maybe or maybe not from same parents or related parents. In my grows from 20 years ago or so, both were awesome. The JH were from Sensi and mine leaned more to a Haze/Sativa dominant type. Side note: for some reason any seeds that I got from Sensi did not germinate 100 % or after germination keeled over. Didn’t matter what variety. I did however have a couple very potent babies of other varieties, e.g. Mr. Nice plant. The SSH also had Haze/Sativas but more seemed to be a combo of both traits. Germination was always 100%. i have been a NICE 100% seed guy since back then. Why even take a chance? Total trust and results with Scott and family…Just my opinion fellas. I am not familiar with the others mentioned and really never cared to try them. Was extremely happy with SSH, Shark and NH. By the way, with the Shark I did a two week total darkness that Scott had mentioned somewhere and the results were incredible. Frosted like I’ve never seen and incredible taste and potency. i believe he said it would work with any that had the Widow in its makeup.

@BrotherBoris id love to hear more about the 2wks of darkness!
Bought some Sensi and White label stuff visiting Rotterdam few yrs ago and i dont know how the packaging was when you bought those but i thought besides it looks and feels kinda nice its destined to fail as a packaging for seeds. Theyre really 100% on the souvenir level...besides the transparent plastic dome its all cardboard, even perforated at the back where youre supposed to open it. Destined to attract moisture and pathogens. Complete fail as a design. Seen so many much better options when it comes to packages...Mandala, World of Seeds with glass vials...CSI and Karma with sealed plastic, even the most basic dimebag would do better...even the old design KC Brains paper bags do better, at least not perforated...im not sure of the germination rate yet, theyre fridged up but he pumped out a more modern packaging nowadays and with those 100% germination. It think if the quality of the seed itself aint the issue it sure is the packaging. Im mean come on its ridiculous doing this at a 'professional' - or lets say financially successful level and having an issue like this...its like a car manufacturer selling cars with flat tires and windows that won't close properly...
I may pop some of the Sensi Garlic Bud when run some MNS stuff side by side. Maybe the G13xSkunk?
